I used to have this mentality of you can't get good jobs in Nigeria until I did my internship with Huawei...
I interned in a unit of very brilliant and hardworking guys. One of the Youth Corps members in that team graduated with a 1st class from OAU
Education has taken many people to where they never dreamed
Got a friend that struggled to pay N17k school fees in our final year in 2005/2006, but a very brilliant guy
10 yrs later, by 2015/16, he was opening a N60m house
What happened in those 10 years? Good grade = good job
He's now relocated to Canada & I'm not surprised he's doing fine
That Brst Graduating Studrbt of UNILAG nko? Has an MSc from a too UK school & also running a media company in Nigeria
Education is a good way to make it out of the trenches
@PureMinD__
Fun fact; my Dad didn't like his songs but met him at the airport once. The man came home to praise how gentle Obesere was. My dad had totally imagined someone who would be a nuisance in public but got a rude shock when he met him. Legend!
A co-intern went on to graduate as the Best Graduating Student from UNILAG.
And there was me that wasn't so sure of his 2:1.
I remember the Youth Corper telling me to give it my best shot to graduate with a 2:1.
That OAU first class graduate's work ethic secured him a good job with a commercial bank & an all expenses paid scholarship to Saudi Arabia roughly 1 year after NYSC. He rejected the scholarship to take the job as he was sure he could secure another scholarship later if he wanted
What I then realised from working closely with these guys was the work ethic...
Their work ethic was on a different level; e dey finer me anytime we go to site. My co-intern's IT report motivated me to write mine.
@its_shaokhan
Of course, I did! I wrote the damned best IT report in my set and worked extra hard to secure the 2:1.
Published a journal paper from my thesis too.
A lot of people don't know what's up with the Providus Bank ish so I'm going to give a brief explanation. I may be wrong on some things though & please correct me if you think I am wrong about some stuff
As a back-end developer building an API, you need to look at the Figma design of the product you're building once in a while.
So that you'll quickly point out the beans being cooked there
If they don't have a sandbox environment; don't read the docs; you'll be wasting your time
If they don't have an endpoint to query the status of a transaction based on a unique attribute or property; don't bother with the integration... it will end in hot tears
In my 500L, my course adviser told us about a boy who only wrote 1 exam per semester. The day his father was summoned to see his child's results, the man was weeping in the HODs office. This thing dey pain mehn and you really can't understand until you become a parent
@ToyosiGodwin
Just take any job address you're given and search for it on Nairaland. If you don't get any hits, create a thread asking for directions to the place and just wait. E sure me die; somebody will give you full details
@donifez224
Huawei had a policy of employing majorly 1st class graduates. You won't know the "engineer" you're talking with is an efiwe until you try to bullshit him or her.
They'll now show you their true color leaving you in amazement. Bright people everywhere
@basilabia
People really don't get the scale of this. AbESAN Estate, Ipaja has close to if not more than 1000 blocks of 6 flats.
That's easily 6000 flats & the flats were sold to the masses using LBIC & mortgage loans.

Imagine the said brother now flunks in school. Twitter people will say you should para with emotional intelligence.
I pray for success for your bro & that your blessings continue to multiply.
Sending you e-hugs
There are women selling baby things at Isale Eko who used that business to train children with some even schooling and/or vacationing overseas
Many of the children see the cash flow in the business then abandon their degrees & join their mothers
I got this from my best man and it got me thinking of my friend whose mum retired from banking and started selling Gele in the market full time. She made all more than her entire banking career’s salary in a short time. Her daughter left banking too to join her and no regrets.
@venusakingba
The match that pained me in this tournament was their win against the Czech Republic. That Czech Republic team had Poborsky, Koller, Nedved, Rosicky, Heinz and Baros. I was really rooting for the Czechs

@pixelDahn
appreciation tweet! The man's presentations are rib cracking!!! If you're looking for a speaker for your Tech or Design event, this guy needs to be your opening act
@XivTroy
I absolutely felt ready for a relationship before getting into this one. Had a 4 year break and it was enough to get myself together emotionally, financially and psychologically
@zizzycarter
Diaper still isn't smart...
Can't dial numbers using name contact was stored.
Pressing 7464 should give me contacts with Simi in their name.
An obscure Samsung from 5years ago did this seamlessly well
Developers who do a 9 - 5, then go on to work on OSS and personal projects in their spare time are bosses. I don't even want to talk of those who still add community relations to it; those one are gods.
Please respect them; their spare time is very expensive!
If user submits form again; that is another BVN validation. I don't have money to waste abeg. Cache the first successful BVN validation. Set the cache to expire after one day.
If NDPR comes for audit, SSH into server and clear the cache. NDPR in the porteaux porteaux
@EditiEffiong
Growth is personal and takes time to manifest. Because I can't see it right now doesn't mean I'm not growing. If I continue to put in the work diligently, all the hard work will eventually pay off
@Dominus_Kelvin
I used to do a 403; but then I realised it informed the user the resource exists.
I now do a 404; the same way Github returns a 404 when you try accessing a private repo you don't have access to.
It's simply security by obscurity
They definitely don't want to tie themselves to that risk because a lot of the virtual accounts are not yet tied to BVN(s).
So deactivating the virtual accounts is just a means of saving themselves from the regulator's wrath when the regulator comes calling as regards to crypto

Funny thing is that the late Billy Graham had a rule never to be alone anywhere with a woman who wasn't his wife. I wonder what our woke people will call him. I call him a

