People living with HIV aren’t avoiding treatment because they don’t know where the clinics are. They’re struggling to cope with stigma & discrimination at home, at work, in their communities and at HEALTH FACILITIES. We have to dismantle those barriers before they can trust us.

Had a patient once who came to the dentist. Had a bad reaction to the anesthetic and when we resuscitated him wanted to try to get his tooth pulled again the same day because if he took another sick day off work he might lose his job. Terrifying and traumatic indeed.

The healthcare system is not patient centred. The patient’s voice, their preferences, their wishes are not routinely asked for, valued or central in the process. And as long as it runs on the spirit of paternalism, things will never change.

the legal system is not victim centred. the victim's voice, their stories, wishes are not routinely asked for, valued and central in the process. and as long as it runs on the binary of victim and perpetrator it will never change.
