Level Designer @ Arkane Lyon. Previously 3D Realms, Streumon Studio. Project Director on The Black Parade for Thief. Opinions are my own. Immersive Sims forever
I am very proud to announce on behalf of our team Feuillade Industries that The Black Parade, our unofficial expansion for Thief Gold, is out TODAY!
It's a brand new game featuring 10 missions, 4 new tools, 30 minutes of gorgeous cutscenes and more!

Something pretty big happened today. A prototype of Thief 2: The Metal Age, dated Nov 4, 1999 was released on the Internet. It is, as you imagine, an absolute treasure trove so let's dig in, shall we?
I’ll be very polite: while I agree with what you’re saying I find your use of emotes particularly disrespectful towards my colleagues and others who have no say in decisions like these.
To everyone whose been pestering me for years about why we didn't allow Moon Studios to get acquired by a big publisher...
That's why.
I've lived through the 90s and saw what happened when smaller studios got acquired by EA.
Never again 🤣😂
Happy 10th anniversary to E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, released on this day in 2011.
I am still very proud of this game, my first (and so far only) professional release. I'm very happy that it got a cult following over the years with some incredible memes.
"Why do modders make better mods and maps than paid devs?"
I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the fact that they can take as much time as they want and make content that is essentially the culmination of years of iteration over the same game that already exists.
One week after the release, The Black Parade has a 9.79 average score from 33 people on Thief Guild, has had coverage on several online publications, has had coverage from
@Lord_Mandalore
and a New Blood stream, and is doing great on ModDB. Thank you so much for such a reception!
I've used them many many times over the years but I still find it amazing how gorgeous the metal textures from Quake look. By far my favorite theme in the game.
@Johny_Scissors
That’s not the problem, I agree with that. I have a problem with the use of emotes, as if everyone losing their jobs after an acquisition is responsible for said acquisition in the first place. As in “look how clever I am”. That doesn’t gel with me.
Holy shit Fortune's Run is several chef's kisses in a row (yes, I'm only checking it out now). You've got parkour, light-based stealth, cool melee, proper 90s diegetic UI (with a crosshair similar to System Shock's) AND it's set in one of the grittiest cyberpunk world I've seen.
You can save Farkus from being killed at the beginning of Assassins in Thief by throwing an object so it collides with the assassin's arrow but he will eventually die of a heart attack regardless.
Possibly unpopular opinion: Predator and The Thing are near perfect films but they both suffer from the same problem which prevents them from reaching perfection to me: they both show an alien spacecraft at the beginning, which dilutes the mystery.
Last thing I'll say for now — I'm an honest person and the people who know me know I have an aversion towards corpo stuff.
I am proud to work at Arkane, a studio I consider to be the best in the biz and I am doubly proud to work under Dinga's leadership.
This is absolutely terrible. Permission to be human : to any executive reading this, friendly reminder that video games are an entertainment/cultural industry, and your business as a corporation is to take care of your artists/entertainers and help them create value for you.
The Black Parade is entering its final phase of development! This means level design is starting to get wrapped up and we are entering full cutscene and briefing videos production!
To celebrate, we are releasing a big media update you can see here:
The situation 343 is facing and honestly the overall discourse around games and developers online is a clear example of why I decided a while ago not to engage with gamers anymore. It is simply not worth the hassle.
The intro for the game is of lesser quality and is quite unfinished: it is missing a lot of audio cues and uses the music from Thief 1's intros. The biggest difference though is the quote at the beginning.
We’re excited to announce Marvel’s Blade is in development from Arkane Lyon, the award-winning studio behind Dishonored and DEATHLOOP. In collaboration with
@MarvelGames
, Marvel’s Blade is a mature, single-player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris.

The Black Parade is in PCGamer!
"Stealth classic Thief: The Dark Project just got a 10-mission fan campaign called The Black Parade from a team led by an Arkane Lyon level designer"
David Zaslav never actually watched ‘COYOTE VS ACME’ and is still intent on now deleting the movie.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy only saw a directors cut.

