There is actually research on this phenomenon. Coffee has been proven to raise testerone and reduce depression. Quite literally one of the easiest ways to help yourself. I was not very active before I had coffee, to say the least.

I think one of the concepts in lifting. I've had to teach over and over again is that you make exercising a habit, heavy lifting a habit. For the main benefits but also over time, you get used to the intensity that your new status quo for a workout is not 3 but 6 or 7 in effort.

I recall a high jump athlete who naturally grew by taking advantage of the cartilage in the spine and joints. By using resistance bands strapped to his bed, he grew about 6 inches. I wouldn't say it's healthy but I'd take that over permanently weakened bones.
