What's up with undergrads missing class constantly due to sickness? I've heard this is a thing at multiple institutions. My class has been repeatedly decimated.
@lacunalingua_3
Interesting side note: the original meaning of "pulling yourself up your bootstraps" was to describe an impossible task, since it's literally impossible to do so.
I'm Danish. I grew up on the REAL version of The Little Mermaid. Having her portrayed by a Black actress doesn't impact the legacy of Hans Christian Anderson.
What does, is having an American company rewrite the story to suit their imperialist values.
Go complain about that.
This one got a lot of attention, so I'm just going to point out that the original tweet is proof that this Ivy League bullshit (and capitalism in general) creates opportunities for people who are connected, not for people who are qualified.

As someone from the Toronto area who’s also old enough to remember those guys, one of the things that pisses me off about Drake is how he acts like he created the Toronto hip hop scene, and shows no respect for those that laid the groundwork that he’s standing on.
@ireallyhateyou
It's actually kinda hilarious how Zionists pivot from admitting that they're colonizers, to denying it, depending on the crowd they're speaking to.
Let me make the message clearer. The sale of stolen land is unconscionably evil.
Any faith based organization that partakes in this kind of act should have its religious status immediately revoked by the government.
Clearly the message has not sunk in yet so let me repeat. Demonstrating outside of Jewish institutions to protest against Israeli actions is antisemitism pure and simple. It should not be happening in Thornhill or anywhere else in Canada.

If Indigenous people can’t live in a society made by white folk, then I guess we should all leave and give them their land back.

I get what you're trying to say, but the first stage of lovebombing is notably higher in intensity than a normal level of interest.

In reality, the pattern is having enough money to invest in so many things that you're more likely to get a few unicorns in there.
This list means nothing unless he also lists all the simultaneous investments he made that didn't go anywhere.
The term "unhoused neighbours" really sticks out to me here. In a good way. We've been brought up with negative connotations around the word "homeless," and this new term is really humanizing.
I gotta remember to use this term myself.
Every winter we hear about our unhoused neighbours freezing to death on our streets. Homelessness is a policy choice, but so is ending it. We can make this winter different.
@David_Moscrop
While I normally avoid making comparisons between Canadian and American politics, he’s kinda like Trump in that sense. He only cares about his own image/popularity, and doesn’t care if anyone else gets hurt in the process.
@NobleQAli
The Romans winning the Second Punic War.
A lot of the worst things about western civilization, including colonialism, can be traced back to the Romans, so if they hadn’t achieved supremacy over the Mediterranean, the last 2000 years would have been very different.
@shift_in2_turbo
Ok, I think I got it.
In the case of housing, owning your own home is personal property, but landlords renting a house out is private property (and bullshit).
@hypervisible
Instead of using all this proctoring software to replicate the classroom environment of exam taking, maybe schools should take this as an opportunity to change. A primary function of schooling is to prepare you for work. No one at your job is looking over your shoulder to /1
Terrifying: 555 doctors from U of Toronto wrote a letter declaring their right to work openly as Zionists. As McGill U Prof Gil Troy wrote in his White supremacist letter, "These [doctors] had the Zionist impulse to defend Western civilization."

Most of the people being “neutral” are white people. We’re used to being the victors. For us to see the dangers of Israeli dominance in the Middle East requires true empathy, which our society does everything possible to suppress.

I'm not surprised at the racism and fascism. I am, however, surprised by the brazenness of it. Canadian racism usually hides under a layer of dog whistles just thin enough for pitiful attempts at plausible deniability by those responsible for it.
I put on a trusty N95 mask before I even leave my apartment. I won’t put others at risk. I won’t treat my own infection as inevitable. I will continue to put human life before convenience.
Hi. I’m Ryan. I live in Canada and I refuse to accept that infections and reinfections are inevitable - I will continue to do my utmost to break chains of transmission. What about you?

Planning. It's easy to learn the languages, the frameworks, the patterns, and the protocols. How to plan out your app though, that's something that isn't taught, so it's up to you to learn on your own.

0.45% is not the same thing as 80%. In fact, that's a normal day on the stock market.

call for a ceasefire last week?
Shouldn't you apologize and say that she was right, instead of just copying her statement?
As a software developer, I can’t stress this enough.
Are there problems with the government’s new bill? Sure.
Does this justify Zuck throwing a mantrum over it, and blocking news rather than paying journalists their due? No.

I once showed up to work to find that a coworker's daughter had used it on the weekend and forgot to log out of Facebook. It wasn't that hard to log out without looking through her stuff.
Imagine telling someone who can barely afford to live that they should spend thousands of dollars a year on school.
Compassion and logic are seriously underrated.
It's kinda funny. A lot of Trudeau's tenure has been focused on immortalizing him in Canadian Liberal memory, similar to how his father did.
Yet, the one thing that could put his name in the history books forever, is the one thing that he's been avoiding.
Just imagine how much more fondly
@JustinTrudeau
's legacy would be remembered if he actually followed through with this and ended our archaic voting system.
My grandfather lived under the occupation. Nazis didn't just kill members of the resistance, they killed their families.
He still signed up to fight the Nazis, while Freeland's grandfather joined them.
That's not complicated. It's very simple.
@YouCaughtScott
@doaas
I think it's far more complicated than folks like you would like to pretend, and I trust Paula Simons's analysis implicitly here, given her proximity to the Ukranian community and the unique issues it faced during the war.
Kinda curious, does anyone else refuse to shop on Labour Day and other holidays, because they think that it’s important for retail workers to get their days off?

Another interesting factoid about Israel, is that women in the IDF are referred to as "mattresses."
Anytime someone wants to pretend that Israel is a progressive country, I'm gonna remind them of that.
Caryma's going so far now to say that her cameraman was being harassed "with flags and umbrellas."
I don't think it's a coincidence that the phrasing coincides with how the alt-right complains about rainbows making them feel unwelcome.
@wickdchiq
Antiblackness aside, I don't think the pro-Israel lobby realizes that the Islamophobia that they're encouraging is packaged with the same anti-Semitism that they accuse their opponents of having.
This is important. Far too often, discussions about poverty ignore the exhaustion, lethargy, and chronic stress caused by living in poverty.
You can't "work harder" to get out of poverty, because you're already working harder than everyone else, just to survive.
@mikelondoncan
Even though we've never met, I'm gonna miss you when you're gone. I wish you a smooth journey to the other side, and all the best in the next life.
