As the wealth gap grows, more people become millionaires. That means more people have the option to opt out of paying tax by moving abroad. That means ordinary people must pay MORE tax to make up the difference. Something NEEDS to be done to tax the rich even when they emigrate!.
A tiny 2% wealth tax, on 20k people would raise £24 billion per year to spend on the things that urgently need fixing in our country. We need some tax justice - the more money you have the less tax you pay and vice versa - that’s absurd.

Just dropped my kids at nursery. Car had reverse parked with the tailpipe 4ft from the front door the kids are waiting. Guy was out of his car handing his child over. Kindly asked if he'd could turn his engine off while outside the nursery, his response:. "Is it doing any harm?".

Many will say this was a tragic accident that couldn't be avoided. Assuming this was her first known seizure I bear her no ill will, but it COULD have been preventable with vehicle size restrictions. There is no need for 3-tonne personal vehicles.

@read_this_if So if I pull out into another lane and cut you up as a driver, you're not going to have a problem?. Obstructions in bike lanes are just that!. They negate their purpose, delaying people & putting those who hadn't planned on sharing space with cars at greater risk.

This is a great example of why people don't cycle in cycle lanes. In this one clip there are at least SEVEN places where a cycle-lane user would need to give way, compared to just ONE for the road (the mini-roundabout).

Given the relative mass of a bicycle & rider compared to a car, & that cyclists are rarely capable of reaching speeds 50% higher than the 20mph limit you're advocating, why do you care?. If you're limiting a 100kg cyclist to 20mph, a 2000kg car should be limited to. 4.4mph.

Nearly 2 years since the Highway Code change. It's shocking how many pedestrians and drivers don't know the side-road rule. Today I stepped out and, seeing me do it, a car then ACCELERATED at me!. When I explained that pedestrians had priority:. "It's a FUCKING road, mate!"

It's literally a cul-de-sac. There's basically zero traffic. It's parallel to a busy main road making this a commonly preferred pedestrian route. So why, OH WHY, would you not just park on the ROAD!!!. 🤷♂️

Someone in my company was recently run over by a driver while he walked across a zebra crossing, such that his body impacted & cracked the car's windscreen. He's now in physiotherapy. The driver didn't stop, though later reported themselves to the Police. Penalty? A warning. 🤦♂️

All we know is that speed limits DEFINITELY work for cars. I don't think I've EVER seen cars excessively breaking the speed limit. ESPECIALLY 20mph zones. Drivers take those VERY seriously. 😐.
A cyclist who fatally hit an 81 year old woman at 29mph in a 20mph zone successfully defended himself because "speed limits don't apply to cyclists in the same way as they do to motorists". Is this justified?

Following an encounter today with a guy who couldn't understand how pedestrians should have priority at sideroads I was inspired to draw a sketch of how the inverse of his world would look. No longer would pedestrian spaces form an archipelago cut off by the sea of roads.

@Boenau I'm willing to bet car culture is even more heavily subsidised. In the UK, fuel/vehicle related tax comes to 35bn. The economic cost of just road traffic collisions is £36bn. This doesn't account for road maintenance, new road construction or the impacts of pollution.
