Exactly what George says⬇️. Crazy that the city is now getting into the market development biz in competition with private developers, but without the requirement of any below market housing!!
The @CityofVancouver as a developer? No thanks. This 👇 piece of land is one of the most desirable building sites in the city. The city should lease it for 99 years, take the $50 to $100 million cash and work with social housing developers, lease them smaller parcels of land owned by the city (there are many), and build true social/affordable/co-op/rental housing on those underused, easily and quickly develop-ready pieces of land. We have a funding formula for this already. And it’s much easier to build 50 x 20 unit buildings than one massive one. #vanpoli

@KenSimCity What makes this "middle income"? Why no below market? City has no land cost, so this should be affordable housing, not market. We are building loads of market already.

@LisaDominato But it's market housing. If it's on city land, shouldn't it be the affordable housing we need so bad given the savings in land cost? Why do we need the city to get in on market housing when thousands of new market units are in the works already?

@MAGAVet007 @elonmusk Canada has been attempting to do just that. Promised $1.2 billion spend on border security, but you do know that Canada accounts for just 1% of the drug issue, so it’s not really about that is it.
