It’s really not difficult to learn that Henry VIII wasn’t seeking a divorce but an annulment and that the subsequent formation of the English church was more complex than simply to create a place where this could be done.
Since there’s discourse about Protestantism being reduced to c. 21 free-church evangelicalism here are some good Protestants from the past and present! Hope this helps any confused tradcaths or orthobros out there !!
Gave a presentation on liturgy today at the parish and a parishioner asked during Q&A: “Can we just go back to the 1662 or the 1928” and WE ARE SO BACK
Was in a cigar shop Friday and the employee asked me: “are you a father”
I wasn’t in a collar and so I wondered how he knew. I said, well I am a priest and he roared laughing and said well yes you are the most important kind of father there is. Then wished me a happy Father’s Day
At the monastery high mass this week a lady came in with 4 kids. One of them, a boy probably 7 years old who remained attentive and focused during the mass. The youngest, a girl probably 1.5 or so got down on both knees before sitting down in the pew.
I was in shambles
Crazy how if you:
Eat healthy
Lift
Avoid radiation from phones and headphones (?)
Use natural products for everything
You still die
Wonder if the online health people have realized this?
I’m seeing discourse.
Here’s what I say:
Cranmer is güd
Anglo-Catholicism is a legitimate part of Anglican identity at this point.
People who like Cranmer and People who like Newman shouldn’t be uncharity with each other, even if they don’t agree.
Ayo I’m BACK
Highlights from the past month-ish:
1. A steak I cooked
2. A selfie from a day a barista asked me if anyone had ever told me that I looked like Liam Hemmsworth (I almost spit my coffee out)
3. Da Church at that sweet golden hour
4. Some coffee I made
Tonight I saw a doe and her fawn. Later I spotted fireflies, something I hadn’t seen for years. It occurred to me that it must be true that God knew how fireflies would make us feel and He said that it was good.
No matter how low you feel, or how little your faith. His lowliness and littleness is for you. There was no room for him at the inn, so that there would always be room for you at his table.
Merry Christmas all
Good Morning and Praise the Lord
Q. What is your only comfort
in life and in death?
A. That I am not my own,1
but belong body and soul,
in life and in death to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.
One Sunday 8 years ago I visited S. John’s Church in Savannah Georgia for sung Morning Prayer. There hasn’t been a year where I haven’t talked about it or thought about it.
Two infant baptisms coming up and an adult baptism right after and I don’t know enough Taylor Swift songs to somehow link the two statements together for clout but needless to say Team JC is really winning rn
If you are in orders, considering orders, laity who are serving the church or considering serving the church:
Read Ecclesiasticus 2. Read it often. When you find yourself discouraged, burnt out, or worried: read it again.
I’ve been trying for years to like the ESV and I think I’ve decided to stop trying. It’s a shame because so many nice formats. But if you want a KJV + apocrypha with references you get only one option. Sad imho
So I guess the solution to the sweet merch shortage in TEC is to just crowd source something. Does the gang want a nice BCP? I’m thinking 79 offices, structured to maximize historic shape of Anglican liturgy.
In the New Testament sense it is not possible either to love one’s neighbour without first loving God, or to love God without then loving one’s neighbour.
- Karl Barth
Then I thought about how cool having kids would be. Taking a youngin to Mass sounds absolutely goated. Ofc kids be kidding. So it’s not always easy. But man what a good thing
Might mess around and add the concluding collect from tonight into our Sunday bulletin on the reg. Absolute banger and TOUGH to see PSA get a shoutout in a collect and the readings. Libs are extremely mad !!
Living in a region with a strong, historic Presbyterian tradition, this (seen on Facebook, from North Carolina) is what I think Presbyterianism should be like: usually, however, it is the generic, transatlantic evangelical style that is now unfortunately predominant.
We had our election of church wardens today, which spurred a memory that until the 1970s, church wardens were elected for St John’s Colden Parva which had been under the sea since the early 17th century.
The Orthodox have neopalamites , the Catholics have Thomists and Scotists, what obscure medieval theological school should we Anglicans adopt? Ockham? Are there any others?
Seeing a lot of “why don’t we fast from x and y sin for Lent”
So uh. Fasting from a sin isn’t a fast.
If food fasting isn’t possible there are disciplines you can take on and other things you can fast from that are legitimate.
This will be a phenomenal course for Anglicans/adjacent folks of all stripes.

I also kind of think it’s weird that a tradition whose most centralizing element is a book wants to elect to effectively destroy that book.
Perhaps an Anglican Breviary style calendar system could help us all celebrate more than one thing on a day so that we don’t have the annual ‘should we celebrate Reformation Day or All Hallows’ discourse
@nassaujuan
Easy: Henry VIII wanted a divorce and hated monks so he personally killed all of them and there were no other reasons for reformation in England at all!
