You're a small, scrappy, tech team working on a large and very complicated code base.
The CTO hasn't implemented git yet. Straight ftp to prod.
You suggest git.
CTO says git is a sign of skill issues.
What do you do?
Ok hear me out...
A completely browser based video game. Always free. Light multi-player.
* Zig
* HTMX
* WebAssembly
* Pure DOM
Why? To learn by doing crazy things.
I think it's doable.
@htmx_org
better be ready for the massive attention this is clearly going to get.
@ThePrimeagen
Day 777 of
@ThePrimeagen
banning me on twitch for mistaking one of my messages, taking himself to HR after he realized he made a mistake and still not unbanning me.
Almost died when my mother refused a blood transfusion I needed. she once almost beat me to death for a small violation of
#JehovahsWitnesses
rules. I've lost my friends and family, as has my wife and my 1 yr old daughter.
@LeahRemini
@cedarsjwsurvey
I've been pretty quiet on a lot of personal opinions.
Hey, uh, Unreal Engine, how about a nice big bowl of "fuck you"? Fresh, from me to you.
I know these are *guidelines* but this is the stupidest shit I've ever seen "suggested" to me in terms of code I should write.
Ever.
Remember that one time
@ThePrimeagen
accidentally banned me for like 2 years straight and then made me write a poem and stuff to get unbanned and then I dropped 250 subs the day he unbanned me?
My wallet does.
Could use money now, plz send work
I just live streamed for 2 hours about Harpoon (thx
@ThePrimeagen
), NeoVim, Zig, WebAssembly and more! My viewers increased by 3x!!!
i went from 0 viewers to 3, but mostly hung around 0
IM COMING FOR YOU
@t3dotgg
Also,
@teej_dv
you'd have been proud of me for using kickstart
@cmgriffing
You're not the only person this has happened to lately. I've heard from a few others.
I've been saying this a lot: Tech hiring is broken and needs to change.
💖 I'm sponsoring bigskysoftware because… influencer money takes you to the moon babay.
@ThePrimeagen
@htmx_org
Kidding it's because htmx is awesome and deserves it.
I have been using HTMX and Hyperscript on a production site the past week. I've accomplished more with the front-end in one week than I have in the last few months combined.
@htmx_org
@wtravishubbard
In my opinion, the best way to learn a massive amount of programming concepts, solve interesting problems, with huge overlap to real life problems. I've been building my own game with my viewers. It's been eye opening. Also, a lot of fun.
Here is my interview with Carson Gross /
@htmx_org
(same thing) yesterday. Please keep in mind I was streaming for 19 hours at this point and I had no sleep yet and I still think we knocked it out of the park.
A
#jw
family friend msgd me asking how I was doing, was sorry for all I was going thu, said "Brotherhood is important". I rspnd "Can I ask what you think I'm going through?" Then I was blocked. If you can't talk to xplain urself then nothing u "encourage" me todo has value.
#exjw
@Nateemerson
It doesn't. You get breaks, though. Here's the deal: kids are a good way to find out what you, as a parent and general human being, are made of. You already know this to be true. You already have done things you didn't think you were capable of. Lean into it.
@ThePrimeagen
My dad, who I miss and wish was still alive, left me some solid advice. If you're ever in trouble with the wife, just say: "I have no opinion and it's all my fault"
It's saved me many times.
Just a reminder that tomorrow, 7pm PST,
@htmx_org
is coming on my stream and we're gonna chat.
I will do my best to make all of you laugh, learn a thing or two and have a good time.
72 hour stream. I want the Software & Game Development category to blow up. I'm putting myself out there.
72 hours of game development on my Zig/WASM/HTML game.
... to support the rest of this great community.
I think I'm crazy because I'm about to implement HTMX web components such that the components are usable with Laravel via server side rendering and can also use a REST API and you can also mix and match components from any other framework and... it will all just work.
I'm turning 40 in a few days and here are some life lessons you can have for free:
* Being a dad is better than any career
* The things I know less about at this age are greater than the things I know more about
* Online personalities have *almost* no real answers for you
I did a 72 hour stream for the dev community because Twitch isn't doing enough for the category.
12 hours since the stream ended and nothings been done.
Engineers are still out in the cold.
I think it's time I go on another 72 hour stream Twitch strike starting tomorrow.
I took advantage of being fired for using HTMX (
@htmx_org
mentioned). I built some products even if they were never gonna sell.
It white pilled me.
The IT/coder/programming downward spiral can be fixed.
I got double white pilled meeting like minded people in the span of a few
@AdamSessler
I'm just a stranger on the internet and we know nothing about each other. But you have my thoughts and I hope everything goes as well as things can possibly go. For you and your family.
It's sad when you sacrifice, basically, your entire life to save yourself and your family from a cult and then you see a bunch of cults in politics, science and social movements.
