A few things…
1. Connectivity and CULTURE win games…we made the Final 4 with one kid that has a high major offer
2. THEY DESERVE MORE OFFERS‼️
3. The kids left EVERYTHING out there.
@j12lon
needed a stretcher to leave the gym!
4. I couldn’t be more proud

Was talking with my guy
@buddyhield
about why people don’t go ‘All in’ for things and we started talking about fear of failure. Buddy went on to say “I love failure, because when you fail you cant go down anymore…the only place you can go is up.”…very cool perspective to me.
A glimpse of my story in under 2 min‼️ Im sorry for blowing up your phone
@teddyowens
but I had to get my foot in the door 😂 Im always thankful for you giving me an “opportunity” ‼️🙏🏻
Im out scouting this week and here are a few things I will pay close attention to:
✅ Making the “easy” (right) play
✅ Off ball def stance/positioning
✅ On ball def intensity
✅ Interacting with teammates
✅ Body Language
✅ Competing (Giving your best)
✅ Energy Givers
Im getting concerned why every D2 in the state hasnt offered 2023 Combo Guard Evan Barber (
@evan_barber4
). It’s a STRAIGHT STEAL imo…I think he is at least a low-mid major player. Kid can GO…I’ve seen him play (& produce) enough to say this with 100 percent confidence.
I hate that Oklahoma doesnt have a shot clock, man! The game would be so much faster and fun to watch. Also, it hopefully gets rid of the "5 second rule" which is so outdated imo...it forces players to play out of control. That rule needs to go whenever the shot clock happens.
No trainer/coach can make you great…. All I (we) can do is show you a way or point you in a direction and its up to YOU to do things in a great way. It begins with a vision and ends with an obsession to be better than you were yesterday. Its always on you.
For my fellow dream chasers…its okay to be discouraged. Sometimes the obstacles are so grueling that the hardship will dampen your spirits. Its okay to “think” about quitting. I did/have many times…just know, dawn is just after the darkest hour. Bend but never break 🙏🏻💯
"How you do anything is how you do everything"
I learned this lesson folding towels during my time as a manager for OU when my dream was to be on the team.
Who would've thought that folding towels actually helped me be a better basketball player?
Standards are standards...
I stay pretty silent…but
@PHCircuit
really needs to redo their rankings for the 2025 class. If you are going to do rankings, you better do your homework.
Levi Kelly is HIM‼️ I couldnt be more proud of this guy man! Kid persevered all year & finally got his chance & was an absolute DIFFERENCE MAKER‼️ Levi was a huge part of our Final 4 run and is one of my favorite kids ive ever been able to coach‼️Love you lil bro‼️
@levi_kelly10
Ive seen easily over 100 HS games this year and here are 3 things that really stick out to me.
1. Coaches MUST change with the times…too many are stuck in THEIR ways
2. 95% of players have no idea how to move off-ball or play through action
3. Lack of early action in offense
One of the greatest gifts we can provide others is to inspire them on their journey…every session I do I make sure I leave the kids with something they can take beyond the 94x50…that is the real win for me. I love the game but I will always love people more! People > Players!
People really getting upset because I’m saying I don’t like stall ball and favor a shot clock when College & NBA both have it…acting like it’s a foreign concept…Euro even has it 😂
❌ Forced Shots 👎🏻
❌ Over Dribbling 👎🏻
❌ Lazy Defense 👎🏻
❌ Bad Body Language 👎🏻
❌ Poor effort 👎🏻
Find a way to make your team better! Whether you play for us or someone else…find a way to add value to your team! It can be as simple as having great enthusiasm! 💯

Weatherford is a PROBLEM! A lot of length on the court with
@NicksonCj
front and center running the show. I wouldnt be surprised if CJ finished the year with multiple triple doubles. 👀

