I put in an INSANE amount of work this summer—to teach formal logic, on Zoom, twice a week from 6 to 9 PM mind you—only for a substantial percentage of students to copy and paste proofs from like chat-gpt that look like. this instead of this
I don’t like bashing students but the level of like cheating and the complete inability to follow the simplest directions on an assignment in an undergrad course are really discouraging. who failed these kids.

that’s right: I’m going to have the only copy of the first Critique signed by the New York Mets in the entire world #LGM

@NataliaHodgins @JA_Davids Guy paralyzed my arm and gave me lifelong chronic pain, while almost killing me during an op, and had the balls to say “good thing we had you sign those waivers, huh? 😂”!!!!!!.

you know what’s unserious? thinking that *anyone* can read 600 pages with careful and substantive understanding in just a week.
Increasingly feel that anyone not assigning full books is fundamentally unserious and lacks respect for their students. Too much reading? Shut the fuck up and have this 600 page novel read by next week. If that’s too much then the class isn’t for you.

@focusfronting literally my thought too like they spend so much time thinking about being smart instead of being smart.

@VergenceS things haven’t gotten worse since before the pandemic. at least then people were able to write complete sentences.

@_pem_pem “why don’t we take a break” it’s so clearly just a throwaway bit for the writers and I love that for them so much.

I have no time for people who celebrate and envy this attitude. it reeks of unbounded self-importance. “my life and abilities are simply too important to be wasted on trivia”.
Derek Parfit’s daily routine was pretty insane by the looks of it:. (from @DavidEdmonds100’s new book)
