I wish it was possible to buy a meal for Elsie. Or actually a load of shopping that would last her for a month. I don't have any grandparents left now, and this breaks my heart.
Thought I would have a go at watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. I've now seen the first episode, and it seems to go on for an awful long time if there's 5 seasons. Is it worth sticking with?

@ReporterRichB
@Patrici89225734
Exactly. Shortages of GPs, midwives, nurses. Shortage/ complete deficiency in affordable child care. School placement system crazy - two kids from the same family can be in schools at either end of a large town. School uniforms mandatory and expensive. And so on...
@MrJohnNicolson
@Sillyshib
"Wholly inaccurate evidence" is just too diplomatic. It was sheer fantasy. Or, if you prefer, a bunch of lies. Never mind no elevation to the HoL, she should lose the Whip, her seat and her ministerial retirement allowance. There MUST be consequences for this kind of behaviour!
@FramesJankoh
@beesquared0912
Yes. It'd be more sensible if him to complain to the management anyway instead of harassing a neighbour. Then the mgt could have set him straight!

Had a retriever x collie. He was allowed on my couch, but not at Mum's when we went on hols. She surprised him one morning and laughed when she remembered him just oozing off the couch, a "You didn't see this, right?" expression on this face.
Damn I miss that dog 💔

@MetroUK_Life
Yep. I remember going above and beyond. I loved my job and wanted to be excellent. Often I wouldn't leave the office until 7 p.m.
Now I work my contracted hours. I have a work life balance, and can focus more on my health.
Keir Starmer says he's looking for an apology from the Govt. Looking at the level of anger on Twitter last night & this morning, I feel the whole government should resign. A coalition can take charge until the next election. Criminal charges to follow.
I can dream.
#resign
@Femi_Sorry
@MichelBarnier
Femi you are amazing.
M. Barnier, your patience and diplomacy should be a standard to which all statesmen aspire. Thank you both for spelling this out, though I fear it's too late for us now.
@Liam_Holman99
@SilkAvril
I think you've done it with that one. The idea that a person's death is OK bc of underlying conditions just to downplay Covid is egregious. Disgusting. Appalling.
You win!
@1goodtern
I know that This Podcast Will Kill You covered this - just looked it up - s2, episode 30. I highly recommend this podcast. The two Erins do a fantastic job of covering some pretty gnarly diseases with attention to detail, compassion and humour.

"Reaching out". What are you, Neil Diamond?
Unnecessary addition of the word "of" after off. You don't take something "off of" the shelf, you simply take it off.
Pronunciation of laboratory (lab-rat-ory) and oregano (oreEGGanoe).
And I LOATHE the use of "fanny" for bum.

I'm willing to bet that if I bagged food up like that for the food bank, they'd chuck it straight in the bin, and if they did it, they'd be in all kinds of trouble. Who thought this was acceptable? Where is the labelling, the list of allergens and additives, the use by date?
@pearceyp78
@nickeardleybbc
Is that France the place with lower energy bills, lower retirement age and a better pension? And, presumably, actually has tomatoes for sale?
@NewStatesman
All of the above, and then some. Lack of affordable childcare. Concerns about the relationship (or lack of), job, career. Zero hour contracts won't help. Or maybe these young women just want to be child free (not childless). Which is a valid option.
Good reminder.
I still feel guilty - I was at a choir event & a guy I didn't know (who said he knew my dad) asked me for a lift home, only a few miles out of my way. I said no. Was I right?
@radiodandy75
thank you, Deanna. at least it's not in the brain - gave my head a good shake and nothing raffled or fell out so that seems like a plus 😂

In the article it says that the heavy rain washed the scorpions out of their nests. They were basically seeking shelter in people's homes.
How would other tabloids report the Christmas story?
* The Sun would lead with "pregnant young girl with older man in stable tryst"
* The Star would rave about shepherds who'd been spoken to by unidentified shining objects in the sky

I don't have a photograph of it but I've heard of a benched with the inscription:
"In memory of [ ] who hated this place because there was never anywhere to bloody sit."
@Hickson1Chris
As a British citizen I can't say I'm enthralled by it either. I would have said France is welcome to him, but it seems he only wants European citizenship so he can live in Greece without being caught by the 90-day rule now inflicted on all of the rest of us.
Many years ago I visited someone who lived in an Eco home. All these new build houses had solar panels, double glazing, insulation, water recycling for flushing the toilets etc. That must have been 10-15 years ago. Why isn't all this included as standard?

