Yinzer. Penguins. Steelers. Pirates. WoHo. I deal with stress by watching Pittsburgh sports. Give PGH a woho team challenge. wo0men. "Kind of a dick." she/her.
now presenting the best thing I have EVER done:
@BuffaloBeauts
players as characters from the cinematic classic trilogy of films, the mighty ducks, starting with...
it it disheartening to read “women’s hockey doesn’t belong in the Olympics” and then like a week later see “Americans eliminated from Olympic play” when…the women’s team is literally playing for gold today
it’s not even a full day after Christmas and I’m sick of the “they couldn’t play with the men” takes. women’s hockey doesn’t need to be the nhl to be good or entertaining lol
“wearing a t-shirt or tape isn’t about saying you endorse certain values. What it is saying is to a community of people is you are welcome here.” she’s right and she should say it. man.
the nwhl is good hockey every week with good fans and talented players who sign autographs after every home game win or lose. tell me again how this is bad for women’s hockey. I dare you.
it's absolutely wild to me that the
@IIHFHockey
didn't promote the
#u18wwc
in any way (one tweet/day for the duration of the tournament doesn't count) yet we got over 10.5 THOUSAND people to watch the gold medal game.
on a thursday. on a stream without commentary.
Former PHF goalie Mariah Fujimagari, who signed a PTO last month with the Kalamazoo Wings, became the first woman to win an ECHL game Saturday.
She came in the third period, making a total of 14 saves, including five in OT. The reactions are everything. 🤌🏼

here's a groundbreaking idea: people don't have to be wearing pride flags and advocating to be out. if they're not out to you, does that change the fact that they're out in their regular, personal lives? there's probably a reason they're not out to you.
I have never been o the opinion that the only viable women’s professional sports leagues are the ones that feature “the best”. Men’s sports have developmental leagues. women’s can and should too.
men’s hockey doesn’t only cater to little boys. women’s hockey -and women’s sports in general- are more than JUST hope for little girls. it’s important, sure, but there are a lot of adult fans actually paying to see games and for merch. something to think about.
also don't let it escape you that the "big" names only ever show up when things "look bad". they wrote stories when the c folded and they wrote stories when the p showed up that said "the nwhl is dying." the nwhl is NOT dying, it's here, and it's going to stay.
the irony of the nwhl players being on nhl network earlier today talking about the asg and then them airing the tsn feed of this rivalry series game where we've had *checks notes* two mentions so far of there being "no professional league" is not lost on me, folks
this would be something very cool for the league to start doing. once again, all fans aren’t little kids and we want to learn to play too (or…re-learn, for some of us).
the wnba has been representing the movement their own way since play restarted. it's a different league with different financial backing and structure. they rarely get games on tv. it's not wrong for them to make a statement in a different way.
I am notoriously not a boston fan, so I didn't know Dempsey was the ONLY ONE remaining from that 2015 cup team. watching them kind of suck once the national team members bailed, build a solid core, draft well, and become a powerhouse has been actually really cool to watch.
when will we get american broadcast teams for usa/canada games? and I'm not talking the nhl on nbc guys I'm talking like former women's players doing play-by-play and analysis.
@BuffaloBeauts
Insta takeover today has been really fun! But this is something that always drives me NUTS when we see nhl’ers break sticks bc they’re losing or whatever😬😬😬
nwhl players talk about
#forthegame
in a way that makes it clear they support what the pwhpa is doing but have to carve their own paths. some of these players only got a shot BECAUSE of the group sitting out the n season, so this is a big deal to them.
in all seriousness that’s huge and glad we’ll get some more camera angles (it’s the simple things lol) but…I want the broadcasters who have been here forever involved. they know and care about the the teams. they don’t mispronounce names or talk about the men’s leagues during
anyway nwhl players are mature and acknowledge the p regularly without saying bad stuff about them and just want to grow the game too. Watch them! It’s good hockey.
I want everyone to see how Marcus played that 2 on 1. Perfect positioning, great stick work, doesn’t panic and try that lay flat on the ice thing sooooo many defenders do.
I still think it’s weird they didn’t just call it pwhl connecticut like you made 2 more fanbases mad with that one (rivs and whale) by teasing one and disregarding the other lol
someday, we will be debating which team is gonna win the cup and not if we will have a women’s professional hockey league to watch in the fall. I look forward to those days.
