Biden has now done two big things Trump wanted to, passed a bipartisan infrastructure bill and gotten out of Afghanistan. I don't think a lot of people will spin it that way though.
Sen. Kelly Loeffler sold more stock than known, $18.7 million, including shares in retail stores, while buying into a company making coronavirus protective gear, after she attended a closed door briefing and publicly claimed Dems were overhyping the virus.
Fox New's John Roberts asked Pence what went wrong with his promise to have four million tests available by mid-March. Pence said Roberts was confused because Pence only meant tests would exist, not that they'd be completed. Amazing.
The success of Donald Trump, an asshole who became president, created a fallacy: Americans want an asshole as their president. This misapprehension greatly appeals, of course, to assholes, especially those in public office.
An FBI whistleblower says that House Judiciary Committee investigators told him in June that they "were only interested in matters pertaining to Biden." And didn't want to hear about a suspected Russian intelligence asset's payments to Rudy Giuliani.
Durham's final report was complete crap. But he sorta got away with it most writers didn't pay much attention or were Trump partisans would have lauded it no matter what it said. But
@emptywheel
has gotten into details of how sloppy and dishonest it is.
"Rep. Jayapal: "It is clear to me after listening to three hours of questioning that none of this is about text messages. It is rather a full-fledged, irresponsible and very dangerous attempt on the other side to attack and undermine Robert Mueller's investigation..."
Here is a full, annotated transcript of that leaked Oct. 2020 tape in which Bannon described Trump's plan to falsely declare victory on election night. With
@abigailweinberg
.
Last year, Ukrainian lawmakers admitted that Poroshenko's government halted cooperation with Mueller regarding Manafort/corruption because they didn't want to upset Trump while they were buying US anti-tank missiles. This seems strangely forgotten.
At least five Oath Keepers who did security for Roger Stone have been charged with taking part in the 1/6 attack on the Capitol. Stone says never met his security guards; didn't see their faces. But here he is with his security detail from a 12/14 event.
"...Mr. Trump lifted the armrest and began to touch her. According to Ms. Leeds, Mr. Trump grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hand up her skirt. 'He was like an octopus,' she said. 'His hands were everywhere.'"
Musk's silly decision to label NPR "state-affiliated" is a chance to consider how much influence the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has over Twitter via the Kingdom Holding Company/Prince Alwaleed bin Talal's big stake. Surely more than Uncle Sam has over NPR.
“What Trump’s gonna do, is just declare victory. Right? He’s gonna declare victory. But that doesn’t mean he’s a winner,” Bannon, laughing, told the group, according to audio of the meeting obtained by Mother Jones. “He’s just gonna say he’s a winner.”
"Insubordinate" is the telling word in there. Taylor is not required to ignore corruption just because the president wanted him to. But Dowd thinks otherwise.
The big news here is that DOJ's new lawyers seem to have just backed off the second, Barr-influenced second memo and stuck by the initial sentencing recommendation. Wow.
Meadows says the Trump administration is readying a new executive order to expand the federal takeover of cities based on alleged lawlessness: "Attorney General Barr is weighing in on that with Secretary Wolf, and you'll see something rolled out on that this week."
President Trump is committed to standing up to the radical mobs that want to tear down our communities. “Some of the unrest we saw… it’s just not acceptable.”
This is about keeping our communities safe!
Guo Wengui remains in jail facing facing fraud charges. But an org he launched with Bannon, the New Federal State of China, today celebrates its 3rd anniversary at a mansion in Mahwah, NJ. Scheduled speakers include Reps Paul Gosar, Andy Ogles and of course, George Santos.
FBI agents yesterday raided the home of Jonathan Buma, a bureau whistleblower who claims he faced retaliation after running an investigation that found evidence Rudy Giuliani was compromised by Russian intelligence.
"He's gonna sit right there and say, ‘They stole it. I’m directing the attorney general to shut down all ballot places in all 50 states.' He’s not going out easy. If Biden is winning, Trump is going to do some crazy shit."