Those ghosts... the way they are staring out directly at us... but Johnson won't meet their eyes & probably doesn't even know they're there ... really powerful this one.
😢

It's actually quite a relief to see Johnson with clothes on!
Is it just me, or does Rees-mogg always look like a Carry On character in these pictures?

If you seriously like those comedians, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. On the contrary, at least you have flagged yourself up as someone assiduously to be avoided.

Yes, once Probate is granted, the last Will of every single person in the UK is a public document - except of course for this one particular family. What are they covering up?
OK team, who's up for a game of Gammon Bingo re the latest Dr Who news?
Points for tweets including: woke, PC, lefty, BBC and probably loads of others I can think of right now.
Here's the first :

Well yes, there's a Himalayan salt mine just up the road from me, with a grove of olive trees right by it. We don't grow bananas here though, I think they come from Bedfordshire.

@thejonnyreilly
So it seems.
He couldn't (or shouldn't) be a trustee of a charity though, bc charities have to apply "a fit and proper persons" test, with a signed trustee declaration form. It's rather staggering that such a test isn't required for positions in local or national government.
@BylineTimes

WHY???
We've had 13 years of the most appalling tory mismanagement. The party in power is not representative of the votes cast. Every other democracy has a form of this, other than, (in)famously, Belarus.

Have you not heard of universal credit which is paid out to millions who are actually in employment - some with more than one job - who still can't make ends meet? Don't hit benefits or claimants. Increase the tax free allowance & make the minimum wage enough to actually live on!

I heard a mention of queues on the traffic news this afternoon & wondered weekday was going on there, but of course on traffic, it's just a brief mention & move on.
17 kms.. You'd think *somebody* would be reporting it...
Anyone know if exhaustion after the booster jab (I had Moderna yesterday evening) is a thing? I've had a terrible night's sleep and feel as if if all my bones have been replaced with jelly. Exhaustion /fatigue rather than just tiredness.
Just found the clip from 2018 of
@AndrewCastle63
literally laughing at the idea of opposing Brexit, and Tory MP John Redwood running away from the fact that he knew it would be damaging.
And here we are, 3 years later, with empty shelves and fights in petrol stations.
A horrible day for fatigue. I've just dragged myself through it. I don't know if the fatigue is from Covid, cancer /treatment, the glandular fever I had as a teenager, or just Life, but it's ruddy hard work sometimes. 😑
Goodnight all xxx

So if they're insisting that children are born with severe and life limiting disabilities they will put in place support packages for their medical care and to support the family financially, right?
Right?
@ExmoorJones
@Bgbboy
I've never voted tory, and I'm happy to pay my Council Tax. I help where I can, and support local charities, but this isn't something that should be left to charities to pick up! Donations are falling off. Foodbanks are getting desperate. There will be a real crisis soon.
@turnipdodger
On my commute I go past B&Q. Occasionally have to wait while a large lorry reverses in. The entrance is at a junction (albeit a quiet road). It's extremely tight & v difficult. I've sat and watched for 5-10 minutes whilst the driver inches back into the space. It's a work of art.
@brokenbottleboy
If students are "lacking resilience" it's more likely down to decades of under investment in education, and pressure on teaching to a curriculum specifically for Ofsted targets. Pretty sure nobody could have seen that coming... 🙄
@Zpolishman
Oh yes. Letters from a Lost Generation by Vera Brittain. She had a brother, fiance & two friends went to war in WW1. She wrote to them and kept their letters. All four were killed. Only she was left to remember, hence the 'lost generation' 😥

Increase personal allowance
Free prescriptions for all
No charges for hospital parking
HMRC to go after tax dodgers, esp those who have made millions from the UK taxpayers

You seem not to understand: poverty = lack of choice. You can't be choosy about where you live, what you eat, where your kids go to school, what transport you use or where you work. All these things tie in together. The choice could be between a low paying job or no job at all.
The grand old duke of York he had 12 million quid
he gave it to someone he never met for something he never did 😂
this made me chuckle 🤣
