My non-Jewish friends are always surprised to hear that all U.K. synagogues have security for every Sabbath, every festival, every occasion. Events like today in Halle, this year in San Diego, and last year Pittsburgh show how badly it’s needed.
Today I spent three hours outside my synagogue providing security. It was cold and (save for the excellent company of one of my best friends) a bit boring but tragically it obviously wasn’t a waste of time.

Whatever your politics, it’s a very very sad day when a Jewish MP feels she is no longer welcome in the party she’s called home for 55 years.
EXCLUSIVE: Labour MP Louise Ellman has tonight quit the party after 22 years as an MP and 55 years as a member. She tells The Times she cannot tell her constituents to make Jeremy Corbyn prime minister

@janee Every year, and in previous years we've had more. Where in my local area we used to have 3, we now have 2 & one is on the top of a lamppost to protect from things like this. This is also the first time in my lifetime that I've ever seen any of them damaged or vandalised.

@NathanpmYoung Thank you, Nathan. One option would be the @CST_UK, who will keep us safe during the menorah lighting tonight (and who keep us safe, day in and day out, at Jewish or Jew-ish events). Or @Chabad, who put up the menorah and will put it up *again* today.

Delighted to be joining the @JewishTelegraph as a columnist starting next month to write about all things young, Jewish and (possibly) fun 🔯.
And we're delighted to say that @samanthadmagnus is joining us as a new regular columnist, starting next month!.

@swedenor Please don't let this put you off. This is one person - or a small group. It's not representative of any whole group. I truly believe that the vast majority of people in this country do not support this kind of behaviour. 🫶.

Great piece from @nadhimzahawi in today's @Telegraph: "We should stand up for those that are correctly following the rules. They are the same companies we will need to help fund our recovery when we get through this"

My piece for the @JewishTelegraph this month on conversion 'therapy'. It's time for our Orthodox leaders to step up and call for a ban on this horrific practice.

@sarahsackman @Dannythefink Thank you Sarah - and yes. Our local community has created a whatsapp group to coordinate on this kind of issue - collectively we've reported to CST, the police, Chabad (to get a new one up for tonight's lighting!) & the council.

For a lot of the U.K. Jewish community, Rabbi Sacks felt like *our* Rabbi - whatever Shul we went to. But he touched so many outside of the community with his interfaith work, intellect and goodness. May his memory be a blessing.
Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet. It with the deepest sadness that we regret to inform you that Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (HaRav Ya’akov Zvi ben David Arieh z’’l) passed away early this morning, Saturday 7th November 2020 (Shabbat Kodesh 20th MarCheshvan 5781).

. @facebook it’s taken me approx 3 minutes since finding the first of these posts to find the following 2. I’d keep digging but I’m tired and it should be your job, not mine. When are you going to do more to stop hate speech on your platform?

The first front page splash that I’ve actually written (rather than rubbished, handled or pitched!).
#Manchester, #Leeds, #Liverpool and #Scotland editions' front page:. A Jewish fraternity at the University of St Andrews has suspended two of its members after they were accused of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault.

@TellMamaUK Thank you. It is my firm belief that islamophobia & antisemitism are one common evil and that we must work together to stamp them both out. Appreciate your solidarity on this 🙏❤️.

@KarenPBuckMP Thank you so so much for coming Karen. I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to say it in person - but I know the whole community will have appreciated you being there.

This is the center of Jewish life at my former University, Leeds. Seeing it graffitied in such an obviously antisemitic way is a sign of what Jewish students on campus have always feared: that there is nowhere safe to be a Jewish student.
We are heartbroken and angry that after an uplifting and inspiring Challah Bake, our JSoc Hillel House was defaced with antisemitic graffiti.

Minority groups need to lift each other up, not pull others down. I support BLM wholeheartedly but if we’re going to talk about Israel/Palestine, we need to be able to do so in a way that doesn’t further antisemitic tropes.
As Israel moves forward with the annexation of the West Bank, and mainstream British politics is gagged of the right to critique Zionism, and Israel’s settler colonial pursuits, we loudly and clearly stand beside our Palestinian comrades. FREE PALESTINE.

