A great piece of reporting by @jwsthomson on how noise pollution from tanker traffic is affecting Southern Resident Orcas. The first completed piece funded by @SMCCanada and Sitka Foundation's Messengers of Biodiversity Grant. Looking forward to the rest!

Great piece by @BenParfittCCPA about how the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami led to an energy crunch that spurred Japanese demand for biomass that is now putting the squeeze on BC's primary forests, which are facing a supply crunch and increased demand.

I'm a big fan of @StefanLabbe's forestry reporting. This is a great piece about the timber industry's claims that they can be "heroes" against wildfires. He debunks this as the greenwashing it clearly is. The logging industry is what got us into this mess.

@TimewaveHero Here is the judge's decision an a few different analyses I've read online, although I'm sure they will need to be updated when the judge's final decision comes out.

@TimewaveHero While it's a setback, I am optimistic this will get rectified on appeal to a higher court. And it looks like there will be an award of aboriginal title to some smaller areas, which would be the first time aboriginal title has been granted at the trial level. So that's postive.

@TimewaveHero The judge issued a decision last year that did not award aboriginal title. There were subsequent proceedings in which the Nuchatlaht got to come back and argue for specific areas. We are now waiting for a final decision on those smaller areas. There will likely be an appeal.

Great story by @brennaowen about the paradigm shift underway in forest hydrology. Dr. Younes Alila's research has changed our understanding of how forests regulate groundwater – and how much clearcutting can increase the frequency and magnitude of floods.
