Congrats to Marlene & Verena for winning this year’s Art of Science - moving image category!! I am lucky to have played a small part in the production of these beautiful images. Still in awe of the single cell detail you can see with this workflow. I do miss imaging 💛🔬🧠
These vibrant hues show nerve bundles connecting distant brain regions and dopamine-producing nerve cells. @DrVerenaW and @marlenefschmidt are studying these cells to improve targeted therapies for Parkinson’s disease. Learn more in #ArtOfScience:

Ultimately for me, it came to this comparison. Leaving the lab and the academic ‘track’ I had planned for myself - was so so so so hard. But the alternative was harder.
Leaving academia is hard, but sacrificing your mental health for an academic career is significantly harder.

eMentoring is particularly suitable for PhD students - as it removes the need for travel time. Just 1hour commitment per week for 10 weeks and you could become a role model for a regional student who isn't quite sure how they fit into the world of tertiary STEM education.

Tahnee is starting a new role with In2Science, a not-for-profit that places university students in classrooms so that high school students can engage with STEM more #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science