This is my puppy, Bernie. He’s spent most of the last week being looked after by the amazing team in the @RoyalVetCollege Queen Mother hospital. We told @ButternutBox that we’d need to pause his food & they sent this, which we were hugely touched by. Thank you, Butternut Box ❤️🐾

My @JewishTelegraph column for August. Given we're in GCSE & A-Level results season, I thought I'd write about why more students should consider apprenticeships as an alternative to University. Also includes bitter moans about my year one school report.

Just can't wait to get a copy. Mazel tov @Dannythefink, one of the best writers I know (and a very good friend).
I am pleased to announce that a collection of my writing - columns and features - in @thetimes will be published on August 20th 2020 by @HarperCollins . They’ve done a great job on the cover, too. It is now available to order.

This morning a picture of Kylie Jenner came up on my newsfeed. “Who’s that?” Asked @jaystoll. When pushed, he could say he knew her face from “that Pepsi ad”, but not much more. Wow.

Really poorly judged statement/piece in today's @JewishChron about AEPi. Forgive me not taking lectures about "treating everyone. with respect and dignity" from a group accused of almost 100 counts of sexual assault, including rape (1/2) .

Look mum, I'm famous! Really enjoyed being interviewed by @Maighna_N for @GraziaUK about being married to a lefty (and my early failed attempts to tweet him into a relationship). Read this to answer some of the many FAQs on our cross-party marriage.

Amazing to see @Deliveroo’s “Seder to go” initiative to help Jewish families keep Passover during the lockdown. Such a cool combination between a very modern organisation and a more traditional Jewish establishment @Chabad 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.

My column for the JT this month on Ruth Bader Ginsburg as the ultimate Jewish hero. 🔯💖.
"The legacy she leaves behind will stay with many Jewish men and women for the rest of their lives: but the change she impacted will last, one hopes, for even longer.". @samanthadmagnus on Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

These things are fun and exciting when you’re watching from your office/home. But please remember these are real people with more real people working for them. Be kind.
Worth remembering amid all the fun that each cabinet minister has a team of special advisers who work all hours and don’t know today if they’ll have a job tomorrow. Not so fun for them.

With two of these three papers pictured below now gone, it’s never been more important for the Jewish community that the JT survives. Please buy a paper*.
"Most Jewish newspapers in this country have been fortunate in that their regular losses have been subsidised. The Jewish Telegraph does not enjoy that luxury. We are desperate to survive. ". JT Editor @PaulHarris0161 on the battle to survive:

I have a bad habit of forgetting to share my @JewishTelegraph pieces on here! So belatedly, here's my piece for December - responding to (a small number of) those in our community who think Biden will be a worse President than Trump.

Really welcome this. Our community has been very good at being vocal at our own marginalisation but it’s time for us to match that when it comes to others. Looking forward to seeing what meaningful change will look like.
(1/3) Today we launch the Commission on Racial Inclusivity in the Jewish Community, chaired by eminent journalist Stephen Bush @stephenkb. We recognise that, while the outpouring of solidarity with the Black community from many Jewish institutions has been heartening,

To me, this is a no brainer. Changing “Chairman” to “Chair” may sound like a small thing - but it’ll tell women and girls all over the world that is it is possible. That they these roles can be for them.
#languagematters. This is a simple change which could have huge impact on how women and girls feel about the boardroom and senior positions. @MakeUKCampaigns @The_IoD & @CBItweets agree. Join our campaign to persuade the govt to make this change #BreakTheBias #IWD2022 💜.

@FuriousPiles Classic rabbit behaviour. I once spent £50 buying Charles a toy fort. It had 3 floors and lots of cool windows and doors. He loved it for 3 min then tore it apart (it was made out of cardboard).