Two of the operatives involved in Trump's effort to challenges votes, John Sweeney and Pam Bondi, are registered foreign agents. Two others, Giuliani and Lewandowski, have been accused of being unregistered foreign agents.
Giuliani is still at it. In an interview with Glenn Beck, Rudy just said he was in contact TODAY with two Ukrainian prosecutors he claims have evidence of Ukrainian/Democratic collusion in 2016.
Trump's DNC server claims were always silly conspiracy theories, but they are especially dumb after Friday's indictment which noted the DNC server was forensically imaged and the snapshots cryptographically signed, cataloged, and turned over to the FBI. Trump can go view them.
As Drew Harrell noted after Musk fled without addressing questions, "Elon is trying to make this about doxxing and stalking, and that is not it."
He's banning reporters for reporting public information that does not disclose his or his families' location.
This is a next level lie Trump told this morning re Trump Tower Moscow: “Everybody knew about it. It was written about in newspapers. It was a well-known project.”
The project remained secret throughout the campaign because Trump repeatedly lied about it.
Our daily update is published. States reported 1.9 million tests, 214k cases, and 3,067 deaths. There are 107k people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, a new all-time record.
Trump's attempt to steal an election occurred largely in public. So did the attack on Congress he incited. This was unprecedented in US history. People waiting for "bombshells" or elaborate secret plots miss that point, and help Trump move the goalposts.
CNN: Mueller's office wants to know if wealthy Russians used US straw donors to steer $ to the Trump campaign and inaugural fund. We reported last year that the American cousin of Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg gave $250K to the Trump inaugural fund.
Rohrabacher in 2017 revealed he'd offered to help Assange get a pardon in exchange for info suggesting Russians didn't hack Dems in '16. (They did.) But it's wild to see the video. Spain's La Sexta, which aired it, says it was secretly recorded by agents protecting the embassy.
🔴 Imágenes de 2017 que no han visto la luz hasta hoy: Dana Rohrabacher, congresista republicano, estaría ofreciendo el perdón presidencial a Julian Assange a cambio de decir que los rusos no ayudaron a Trump. ▶

The federal trial of Chinese fugitive mogul Guo Wengui starts today in New York with jury selection. Guo’s alleged fleecing of his own followers could not have happened without MAGA types he paid, especially Steve Bannon, boosting his profile.
House Intelligence Committee Democrats are reviewing witness testimony and plan to send criminal referrals urging Mueller to prosecute any who lied to the panel.
Why was Harry Sargeant III, a billionaire oil and shipping magnate, bankrolling Lev Parnas's travel expenses? Sargeant says it was just a loan that Parnas never repaid. That's clearly not the whole story.
Coronavirus caused the death of more than 300,000 Americans by early October, the CDC found by tracking excess mortality. Trump said “we’re doing fine.”
When Pence said on 3/10 that four million tests would be distributed by the end of that week, the obvious implication was that they'd be completable. He's now faulting reporters for quoting his own bullshit. "What you fail to understand, John, is that I had my fingers crossed."
Just after our Bannon story went up Tues, the 1/6 committee revealed Bannon had 3 calls with Trump on Jan 5. So Bannon was talking directly to Trump, at least in Jan. ;
And he was talking to Rudy. So Bannon wasn't just speculating about Trump's plan.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee just interrupted Rep. Jim Jordan to assert, in part that Republicans are planning to fire Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein "on Friday."
Steve Bannon, convicted of contempt of Congress and indicted for fraud, is helping Peter Navarro raise money on Gettr for his upcoming contempt of Congress trial by posting of picture of the two of them with Guo Wengui, who is also charged with fraud.
House Democratic chairs ask the DHS and DOJ IGs to investigate the "use of federal law enforcement agencies" by Barr and Wolf "to suppress First Amendment protected activities in Washington, D.C. Portland, and other communities across the United States."
Giuliani wasn’t the only Trump lawyer mixed up in US foreign policy. Jay Sekulow was involved in talks that seemed to link Turkey’s release of Pastor Andrew Brunson to the Justice Department backing off prosecution of Turkey’s national bank.
