My first R&R for a solo-authored paper! 🥳 The paper (also my JMP) started out as my QE project, won the best QE award, and gave me many headaches. Now time to polish it further!
Super excited that my paper with Dr. Jaemin Lee got accepted at the Journal of World Trade! It'll take a year to actually see it in print (August 2025), but this is particularly exciting for me, b/c I finally got to use text analysis to write a (part of) paper 📝
This Thursday (Feb 23 5PM PST), I will be presenting a working paper (co-authored with Brandon Kinne), “Causes of Securitization of Trade among the American Public” at the PIPCOSS! - A short 🧵
It’s so exciting to see the final outcome of this massive project. I’m glad that I got to take a part of it as a class project with

@HDaarstad
Our first meta paper is out!! This paper combines our first 110 completed reproductions/replications. This is joint work with 350+ amazing coauthors.

Is it worth paying for Overleaf? I'm making my job talk presentation on Overleaf, and it takes a looooong time to compile. It keeps on suggesting that I get the premium as I've nearly reached the compile time limit 🤨
Finally sold my digital keyboard that I bought at the beginning of my PhD. Everyone told me that having a hobby is important, and I realized that my hobby is not as noble as playing piano
Cleaning my own code from a year ago is giving me mixed feelings. I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve learned so much within a year, but also, what on earth was I thinking back then 😬
Whoever came up with the term “natural experiment” really messed up. All these students calling their class projects a “natural experiment” are making my head spin. Any tips on how to clearly explain what a natural experiment is to undergrads?
The dilemma when it’s the last day of spring break (so you want to enjoy every last bit of it by staying up late), but you also have a morning class the next day.
Of course the management just had to start some big construction work - lots of drilling and hammering - for the neighboring units the day before my comps starts.
It is wild how difficult it is to concentrate during an online talk. Must be something about the digitalized voice.. And yet I watch so much of Netflix and YouTube.
Academic twitter/X, please help!
Has anyone had experience with Lucid? Their ‘redirects’ are not working for me for some reason.. And the PM told me to pay $250 to get their help (which I don’t want to pay for!)

Me: Oh look! Stars! And the coefficients are positive as expected!
My advisor: … Your hypothesis predicts them to be negative.
Me: Wait.. what…?! No.. wait… ohhh..🤦🏻♀️
My advisor: That was motivated reasoning
Why does this matter? Because our findings suggest that if our media keeps on using terms like “trade wars”, it could fire up distrust and suspicion about the liberal economy!
In this project, we explore when is the international trade securitized in the minds of American public. We find that while trade with China is securitized by far the most, even slight treatment of security frame can make Americans be wary of even trade with allies.