Newcastle vs Douglas was hands down game of the year so far…unbelievable game for the whole 32 min. Back and forth the entire time! Great to see my guys
@connorboydstun
&
@its_davon5
with the clutch buckets at the end!
The decisions we make everyday MATTER… especially on the days where the motivation/desire isnt there…because those are the days you have to dig deeper within and connect to a “Why” that is bigger than what you are “feeling”. Keep the vision close, my friends‼️💯
So many details in this video…elite pick-up, timing, rhythm, flow, energy transfer, and much more. No secret why
@buddyhield
has made more 3s than anyone the past 5 seasons…bro is really ELITE and puts in STRAIGHT WORK‼️
PG1
@CalFurnish
just absolutely controls every single game. Never sped up - never out of control. Gets the ball where it needs to go and makes winning play after winning play. Had a 4 to 1 assist to turnover ration with an ABSURD usage rate & had 1.26 points per FGA...EFFICIENT!
There is an art to the midrange that 99% of kids arent willing to buy in to. The only player I have worked with that has 100% bought in is
@CalFurnish
…he works on it non-stop and made the unorthodox, orthodox and the uncomfortable, comfortable 💯
Wish more kids shot the midrange ..I could care less what analytics say..so many kids pass up good looks because they aren’t comfortable with it, so they get all to the rim where a giant is waiting for them and now it’s a contested layup instead of a wide open pull up ..
Mental lapses are perhaps one of the biggest obstacles to YOUR SUCCESS‼️ Its okay for a random thought to enter your mind but you dont have to follow it and lose focus from the task! Acknowledge it-Come back where your feet are-Let the thought naturally pass-and DO WORK‼️
Accountability is 🔑 ‼️ Constantly holding players to a standard of enthusiasm, effort, and focus in every area of the game…not just when they have the rock‼️

Sunday, September 11th I am doing a clinic with the Back to Back National Coach of the year

from 5-7pm at Solid Rock! Don’t miss it!! Contact me to sign up!

I literally despise some of the rankings and write up stuff I see. You wont see me do any of that unless I have done my homework. If you are going to be in that line of business you better study the game, watch a lot of film on players, and get input from valuable sources.
The REAL dream is the work…its the early mornings, the late nights, the hustle, the workouts you dont feel like doing but you do anyway, it’s the work and the self-discipline that shape you…the work is always the REWARD.
Lab work tonight at 7 & 8pm! Dont miss out on this REAL WORK‼️ Im excited to level up again with some of Central Oklahoma’s hungriest hoopers‼️ Let’s get it‼️😤💯
Most of you players need to “get out of your bag” and learn how to play 0.5 basketball…pass it-drive it-shoot it‼️What you will notice is “your bag” is much better when you let things unfold naturally instead of trying to do too much.
“So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death & life’s troubles. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love.” Rms838
For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. (Hebrews 4:12)
I’ve watched A LOT of games this week and 3 questions I think every player should ask themselves are:
1. Do I make others better? (Both when playing or when on bench)
2. What do I need to do more to make others better?
3. What do I need to do less of so WE can be better?
“Leave it better than you found it.”
A simple phrase that I live by and has helped me tremendously over the years.
Live this world better, leave practice better, leave a room of people with better energy, leave a bench/locker room neater, leave TODAY better.
LEAVE BETTER!
Bad body language just isn’t it man…it is hard to watch, be around, and coach. It’s all a battle between your ears…feelings and thoughts come into the mind and YOU CHOOSE how to respond to them. The greats, aka the strong-minded, see past the feeling/thought and march on.
One of the most overlooked roles on a basketball team is a "ball-mover" or "action guy". A player that makes quick reversals/decision with the ball and constantly initiates actions by cutting/screening/moving.
This guy
@NicksonCj
had one of the most impressive sequence of plays I have ever seen. Beats a shot off the glass, runs the floor for an outlet, makes a behind the back to a floater with soft touch off the rim. We need that video
@OKHoopsReport
😂
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If you truly want to follow me, you should at once completely reject and disown your own life. And you must be willing to share my cross and experience it as your own, as you continually surrender to my ways. (Matthew 16:24)
Great competitive finishing drill to do with your players to work on fighting for angles, physicality handling the ball, and playing through contact at the rim!
More coming September 11th! 🔥🔥

