My grandma passed in 2008. Today we moved her so she could be buried again with my papa’s body. I had to help “wash” her and so I sat with my elderly aunty and watched the whole process and I just wanted to note it down.

Bones will stay wet for a long time. So the way she did it, was by massaging her bones and the remnant pieces of skin with fagu’u samoa to “fa’aaulelei” her. As she was massaging, she said the fagu’u smelt so lovely and strong and it meant my nana was loving it.