Little thread about WRATH's delay and the future.
First and foremost, I'm very grateful to the people who are understanding and I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. The team was dreading today's announcement and it went far better than we expected.
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, which is so far my only released title (finished, at least). It made me feel very proud to have contributed to this game even though not everything was rainbows and sunshine, and the initial reception wasn't very good.
Ever wanted to play the exclusive secret levels made by Lobotomy Software for their Quake port for the Sega Saturn on PC? You can do it now with this release by ILike80sRock!
Decided to delve into custom maps for DUSK! First one I played is Vertigo City, available here. It's sprawling and features large open areas and much tighter ones. Not too difficult but no slouch either. My biggest criticism is that it's VERY dark.
Part of the reason why The Black Parade has been in dev for so long and is still not finished yet is precisely that. We are making some of the most complex, largest and most dense Thief levels ever made on our free time and it takes an ungodly amount of time to get it right.
It takes both David and I several months to make *1* Gloomwood area in the time it took just David to make 4-5 DUSK maps.
The density, AI scripting, setdressing, room brushing and bug fixing process for an imsim is complex and requires a ton of effort.
Booted up The Black Parade just to ensure it works for tonight's stream. Greeted with this lovely custom main menu that sets the mood while feeling extremely authentic to the '90s era. Already a great sign of a team who really cares about the source material.
New players rejoice.

's dynamic scaling means enemies will scale up to match each player's individual level.
Players of any level can party up and slay together.
This really really sucks, I know a lot of very talented and sweet people there. There are job openings at Arkane Lyon for our new project Blade, feel free to reach out.
I'm looking for a paid level design gig.
I specialize in BSP and non-linear, interconnected, vertical and freeform level design for first-person games and have been making levels for around 15 years. Pics are a small sample of my work. RTs appreciated!
After more than 3 months working from home I am now at Arkane Lyon's offices and am seated right in front of this guy's mask. It peers into my very soul. It wants to devour me.
Deathloop first impressions:
- I love the VA
- Artistic direction is phenomenal
- Game reminds me of NOLF more than anything else
- Stealth seems like an afterthought but the gunplay is top-tier and really fun
- Level design is amazing as usual with Arkane
Running Interference is still the first mission but it is in prototype form. The layout is all there and there is even a map, though the automap feature was not implemented yet.
That and immersive sims are impossible to market to a wide audience because the thing immersive nerds care about are completely different from what the average gamer cares about. This isn't an elitist comment, just that immersive sims are very niche.
"The reason why Prey bombed was because they didn't market it. If they marketed it, it would have done well."
*Deathloop gets marketed*
"The reason this game will bomb is because they over-marketed it. If they marketed it less, it would have done well."
imsim curse yadayada
Update on this: dumptruck talked to me and has admitted to his mistake. People can talk about this subject again from what I can see (which, in my opinion and the opinion of others, goes beyond "regular" political talk).
It could be a screwup on my part but the NPCs are all frozen and all objects have a weird color applied to them. Oh and there is also a piano object, how cool is that?
The Black Parade is on Destructoid! Thanks for the shout out but I can’t stress enough that Feuillade Industries is not me alone, it’s 7 people in total and there isn’t one person who is more important than another.
Today in skacky & co's never ever projects... I don't think I've ever publicly shown pics of this Hammerite Imperium mission for Thief 2 that was started back in 2016. I still have a majority of the files so it should be possible to finish it one day.
No joke but I am a person who has respect for inanimate objects. For example, I never take it out on inanimate objects when I'm angry because a) someone worked to make it and b) it didn't do anything. This makes me feel really weird inside lol.
Modern times in Estonia. A robot which had become stuck in the snow, saw me coming, and asked with a synthesised voice whether I could help out. So I did, and both of us carried on with our day.
lmao what's not to love with Henry Cavill? I was pretty big into Warhammer 40k when I was younger too, had a Chaos Space Marines army and I was starting a Sisters of Battle army as well.
i'm pretty sure this is the moment that Henry Cavill and Joey Batey got the entire cast of THE WITCHER painting Warhammer miniatures

Iron Lung is really cool and is a great example as to why sound is crucial to the experience. The game is really good at creeping you out while you do pretty much nothing but move your submarine using coordinates with zero visibility.
Thing to keep in mind as a creator:
- It's very easy to ignore 1,000 positive messages and focus on the only negative one.
- Usually people are more prone to writing negative messages especially in the age of social media/discord. People who like things are usually quiet.
