I’ve never understood this kōrero, Māori have always been Polynesian so how exactly would we take up too much space in said “Polynesian spaces”? (Just a genuine pātai) The kōrero I grew up bein taught by my kau matua was that we come from the same waka just Māori got off last,
I would tread lightly when speaking on Māori taking up too much space in Polynesian spaces. I think it’s a much more nuanced conversation especially if referring to the Polynesians in NZ bc can they really take up too much space on their own land?
