I was returning from the Univ to my new residence, a km away. I saw an empty cycle rickshaw coming, I flagged it. As the rickshaw came near, I saw a young woman was the cycle rickshaw puller. I got in. She said, "Uncle, sit properly". And she began cycling. After a while, 1/
"Aap ye rakh lijiye" (Please keep this). She said, "Ji, Abbu". Addressing me as her late father. I was shaken to the core of my being about the poverty and deprivation. I didn't ask her whereabouts because that would have been incorrect. And I didn't hurt her self esteem. /ends

Meesam Zaidi was my student years ago. Maybe, 2009 or earlier. He's 42-43 yrs now. He came to meet me at Chandigarh airport, took me to a place, fed me and we chatted. Picture courtesy: his wife. He said, today's Father's Day and I'm your shagird. I said, yes, with affection.
My PhD notification is out. I'm officially "Dr Roomy" now. My deep gratitude to my supervisor, Prof Mukesh Ranjan Sir and to everyone else who was with me on this journey. And I can now guide PhD students.

We lost Dr Abhay Kumar Shandilya, friend and colleague from Dept of Sanskrit yesterday. Excellent scholar and friend. Would be 5-6 years younger to me, if not more. Such a loss.

Yes. I will keep that in mind. Actually, it might have looked inappropriate if I had asked for her number today. If I see her again and when, I will. Also, I was quite shaken today to respond.
@aswritingsaves
I wanted to ask her whereabouts but it would have seemed inappropriate. As a male, I couldn't have. Also, I saw she wasn't wearing a mask. I am still shaken to the core.

There was no way, Mukul Kesavan would pay anyone undue deference nor would be insolent or haughty. I suspect Mukul would deal with any Heads of State the same way he talked with VC or the lowest official hierarchy person. Not many people do so in the world. /3
There was no way, you could 'Sir' him, much senior on campus. He would communicate with you on equal terms. As Mukul Kesavan did with everyone else, including the toughest VC we ever had, Najeeb Jung, and with Bahadur, the office peon in the Dept of History. /2
