My Dad is a methadone user who broke his hip last night. He is in the hospital and needs his methadone. His pain is intense. He is going through withdrawal. They won't give him his *prescribed* methadone until he sees an addictions team.

When the addictions team meets with him, they will ask him about his entire drug use history, reasons for using, etc. Retraumatizing methadone users, making them jump through hoops like this is discriminatory, cruel abd common. Why are methadone users put through this?

Because the state punishes and dehumanizes drug users. We advocated for him to get more morphine to help with the pain and he's finally received enough, despite his constant requests for more. Receiving care shouldn't be like this.

Vancouver is failing right now. Our political leadership is so scared to *truly* speak out about police violence that they're letting the VPD terrorize the DTES. A man was murdered in cold blood by police this morning. Politicians who stay silent are complicit.

An update: my Dad is out of surgery and feeling better. He got his methadone and is on a more human level of opioids for pain (that still wasn't enough though). The meeting with the pain management addictions team sucked and there have been a # of anti-drug user moments since.

The situation was already tense. To Chase and me, the Ranger meant this: "if you keep saying you don't have the ability to take down your tent, I'll infer you can't take care of your dog and take it away from you." Chase's dog is an emotional support dog.

After being labelled bad parents for wanting the childcare benefit to extend to people on maternity leave I ask myself why are women more valuable as workers, but less valuable as mothers? This is the BCNDP's brand of capitalist friendly feminism- a woman's worth is her income.

WATCH/READ: A Vancouver couple says the B.C. government is taking away a daycare benefit because one of them is on maternity leave. As @MonikaGul reports, the family says they’ll likely have to go into debt to keep their three-year-old in daycare.

Meanwhile, police are literally chasing people off the street, taking their belongings and giving them no shelter. When will @Dave_Eby step in and demand the City of Vancouver place a moratorium on street sweeps? This is a self-made catastrophe that can stop now.

I read the comments sections on the below tweet so you don't have to: It's a collection of anti-Indigenous, anti-unhoused tropes mixed with soccer memes that makes clear how people can approach morality as if they were rooting for their favourite racist football team.

Point out that maybe the Minister of Finance shouldn't bully people online who are pointing out that low income people don't have it as good as her (rich people), then see democracy in action:

The bystander came back and started threatening me for helping this man escape. I left to go find the man and ANOTHER bystander started harassing me saying "thieves deserve to be treated like that." Meanwhile, the chokehold guy started following me up the street.

I went into the Safeway later to talk to management about what responsibility they had. They said that the security guard who held the man down while the bystander choked him is a third party company and, therefore, the store doesn't have a responsibility.

David Eby, despite being blocks away delivering a speech on housing (!), was too scared to show his face/leadership and witness the decampment. Sonia Fourstenau showed up though... 7/

What exactly are these volunteer police surveilling and recording? Also, "community police volunteers" are not the eyes and ears of our community.

All I said was that my Dad was a drug user. The officer then said "you have your kid around your Dad while he's shooting up heroin or whatever." I told him "that's not what I said" and he responded: "In my mind, that's what I heard."

He told me "I know what you look like now. I'll be keeping an eye out for you." He had also found a THIRD bystander to join in, who also began taunting me (and ultimately my wife who had been dropping our daughter off at childcare). At this point, we were in de-escalate mode.

The disruption to Hastings St. has short circuited the drug supply, meaning people can't get their drugs meaning people are dope sick. The mass of police also hinders people's ability to access safe consumption sites. 3/

@ChristinaGower4 @ScottBeaumont95 But he's been taking methadone for years. I don't think that the increased agony my father experienced waiting, or the 1 hour interview while in extreme pain, is ethical and not discriminatory. Especially when coupled with the other comments and discrimination he gets.

Now, that Executive has voted to disqualify a candidate from the leadership race. While some push that it is a democratic entity, I want people to know this: the Provincial Executive has been designed to serve the perceived needs of the Party and the Premier's Office. 5/
