I put in an INSANE amount of work this summer—to teach formal logic, on Zoom, twice a week from 6 to 9 PM mind you—only for a substantial percentage of students to copy and paste proofs from like chat-gpt that look like. this instead of this

iirc Brandom tells this origin story of the department:. in the 60s Pitt wanted to become really good at something on the cheap. they chose philosophy over math because, while mathematicians needed pencils, paper, and a wastebasket, the philosophers only needed pencils and paper.