Wednesday & Sunday we are getting better‼️ Its been great to see so many players grow-learn-& evolve throughout the season. The best thing Ive seen from countless players is them learning HOW TO WORK and gaining confidence in themselves through that! Thats the W for me‼️💯💪🏻
The more you want something, the more you press against difficulty, and the more you demand excellence in your process…the more things fall into place. It may take a while, but thats only because the dream’s gotta make sure you are worthy!
The two snipers
@its_davon5
and
@j12lon
both shot over 50% from 3 on the weekend shooting it in VOLUME! Jaylon is one of the best on-ball defenders in the country and Davon is one of the best movement shooters I have ever seen in HS. Reminds me of someone
@buddyhield
👀
2 things I always preach in my sessions.
1. Leadership has a sound…you cant lead/inspire in silence.
2. Most of the time your energy is in direct relation to your voice. Meaning, the less vocal you are = the less energetic you will be. IF YOU WANT MORE ENERGY, USE YOUR VOICE‼️
My guy
@romanmiller2025
was limping around yesterday with a knee bruise and still giving out buckets! Led us in scoring in each game, doing it efficiently and in the flow of the game! Also had a double-double...BIG GUARD CHRONICLES!
DONT FORCE THE BAG‼️ Get better at creating advantages away from the ball or through concepts/actions and let your hard-earned skill naturally unfold through flow of the game‼️
Gratitude, Humility, and Enthusiasm will take you a long ways…the cool thing is you have a choice in all 3 every moment. You won’t always be perfect, but you can be intentional.
Its easy to talk about hardships as if they are a breeze. When you have sacrificed so much time/energy and something doesnt happen it is easy to feel betrayed. Keep pushing and get lost in the work…one day you will hopefully see the work is the reward ‼️
6'8 Kaidon Rayfield was huge in the last minute of the game, scoring 6 straight points including this dunk to send Team Griffin to the Final 4 of Peach Jam after defeating Drive Nation 70-68 (E16).

Joy is contagious‼️ The Clinic yesterday was JUMPING WITH ENERGY‼️ Major s/o to my guy
@CoachLuke137
for coming through and killing it! I know everyone that was there got better, including myself‼️Next one is 9/18 from 2-4pm‼️ ONLY 24 Spots available‼️ First come - First Serve‼️
So much of what I see is players forcing bad shots, over-driving, or driving the ball when gaps are plugged…what you need to realize is what makes great players is how they make OTHERS better. Good players can put up numbers, but great players make everyone around them better.

A fully grown elephant can be tied to a pole by a small rope…even though he has the strength to break the rope now, when he was a baby he wasnt strong enough to break free and he will go his whole life believing the rope is stronger than him…beliefs are a powerful thing…

🔥 91 points over his last 3 games
1st ACC player to score at least 91 points against league competition in a 3-game span since BC's Jerome Robinson (Feb. 2018) 👨🍳🍽️

The recipe is simple…urgency, consistency, curiosity, attention to detail, and sweat. Its the ability to attack everyday with those things when the distance is unknown that is difficult.
You see what you want to see when you read something man…its obvious why people stall…to win the game. I understand that can be the best “strategy” to win the game. Im not arguing that. I’d just rather have a shot clock where that isnt an option. You can agree or disagree. 👍🏻
Something to think about…
Possibly no one outside of yourself is going to sleep at night thinking about how you can be successful.
My advice: Don’t wait on other peoples permission to be great…if you want something, YOU have to go get it. Plain and simple.
These
@NXTPROHoopsOK
writers need to do better man. If you are going to do write ups, you gotta do your homework! Anybody that has seen Newcastle or has seen
@connorboydstun
knows that he should be on this list. Quality write ups >>> quantity.
Top 5 in E16 in assist, shot 40% from 3 on the year, and had a 29-5 assist to turnover ratio at Peach Jam (made the Final Four)…kid is an absolute winner. The results speak for themselves‼️
A sneak peak of a “situational” drill we did last week! A great drill for any coach to do with there team! More coming this week! Would love to have a handful of coaches there to connect and share ideas!
Im okay with mistakes as long as the INTENT is there! You are supposed to make mistakes/get uncomfortable in sessions but having poor effort, focus, or intensity is never okay. Work with intent and get a little bit better each rep…be mindful, engaged, and absorbed WITH the work!