I will say this one thing before Logging off: the thing with the pwhl draft isn’t the percentage of players from X league. It’s where certain players went (both location and round wise) and the ones who were left on the table.
Coach Sullivan on Malkin's status: "No update. We will see how he is tomorrow. Obviously, he got hit with that shot on the power play when he scored. Funny way to score, but a goal is a goal... I think the preliminary prognosis is positive, so that's a positive sign."
points format needs to become 3 for regulation, 2 for OTW, one for OTL in the nhl.
the umbrella formation on the powerplay is good, actually.
2 women’s professional leagues can (and should) co-exist.
you know what was cool about buffalo believes? there were a LOT of adults in the stands. it was held at a venue where you could grab a beer if you wanted. but that didn't take away from the players taking time for the kids after the game.
one of the saddest things about women's hockey is how few goaltenders get a real shot. there are some REALLY talented net minders out there who have to fall back on coaching or leave the game early bc of the lack of opportunities.
observations from someone who has gone to both a dream gap stop and nwhl game (or two!) this year:
- both provided good quality hockey. however the league is very much suffering from a bit of a parity issue right now, partly due to the mass exodus of fan favorites and familiar
coming from a healthcare worker: just follow the corvid-19 recommendations. it's the same idea as vaccinations. it works because of herd immunity and it ONLY works when a large number of the population does it...even if YOU feel fine, think about the kid with the immunological
Good morning,
Hey, .
@PWHPA
, did you know that in 10 years the Blades and Pride won 5 championships?! And made 3 more?
So when considering the negotiation of locations, please remember to:
#SAVEOURPACK
because to this community it’s about more than hockey.
that it was illegal to drive with your overhead light on to the point that if you got caught doing it you would be taken to jail without a trial never to be seen again, probably
I want to go to a woho game and be able to grab a beer on my way to my seat just like I do at men's games. you can support the future of the game and support little kids while still acknowledging adult fans and giving them opportunities to enjoy themselves.
Northeastern assistant captain Alina Müller Was named Hockey East Tournament MVP. She didn’t think she deserved it..She thought Maureen Murphy deserved the MVP trophy… so she gave it to her.
#CawlidgeHawkey
@Avalanche
@NWHL
#beautsorbust
because: young team, solid core, even distribution of canadians and Americans, first players from slovakia in the league, made every isobel cup final played to date, captain once scored 4 goals in 7 minutes...also we have sisters playing for us now which is cool.
I’m gonna say one thing and then I’m gonna go read a book but 2 leagues/orgs means more opportunities for players to keep playing after college. not a bad thing imo
late cause ya girl slept for like 12 hours last night but why didn’t
@NHLFlames
support the inferno when they, you know, existed? all they had to do was some promotion or joint events. Now they’re putting flames sweaters on former inferno players and calling them family lol
would have been cool for one of the public “statements” to talk about the (now former I guess???) phf players. even the one from the former league doesn’t mention them at all. bad vibes.
honestly...I want a women's hockey team in pittsburgh just to see little girls' eyes light up when they go to games, so they don't have to dream of the nhl, so they can have even more role models to look up to in this sport
SO.
Here we go.
Before the NWHL bubble when Toronto didn't have a full roster I contacted their GM and expressed an interest in playing. I wanted to play hockey and hear how everything was going to go down.
this is a pretty cool thread, btw. hockey in general might be very isolating but there is a professional league out there doing some stuff. gay ppl play here, too, if that's something you wondered about.
it’s not the social media managers’ fault they club did what it did, but it’s low level professional men’s hockey and she held her own. Using her for clicks and likes and then dropping her is dumb as hell.
she also held down a three back for half a season and has grown to be far more confident in pressing forward so for those of you quote tweeting to dunk on her maybe watch a match or two first
like i realize raleigh and stamford, ct aren't exactly close but the nwhl is on its holiday break how difficult would it have been to get a player or two down there...or, at the very least, mention the team existing?
the u18 women’s team doesn’t even get a tournament this year and god knows if we’ll see the senior team at worlds (lol) but the continual disregard for the women’s game in stats and coverage is still INCREDIBLY annoying to me.