Pence, Barr, McConnell etc. should have acknowledged that Biden won and there wasn't fraud on Nov. 7, when the race was called. The committee touts the actions those guys took weeks later. That helps keep focus on Trump's guilt. But their waiting helped Stop the Steal get going.
Got back to reviewing the Jan. 6 committee transcripts, and the gap between when William Barr began thinking about telling the American public the obvious and when he actually articulated the obvious to the public is pretty significant!
Important point: The Trump campaign didn't just think Stone was giving them information on Assange's plans. They also thought that Stone was helping to orchestrate the release of the stolen emails.
Mueller investigated Trump Jr. for campaign finance violations. . The GOP-led Senate Intel Committee in 2019 asked DOJ to consider charging Trump Jr. for lying to them. . DOJ declined to charge him both times.
Stop the Steal organizer Ali Alexander said that the movement in Arizona “was started with one man, Rep. Mark Finchem.” Now we know Finchem was paid by the Trump campaign.
Ali Alexander claims that up to 50 GOP in the Arizona House of Representatives are involved in some way with Stop the Steal.
Stop the Steal in Arizona "started with one man Mark Finchen."
"Stop the Steal has taken over Arizona"
Dershowitz’s claim he would “never support any intimidation of a journalist” is a howler. He threatened to sue me if we said a contract he had with a lobbyist seeking business in Israel created a conflict when he advised the WH on this “peace plan.”
Just spoke to
@AlanDersh
about the video of him patting Pompeo on the back, seemingly in a show of support after Trump praised him for his treatment of
@NPRKelly
.
He claims his pat on the back was misconstrued. Quotes here:
Monica Crowley, reportedly picked for a Treasury job, helped an oligarch promote a pro-Russia “peace plan” similar to one that was at the center of Mueller’s investigation.
Federal agents and members of the military policing protests are now legally required to display info identifying themselves and their org under a provision in the Defense Authorization bill that just became law after Congress overrode Trump's veto.
Sen. Warren asks if the chief justice of the Supreme Court presiding over an impeachment trial in which Republicans are blocking all witnesses from testifying results in Americans losing confidence in the chief justice, among others. Roberts, the chief justice, read the question.
A reminder that Roger Stone claimed he tried secretly and then publicly to get Trump to preemptively pardon Assange in the US to prevent any charges here.
People may recall the mysterious fire that started in the luxury penthouse of Chinese fugitive mogul and Bannon patron Guo Wengui last year hours after his arrest for fraud. Today, just before his trial starts, feds revealed new evidence about the fire.
The Trump campaign paid an Arizona state Republican while he supported overturning Biden’s win in his state. He was also in Washington and outside the Capitol during the 1/6 attack.
Judge's ex-girlfriend, whose story supports Julie Swetnick's claims about Kavanaugh, is willing to talk to the Judiciary Committee. So is Swetnick. So is is Deborah Ramirez. . But Republicans want to suppress these accounts and jam Kavanaugh through.
It's been clear for nearly 11 months that Barr misled Americans about Mueller's report. But now a federal judge effectively accused Barr of lying about the report. Big deal.
“I’ve always believed that defeating Donald Trump starts with uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it. After yesterday’s vote, it is clear that candidate is my friend and a great American, Joe Biden.” -
@MikeBloomberg
Rep. Ted Deutch said that Roger Stone "threatened to kill a witness." Barr responded by saying the "the witness didn't think" it was real threat. The witness,
@Credico2016
, has said he felt threatened by Stone and that Barr twisted his words.
Bannon said that what he knew were lies about Hunter Biden (that his laptop had images of him raping children) were politically effective and put Trump close enough in polls to lie about the election and try to self coup. What could be more cynical?
Why did the head of a Qatari Investment fund recently accused of plotting to bribe Trump administration officials meet with Cohen and Trump transition team members on December 12, 2016?
For the last few days, followers of exiled Chinese mogul Guo Wengui have been tweeting at me, urging each other to try to get me suspended for writing articles exposing activities of Gou and Steve Bannon, who works with and for Guo. A couple points on this.