You know you're in the big leagues when
@ThePrimeagen
randomly drops in on your stream, interacts just a little tiddly winkly bit, then lurks.
Boiz, it's over. I'm officially omega gigachad programmer now.
#confirmed
@htmx_org
We are so back that we're literally ripping people out of their timelines from 20 years ago and inserting them into our current timeline.
Is HTMX quantum mechanics?
Two things for today
(1) I didn't expect the response I got my htmx-offline project. Thank you everyone who re-xed it (especially
@htmx_org
/
@ThePrimeagen
and others)
I promise I'll improve it SOON!
(2) Shout out to
@MelkeyDev
who got sub bombed today. You earned it man!!!!!
I had my first interview ever.
@htmx_org
was the absolute best.
I think the interview was a smashing success.
I can't thank him enough for doing.
Thanks to a great chat and great mods too.
I'll post the video up tomorrow at some point.
19 hour stream and counting so far.
I'm a self taught developer. No high school degree. I slept on the streets and park benches while working for free on borrowed computers to get experience.
If a company is saying they're not hiring self taught devs anymore, I can understand why, but, like anything... nuance.
You all don't realize the genius of what
@htmx_org
did with htmx. He turned html into a functional programming language with oop sprinkled on top.
We will never be the same.
Shout out to
@wagslane
for letting me on backend banter to give some of my takes on a few topics. Thank you.
Already seeing people disagree with me on the comments. Which is awesome.
We raised $1,234.00 for
Thank you everyone who supported the stream but, more importantly, the kids.
Not to mention, we had some *really* solid cursed programming projects submitted. Thanks to everyone who submitted their work.
It's official. The first annual "Cursed Programming Charity Event" is on!!
We will be raising charity/donations for the BC Children's Hospital which you can find here:
Feb 9th is the cut off for project submissions.
Feb 12th is the 24hr stream.
72 hour non-stop game dev stream is complete.
I did it for everyone in this category:
We're under-represented and Twitch needs to get their act together with regards to discovery. So many talented people are left in the dust.
BIG NEWS: I'm back to neovim. Turns out it was my fish shell lagging neovim after installing asdf because I needed erlang/elixir (thanks
@ryanrwinchester
)
No more fish.
Special shoutout to
@teej_dv
for awesome kickstart and
@Shreyassanthu77
for helping me out the other day.
24 hour stream done. Got a whole boatload of things done. Including making htmx respect offline mode
@htmx_org
Thank you to everyone in my chat who participated and to all the folks who helped me get a bunch of code out the door and to all the raiders and just to everyone.
Birthday resolution: try to individually thank people who are supportive when they absolutely, definitely, don't have to do a damn thing. This includes anyone who simply says some kind things to me or people around me.
@MelkeyDev
- u are 1st. Thank you brother.
Ok I guess it's official. 24 hour stream. Minimum. We're adding twitch interactivity to my ZIG/WASM video game.
Huge thanks to the community for helping me get it this far.
Non meme/troll post:
Being a dad is the best thing that's ever happened to me. My kid baked me a play dough pizza with all the ingredients I wanted.
*chefs kiss*
Better than any other feeling in the world.
Not doing react content no more. I have a lot to offer the dev community and re-reading/watching existing stuff (a) doesn't do the original stuff justice and (b) I want to speak from my own experiences.
I want to help inspire the tech industry to do better.
It starts with me.
@soychotic
As far as I'm concerned, these are the pre-requisites to trash talking the use of "synchronous" vs "asynchronous" terms in dev so this checks out.
Just so the whole entire world knows,
@sabine_s_
really enjoys it when I send X's during my streams. Also, just to make sure everyone really really knows,
@trshpuppy
is watching me on her projector right now.
Spiro reacts to Theo Reacts to Prime Reacts To Professor Reacting To Prime Reacting To FP
im sorry for audio and video and poor quality im just new im just learning but I really think I nailed this react
@ThePrimeagen
@t3dotgg
@teej_dv
@MelkeyDev
MicMine, a twitch viewer, tried out PHP/Laravel, even went above and beyond and tried HTMX, ended up saying "PHP is not bad".
Gifted 100 bucks to Neovim on his behalf.
Deal completed. Honors kept.
Just a reminder that, in five short hours, you will be witness to the creator of HTMX,
@htmx_org
, finally confirming that I am, indeed, the Lead CEO of HTMX.
You will all be in shambles.
Rekt.
Join my stream. It will be fun.
@htmx_org
I'm still running a multi-million dollar dev team using HTMX with thousands of users. People keep trashing HTMX. Same old same old. The world turns. Nothing new under the sun. You can probably walk away now.
A negative of unemployment after grinding away for 3 years without a proper vacation = I'm realizing how burnt out I am. Oof. Better buckle down and code more to distract myself.
