Fwiw I would’ve preferred Duren to Williams
The Lakers reportedly contacted the Pistons about Jalen Duren before trading for Mark Williams, per @BrettSiegelNBA “Before pulling off a big move for Williams, Pelinka made several calls around the league to inquire about athletic big men with rim-protecting abilities. League sources say Robert Williams, Myles Turner, and Jericho Sims were big men on the Lakers' radar. Although their asking prices were too steep, Los Angeles also inquired about Jakob Poeltl with Toronto and Jalen Duren with Detroit, sources confirmed.” (Via

@advancedstats23 Luka dramatically shifts how this team functions, and while I share the defensive concerns, I think the Lakers have a fairly idealistic offensive structure that can really reduce stops and how a team goes about adjusting throughout any given game

@MrLakeShow I think with a legitimate starting caliber center now, we do have a shot at contending. Far from favorites still, but this does open a window that didn’t exist last week

@MrLakeShow I would’ve preferred to go for a player who already has shown a higher level of defensive aptitude, but I do like that Mark is much younger and on a rookie scale deal still.

@MrLakeShow Irrespective of Charlotte, Mark has never been a great instinctual defender with + awareness. He’s so massive that he can suck up space quick, which gives me hope, but with this current roster I would’ve preferred a higher tier defensive anchor
