@marc_tsundoku @DeepDishEnjoyer The 2.4% estimate is already trying to capture the broad category you have in mind.

@the_transit_guy The average American is a bigot and derives utility from harming their outgroups, even at the cost of harming themselves.

@aivilope @LinkofSunshine I have no love for M$, but if you’ve ever been involved in a software migration, you’ll know that there are some users for whom no amount of time, no number of written notices, and no degree of accommodation could ever be enough. Exhibit A: Python 2 to 3.

@tracewoodgrains Imagine what kind of absolute filth the people who said yes are. Having these people running the country makes me feel like I have ants crawling all over me. It’s just disgusting and pathetic.

@micah_erfan Vermeule is a sad man. And sad he should be, but he could still find a bit of redemption if he felt like it.

@quickdeletion @jmhorp Famously, Congress authorized $50,000 in aid to Venezuela after the Caracas earthquake of 1812 (something like $1 million in today’s dollars). We’ve had centuries for the constitutionality of foreign aid to be debated.

@CartoonsHateHer My software dev friends who made the most money doing it, I’ve actually never seen a single line of code that they wrote. Open-source work is loser-coded (pun unintended; also, I’m obv speaking as a loser)

@anti_minotaur Another key essay for me at that time was “I Can Tolerate Anything Except the Outgroup” (fall 2014). I seldom read Alexander these days but will always be grateful to him for that.

@shahanSean Also important to ask how indirect costs are negotiated in relation to direct costs. I like many others find the NIH system somewhat confusing, compared to e.g. NSF.