Cheney seemed to have a message for Garland a minute ago. "Each of these efforts to overturn the election is independently serious. Each deserves attention both by Congress and by the Department of Justice"
Hospitalizations FOR coronavirus are way up, whatever McEnany is trying to say. But also, COVID-19 deaths are back up to nearly 1,000 a day. That means the Trump administration's whole talking point that new confirmed cases doesn't mean more deaths is out the window, debunked.
While we wait and see if Ornato will dispute a colorful but legally meaningless detail of Hutchinson's account on the record, let alone under oath, Pat Cipollone, more importantly, does not deny he warned that Trump messing with Congress certifying the election would be a crime.
See this thread re Ornato’s credibility problems.
Ornato should testify under oath if he’s going to dispute Hutchinson’s testimony.
And the FBI can, if put to the task, find out if he’s lying.
Thank you,
@Alyssafarah
Meadows cited Chicago and Milwaukee and unnamed locations in the "heartland" as targets. And the Trump campaign is eagerly promoting this authoritarianism.
The wild thing about Giuliani and Trumpers pushing this story is that Rudy last year got $100,000 or more from Louis Freeh to write a letter to Romania's president that promoted the interests of Freeh's client, Gabriel Popoviciu. That's the guy Hunter Biden worked for.
Michael Flynn and George Papadopoulos are scheduled to speak at conference organized by a QAnon supporter, and which features on its website an American flag with a big Q on it.
Porter got Redfield, after he punted several times, to agree that CDC would cover the costs of coronavirus testing for all Americans, regardless of whether they have health insurance: "I think you're an excellent questioner so my answer is yes."
And speaking of Burr and briefings, remember that the Mueller report indicated he gave the White House names of FBI targets he heard in a briefing by Comey.
4/1/05: "Assistant Attorney General Christopher A. Wray of the Criminal Division announced today that... Samuel R. Berger has pleaded guilty to a charge of knowingly removing classified documents from the National Archives and Records Administration."
BREAKING: The 15 boxes of White House records stored at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence included classified national security information, the national archives says. The agency said it has referred the matter to the Justice Department.
While the right pushed deep state conspiracy BS, in real life, agencies like the IRS and GSA didn’t do their jobs when they feared it would make Trump mad at them. That is a form of corruption.
Steve Bannon's patron, Guo Wengui, the Chinese exile and Gettr financier, has filed for bankruptcy, days after a judge ordered him to pay $134 million to creditor. … Guo, regularly identified as a billionaire, claims he is worth $50-$100K.
What accusation against Kushner has proved false? Sought Russian backchannel? Secretly sucked up to MBS? Made inaccaute claims in security clearance application? All true. Fumbled Middle East peace process? Looks right. Misled Congress? Quite possibly.
In extremely rare interview and even rarer with Fox, Jared Kushner gets asked about the Newbold intvw w House Oversight. He says, "Over the last few years that I’ve been here, I’ve been accused of all different types of things, and all of those things have turned out to be false"
Bannon said mail-in ballots tending to take days to quote, gave Democrats "a natural disadvantage. And Trump’s going to take advantage of it. That’s our strategy. He’s gonna declare himself a winner.”
50,000, likely a substantial undercount, are confirmed dead, unemployment’s hitting 20%, while Trump, refusing to acknowledge failure, apologize or mourn, suggests ingesting disinfectant. Almost the full nightmare, though he could still start a war.
Judge Jackson to Manafort: Do you understand that “you are agreeing to cooperate, wholly and truthfully, with the inquiry being conducted by the Oiffce Special Counsel?”
Manafort: “I do.”
On Weds at the Miles Guo trial, gov witness Karin Maistrello testified that Guo paid Steve Bannon $ 1 million in 4 installments in 2018. Asked what Bannon did for Guo's nonprofit, the Rule of Law Society, where he was on the board, Maistrello said "he didn’t really do anything.”
Guo Wengui, the exiled far right Chinese mogul who appears to have a controlling stake in Gettr, said Sat that Getter CEO Jason Miller told him that a company account with $200 million in it "was frozen" last week for "inspection and confiscation."
