If Obama tries to run again should anyone try to force him off the ballot or should Americans be allowed to vote for him for a third term regardless of what the Constitution says
I really don’t want Trump to be president again, but I’m also not thrilled with him being forced off the ballot. I will defer to the Supreme Court if they make that unlikely decision, but in general i think Americans should be allowed to elect Danish 13 year olds if they want
@CartoonsHateHer
You joke, but the *actual* problem with fault divorce is that you have to *prove* fault and not just “allege” it. No divorce unless you can go prove your husband is a drunk abuser.
@CartoonsHateHer
it's because America doesn't do nobility. You can have a net worth in the eight figures but since nobody calls you an earl you can pretend you're just upper middle class.
@edsbs
Look pretty much everybody in Memphis at the time knew that the Tuohys had a reputation and that reputation was not consistent with taking in a Black teenager for entirely altruistic reasons.
@joshtpm
have been hearing for months that Democrats really want someone other than Biden to run and then when presented with the actual opportunity to vote for someone other than Biden they… wrote in Biden
NEW
@PuckNews
: The Age of Biden: Many in WH press corps have spent the last couple years noticeably avoiding the topic of the president’s agility and acuity because it felt indelicate or irrelevant. Now, the Hur report has stirred some soul-searching.
The leftists threatening to not vote for Biden are fundamentally different from the ones who didn't vote for Hillary in 2016, most of whom just thought they were casting a throwaway protest vote that wouldn't matter. Now they're trying to do it on purpose.
@DanaHoule
It’s pretty clear by now that the campaign to dump Biden (ostensibly over Gaza) is mostly having the effect of pissing off normie Democrats and making them view the left as not their friends.
it's funny how the race is close while Biden's support is allegedly collapsing with every Democratic voter group and the only plausible explanation is that Biden is killing it with cishet white men
one reason why leftists constantly make excuses for Trump voters is because their other option is to ally with their true enemy, middle class liberals.
@worsematt
The average in-office employee spends a good portion of their day sitting there pretending to work or doing a lot of make-work and WFH caused them to cut the bullshit.
Yes. In reality, Biden's age doesn't actually matter, because if he dies in office the VP takes over. "I'm worried about Biden's mental capacity" is code for "I don't want Kamala Harris to be President."
David Ignatius' ramblefuckery is precisely what the media did to Hillary, and now they are trying to do it to President Biden and VP Harris. This "is he too old" narrative is really about VP Harris because they hate having a Black woman next in line.
If you're in the 30-49 age range, what constitutes "left-wing" in American political context is basically unrecognizable. In 2004, "left wing" meant, like, you thought gays should be allowed to get married.
Notably, Brookings has Biden holding steady with 18-29 year olds from 2020, but losing tons of support with 30-49, which is the opposite of the narrative regarding who Biden is losing
What's hurting Biden isn't Zoomers and Gaza, it's the continuing rightward shift of Millennials
A rational person would understand that if Biden and Trump are the same on abortion, as terrible as that would be, Biden’s still better on pretty much everything else. You’re not in any meaningful sense a “progressive” if you’re drawing red lines in this manner.
I wonder if there’s a red line liberals would understand with Biden. Like hypothetically if he came out in support of a national abortion ban, would they understand someone saying they’re sitting out the election then? Or would it be “well Trump’s enforcement would be worse, so”
This is just an admission that you don't view elections as a choice between alternatives, you view them as an opportunity to score clout on Twitter by sitting out if you think both sides are wrong on your pet issue.
@worsematt
yeah like there's a reason why businesses that do this *specifically pick Texas* as opposed to one of a bunch of other red states, and they almost always just move the company there on paper as opposed to moving their workforce there.
@opinonhaver
As much as we talk about how much Republicans hate various Democratic-voting groups, it’s also true that they have a special level of hate for college-educated urban normie libs because, basically, they’re mad you aren’t a conservative.
The thing about cell phones being allowed in classrooms is that it's one of those things that just "happened." They were banned when I was in school and then schools basically just got tired of enforcement. There was never a GOOD reason to allow them, it just kind of happened.
I get this is just one study, but banning phones in school (or at least in class) seems like such a no brainer, the burden of proof should be on the side that wants to allow them.
@CartoonsHateHer
It's so funny that stories like this exist and yet *public schools* where somebody will teach your kids to read and write for free are what people beat up on.
It sure feels like last night shifted a lot of The Discourse about the left-wing youth protests. The people who support it are much more on the defensive.
@CentristMadness
The polls are bogus but yeah you're right. The worst political phenomenon of this era is that "everyone sucks, everyone is corrupt" has been universally accepted by the politically disengaged. That keeps Rs in the running no matter what
@antifamanchin
What will actually happen, of course, is that liberals will be organizing Women’s March 2.0 while leftists will be whining about how mean liberals are to them over their Cornel West vote.
If people were “struggling” with higher grocery bills, you would see them cut back, buy cheaper grocery items. What you’re actually seeing is people buying more expensive groceries and then complaining about it.
YES, actually, people do appear to be consuming more expensive food, maybe by eating out more or buying better groceries, because THE ECONOMY IS GOOD AS A RESULT OF PROGRESSIVE FISCAL POLICY and thus THEY HAVE MORE DISPOSABLE INCOME
I am *begging* the so-called Pro-Palestine movement to understand that this is an old mafia trick called a protection racket. What about the 80-90% of the party that is absolutely sick and tired of their bullshit? Why do you get your way?
@InlandCaGuy
I mean, either way the logic is pretty dumb, if you think he did an insurrection then he's disqualified under the 14th Amendment and I don't know why we would be arguing about "but muh process" unless you'd be cool with Obama running for a third term too
@torriangray
It’s so weird how in the 20 years or so that I’ve been following politics conservatives have flipped from being the perceived normies to the weirdos, like how did that even happen, I still don’t get it
Will is basically correct and it's weird how defensive young people who primarily get the "news" from TikTok, random YouTubers and Twitch streamers are about it. It's almost like... they KNOW the information they're getting is bullshit and they don't care.
If brutal war crimes by Israel automatically produced this kind of reaction, there wouldn’t be an age gradient. Something is causing the war to affect younger people differently. I think it’s reasonable to suspect it’s because younger people have a different information diet.
@BeijingPalmer
just wild how Western leftists completely sanewash them and the Houthis themselves are like “no, we’re exactly as terrible as the Western media says we are”
@lyndonbajohnson
The extremely underappreciated part of the backlash to Civil Rights was white Southerners backing away from funding their town's basic amenities, like public pools and parks, because they didn't want to have to share them with Black people.
@ImNotOwned
just so many people doing verbal gymnastics to avoid saying out loud that what they're really mad about is low-income service workers having some bargaining power.
@revhowardarson
at core, QAnon and the “groomer” accusations are a way to pretend that CSA is done by *those people* as opposed to places that hit much closer to home
@mattyglesias
What I don't "understand" is that they're clearly telegraphing that they intend to cost Biden the election, but come 2025 if Trump is in office they'll cry about liberals blaming them for Biden losing the election *when they are telling us they want to be blamed for it.*