Leading a project. Taught me how to set tasks, define their timelines, check up on team members, help them with blockers whilst making sure I do my work as the lead developer
A wonderful example of succession is the GIG group. The children have transformed the business from just a transport business to a Logistics business with interests in diverse businesses...
@NwokeMpunity
No one said all 1st class graduates become a millionaire; we're only saying that graduating with good grades increases your chances of leaving the trenches
Also you might want to connect your friend to opportunities outside his or her comfort zone
@OneJoblessBoy
And then he sang "Majek Fashek in New York".
One of the very few celebrities that his passing made me cry; I loved the man and could sing a lot of his songs word for word
If they promise you that their webhooks system will go live 2 weeks after you go live; don't believe their lies. Delete the branch that integration was done in & move on
That pricing you see on their website can be negotiated; it all depends on who is making the introductions

This is the first tweet on my TL.
Make I go hustle to answer people like this on the TL when they ask me about this coding thing
@DeReIncarnation
@FirstBankngr
The first ever financial lesson my Dad taught me was to always buy shares of foreign companies not run by Nigerians. Till tomorrow, his shares in Guinness & Nestle foods still pay dividends and increase year after year. Unfortunately, he died 14 years ago
@asemota
My biggest purchase this year was my mattress. It changed everything about how I feel after each sleep
I now buy my underwear exclusively from the US. I saw so much shege buying underwear in Nigeria that I don’t mind the stress of buying from the US
@chendosky
@QuidaxAfrica
Bros; your money never lost. But it'll take some time to be settled into your account. Send a complaint to your service provider with your transaction reference as proof of payment. It will definitely be sorted out
I pray this unlocks another income stream for our actors. Hopefully, big studios would realise that we have people with an authentic African accent that can be used for animations
@Babajiide
I read the my last LIRS tax email to my wife while driving the other day and she got angry on my behalf.
LAWMA hasn't come to my street to pick refuse in 3 months. I have to go to their office and persuade them to come
What a shame
@asemota
Kindly visit the cars section of Nairaland. There are many petrolheads there who would give you tips free of charge.
This is a link to the thread dedicated to Honda cars
@mroluseyecole
Whatever you do, never forget the rings. That's what I always ask my friends for at their wedding (as a former photographer). Oya. Where are the rings? Them dey "lagbaja" hand. Lagbaja bawo? Show me the rings my friend
A thread of some hard lessons I've learnt working with APIs in the Nigerian financial sector
1. Never trust the documentation. That's if it even exists to start with. Make test API calls to the sandbox you're provided with. Trust the responses instead
@StoneAtwine
I have a friend that works with Eversend. He "sold" Eversend to me & I've been a user ever since. He always tells me "Stone no dey too freak about VC funding, so we no dey too hire like that"
@Kolokodess
Na Wednesday be this and I never code this week even though deadlines yapa. Tomorrow now, I go dey run about like headless chicken. God safe me
While more needs to be done about succession planning in Africa, quite a number of "graduates" are realising that their parents's businesses aren't as bad as they thought.
Many of these businesses can be expanded using SM & digital tools
@biodun_codegeek
Bros, enter Iya Biliki shop, collect anything you want; I go pay. The part you didn't mention is peer pressure. "Lagbaja is using iPhone 12 Pro Max & he dey oppress me"
I would not explain a webhook this way though.
A webhook is a notification. It's just like your Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or other notifications
The only difference is that it's sent to a specific URL that you configure instead of a physical device like your phone or browser
A lot of people are ignoring the root problem: peer pressure and get-rich-quick syndrome
Put 10 people in an apartment to learn Tech. Feed them, clothe them; put mentors with them. Then come back after 6months
At least 20% would have dropped off. And that's me being generous
Someone asked for examples of self referencing relationships
Una referral system, the relationship between who was referrer and the referred is self referencing...
Came to me while driving yesterday evening; don't know why I didn't think of it
@simioluwatomi
’s talk on database design and best practices was extremely practical for a personal project I’m working on. I also enjoyed his use of analogies😂!
Thank you Simi!

Was at a pepper sellers stall some days ago. Tell me why someone followed me from the car to the stall while consistently repeating "oga; pounds, dollar, euro; e dey. You wan buy, you wan sell?"
Guy, you sef reason am na; na pepper I come buy
It was a combination of so many factors
1. I was overworked... Didn't go on leave for over 18months
2. I was starting to have panic attacks if my phone rang out. The call could be from a colleague or boss over an issue & some calls came in at odd hours
@bigbrutha_
Nigeria has borrowed to finance a budget that is 60% recurring expenditure. Our borrowing history defies all economic logic. We have borrowed to do anything and everything. Shebi na this +234 Twitter we dey. Just wait and see what happens in the upcoming months
@AdoraNwodo
You forgot the one whose duty it is to remind the groom not to forget wedding ring & Bible and leaves the hotel last when it is confirmed that both items are with the best man or groom when they are on their way to or at the church.
@bigbrovar
These are the nurey, Sienna, Ikenna etc gang. The information I've gotten from the Car Talk section alone will make people think I have used multiple cars in during my lifetime
The southern BMC crew have not dared to touch on the Isa Pantanmi saga since it began. Something else would come up soon and they'll be all out like dogs given bones to eat.
You see, there's a level of cluelessness that can never be defended without looking stupid
@DadaBen_
Caveat; the higher the number of integrations you have; the more float you need to have to keep you liquid.
Ops & finance people who have to maintain float levels don't get enough praise
In fact, the person said all virtual Accounts are not in Providus's core banking systems.
This is true because you can't do a Providus Virtual Account -> Providus Virtual Account transaction as a Providus -> Providus transaction
@novieverest
Every one that does a prolonged work in my apartment gets two bottles of whatever they drink and a meal. My go to is pounded yam + efo euro from the closest buka or eatery.
They do a good job every damn time and don't stop thanking me for the hospitality
