just to recap: Scotus this term has said the president is king, the administrative state is dead, and bribing public officials is ok. The justices have created a powderkeg, where people can't solve their problems through the government or hold anyone in charge accountable.
Matt Gaetz brought two convicted J6 participants back into the Capitol this week to vent about all the horrors they suffered for being prosecuted: Among those tragedies? Losing TSA PreCheck!
CPAC head Matt Schlapp said the left wing media would have to buy a ticket if they wanted to cover the conservative confab. So I did. Here’s what happened when MAGA people thought I was one of them.
Watch "America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani call Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis a "ho," and the Christian audience at the ReAwaken America tour go wild for it last night.
I decided to turn my twitter rant into an actual story about what Dianne Feinstein’s dementia saga portends for the rest of the country. It isn’t pretty.
Lara Trump at

today said she tells her daughter "in the United States that we get ahead by merit and merit alone." and then said without irony, "I had the great honor of being endorsed by my father-in-law Donald Trump to co chair the RNC."
A tribute to my improbable tea party friend. We were diagnosed with cancer just a week apart. So far I've made it, but he didn't. I'm going to miss him.
Jan 6 defendant John Strand has been convicted on all five charges related to storming the Capitol, including the felony obstructing an official proceeding.
A sign of how much American conservatives are openly embracing authoritarianism since Trump’s election: They’ve put the son of Brazil’s far-right president on 3 panels at

this year.
It's like the justices forgot those early law school lessons about the very purpose of the legal system: to keep people from taking matters into their own hands and killing their neighbors, their leaders, etc.
When

talks about civility, a protester yells, "Civility? You wouldn't even shake the hand of that man whose daughter was killed," referring to Parkland dad

Amy Coney Barrett has never tried a case, argued an appeal, worked as a prosecutor or public defender, visited a jail, represented an indigent client. When the Senate confirms her tonight she will be the least experienced SCOTUS justice in 30 years.
For the past 3 years, I have been arguing with liberals who want to believe that Brett Kavanaugh has some secret benefactor who paid off his debts before his SCOTUS nomination. I finally wrote a story explaining why that's just a conspiracy theory.
My takeaway is basically that Vance sounds a little like he’s been taking public speaking pointers from Kimberly Guilfoyle, making up for content in the applause lines with volume and shouting.
There are millions of baby boomers about to join the ranks of dementia patients and as a country, and as individuals, we still have no fucking idea how to deal with this, so mostly we don't, until there's a huge crisis.
When I interviewed Matt Schlapp about CPAC 2 years ago, he bragged about letting all the journalists in, because all the media coverage showed that CPAC was "the center of political gravity." A lot has changed since then I guess.
The felony carries a 20 yr sentence. His co defendant
@drsimonegold
pleaded guilty to 1 misdemeanor and got 60 days. Strand is probably wishing he’d also taken the plea.
Ahead of her sentencing, scheduled for Thursday, Insurrectionist Simone Gold tells judge her elite credentials should keep her out of prison via

Where Americans, with a pathological obsession with personal freedom are failing to act in the best interests of failing elderly people. You see it in how hard it is to take away someone's driver's license, or move a senior who's become a hoarder into a safer living situation 2/
Last month, Lara Trump told
@cpac
that she tells her daughter, age 4: "in the United States we get ahead by merit and merit alone." Yesterday she was elected co-chair of the Republican National Committee after being endorsed by her father-in-law.
Lara Trump is the new co-chair of the RNC, ensuring another Trump family loyalist in one of the most powerful GOP jobs in the country.
But from making the most terrifying cakes you've ever seen to becoming a political surrogate on Fox News, she's had significant career jumps.
Kavanaugh's refusal to answer a direct question about opening an FBI investigation is similar to his refusal to answer direct questions about his finances, even when it would help him.
So John Strand, underwear model and spokesman for the anti vax group America’s Frontline Doctors, has finally taken the stand to testify at his trial on charges related to storming the Capitol on Jan 6. /1
There are a lot of interesting people at

but the last person I expected to run in to here is Alex Kozinski, former 9th circuit judge and

casualty. He’s not even on a panel. Just here “to get some germs” for his immune system.
I have to say I’m a little surprised that the jury convicted on all 5 counts. Maybe I shouldn’t be but I thought the defense did a decent job of portraying Strand as nonviolent. But the video of him stepping around the fallen officer was pretty damning.

in 2022 had some misgivings about platforming January 6ers. This year they're here in full force: Simone Gold, Jeffrey Clark, Brandon Straka, and their advocates Geri Perna and Julie Kelly. The J6 legal defense fund has a booth in the exhibit hall.
High school year books have been part of the record for every recent Supreme Court nominee. Here's Elena Kagan's. She wore a judicial robe in one of the photos:
Here is WVA congressional candidate and January 6 rioter Derrick Evans with Michael Flynn last night, explaining how the government is spying on people who buy Bibles.
One woman declared herself a “bad citizen” because while she’d watched some initial coverage of the Capitol riot, soon after she canceled all paid TV to save money so has been living in a steady diet of “Bones” and Hulu. She’s a keeper.
One of the great mysteries of this case is why Strand did not take the plea when it was so obvious that a trial would go badly. A former friend, who was one of the people who turned Strand in to the FBI, explained to me simply, “He’s always wanted to be famous."
Amy Coney Barrett even has less legal experience than Harriet Miers did when George W. Bush nominated her in 2005. How did she leapfrog her way to the top of Trump's Supreme Court short list?
This story is depressing on so many levels, not the least of which is the long list of things that have to go wrong in a health care system for a 38-year-old to be suffering from end stage renal failure.
The pandemic killed so many dialysis patients that 2021 was the first year in history that the U.S. dialysis population actually shrank.
The stories and statistics I learned while reporting this broke my heart. Thread:
Just for a refresher: Kozinski is one reason Brett Kavanaugh is on the court. Kav clerked for him and he introduced him at his 2006 dc circuit confirmation hearing. Kozinski’s son then clerked for Kav at SCOTUS.
I’m at a house in DC after being pepper sprayed and knocked down by the police. There are about 100 of us in a house surrounded by cops. All the neighbors on this street opened their doors and are tending to protesters. The cops corralled us on this street and sprayed us down.
Wow. Protester tackled in hearing room. Knocked over whole pile of chairs while being dragged out yelling "Save Roe! Save democracy!"

One of the funnier moments came when Strand’s lawyer introduced his fingerless English Laundry gloves into evidence to prove it was not his fist pumping in one of the riot videos. “No rhymes please,” the judge said, causing a black woman on the jury to burst into hysterics.
Strand’s court appointed lawyer tried to paint him as victim of a powerful older woman
@drsimonegold
without whom he would have never entered the Capitol. AUSA April Ayres-Perez responded “John Strand was 37 yr old man. He was not being dragged around the Cap. by his mother.”
Just watched some guys haul a big wooden pallet across H street to toss in the fire, which is threatening to burn the tree. Now they’ve got an orange traffic barrell to toss on.

For most of the Strand trial the only other reporter regularly in the courtroom has been from the Epoch Times, an outlet the NYT describes as a “global scale misinformation machine.” But towards the end we’ve been joined by OAN. If you’d like a different take on this trial….
