I like to interpret DRY a little abstractly, like "each piece of knowledge should have one canonical representation". As I use it, this allows for some copy-pasta when it's clear what's canon, and reminds me that knowledge is more than just strings.

What’s your most hated programming “best practice”? I absolutely hate DRY. Devs follow it religiously and it leads to unnecessarily abstracted code to avoid copy-pasting a handful of lines
