I am the only progressive candidate running for 12th Ward alderperson. As a lifelong Brighton Park resident, I know what our communities need because I have lived it.
This election season we are asking municipal candidates to endorse The Bike Grid. We have 28 endorsements so far, covering 18 wards and 2 mayoral candidates. You can see which candidates have endorsed a safer and better Chicago. Check them out here: 1/
We are excited to receive the endorsement of Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (
@ChuyChicago
). Congressman García has a long history of fighting for our southwest side communities and I am honored to receive his endorsement.
My name is Julia Monique Ramirez and I humbly announce my candidacy for 12th ward Alderwoman!

I'm honored to be endorsed by Cook County Board Commissioner Anthony Quezada (
@AnthonyJQuezada
). We need progressives rooted in community at every level of government. I'm ready to serve in City Council to fight for a ward and a city that allows our communities to thrive.
I am proud to receive the endorsement of our State Rep Theresa Mah
@theresamah4rep
. Rep Mah has been a progressive leader and trailblazer for our communities on the southwest side and at the state level in Springfield. Thank you for your support and trust Rep Mah! 💜

✊Endorsement Alert✊ I am proud to receive SEIU IL State Council's endorsement for 12th ward alderperson. As alderperson, I will work tirelessly to support our front line workers and to protect workers rights.
@seiuilcouncil
To address environmental concerns in our ward, Julia makes it clear: we need to get rid of MAT Asphalt.
“When I’m thinking about our environment, we must have zoning processes to prevent businesses like MAT Asphalt from ever entering our community again.”
Thank you to everyone that came out for our Dia De Los Reyes Magos day of action! We had some fun, cut the Rosca, and got to knock hundreds of doors today letting folks know that we have a chance on Feb 28th to change business as usual in the 12th ward.
Our campaign is committed to accountability and accessibility. We are disappointed, but not surprised, that our opponent is continuing the tactics of Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who appointed her. We will be at both forums in the upcoming weeks.
I knocked on doors in Brighton Park today with Julia
@Ramirezfor12
. Julia is a lifelong SW sider, social worker, & community organizer working to tackle the root causes of poverty & violence. As 12th Ward alderwoman, she'll prioritize working families – not moneyed interests.
There is something special in the air. A time for huge solidarity north to southside. Thankful to be welcomed in the 48th ward and engaging with residents and organizers in conversations about breaking these barriers!
Thank you
@anthonyforcook
for dancing with my mom, for talking to my childhood friend, for the joy and spirit you brought into the room last night.
Thank you
@vickofor15
for being such a fighter, for setting the tone, for letting me join you on this ride!
I am incredibly proud of these two powerful women,
@Ramirezfor12
and
@VickoFor15
. They are modeling the kind of compassionate and thoughtful aldermanic campaigns our neighborhoods deserve.
From the northwest side to the southwest side, people are rising up to fight for justice.
Monday gang back at it again! Kudos to Irakere for doing his first shift with us and then hosting our Meet & Greet! Also, love to
@RyanLents
for being a great walking buddy!
“Our former alderman George Cardenas, who endorsed my opponent, sat on an environmental committee and still took dirty money from Mike Tadin and MAT Asphalt. We can have all the departments in the world, but do they have our best interests in mind?”
We're building a beautiful, people-powered campaign in the 12th ward. Come out to talk to neighbors at the doors, hear about Julia's plans for a thriving ward, phonebank, join a house party, or all of the above. Here is our schedule the next 2 weeks!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to rep the 12th Ward and ask the important questions. Early voting started today, so don’t forget to register if you haven’t, and vote as early as you can!
Happy Election Day! All polling locations in the 12th ward are confirmed open! You can also vote at ANY early voting site in the city--12th ward is at McKinley Park Library. Polls are open until 7pm
On walkability along Archer Avenue: “For way too long, we’ve been prioritizing cars. To build community, our residents must have safe streets and something to walk to. We need to stop building infrastructure that doesn’t lead to anywhere.”
Monday's Meet & Greet was exactly what was needed after a long day at the doors ♥️♥️. The energy, warmth and passion of our ward is like no other. Special shout-out to the McKinley Park Mutual Aid for sharing about all the amazing work they have done. Let's win this!
We are proud to be endorsed by
@conmijente
✊🏽 Mijente knows that building power at the local level is critical to change at the national level and we are proud to be a part of the fight! We commit to bringing community power to the 12th Ward Office.

We need a new system that supports our southwest side schools. In 2025, our schools will be in danger of budget cuts—I will be the advocate for our south side schools in City Hall to get the support they need
We are proud to be endorsed by
@inaaction
✊🏽 Nurses deserve dignified working conditions, support, and living wages. As alderwoman, I will support workers' rights to empower nurses and keep our community healthy and cared for.
As We build out this campaign, endorsements like GIAs keep us grounded and reminded of our Why. In the 12th ward we look to fight against the disenfranchisement of voters and build a ward that gives back political power to its residents! Thank you
@GIAChicago
!
On collaborating with other city council members: “Our issues are not bounded by our wards. By working with other progressive alderpeople, we can make sure City Council starts to actually work for us.”
Great candidate Meet & Greet tonight in Brighton Park. All in Spanish. TY

Get up, Get down! Chicago is a union town! Today I stood in solidarity with
@HBHWorkers
- in order to create caring communities, we must care for and support our workers.
Let the People have a voice!
Excited to be running for the February election! Until then, we'll be engaging voters. Meeting folks where they are at and inspiring 12th residents to vote!
A survey designed to determine what residents of the Southwest Side’s 12th Ward think should be the highest priority for their new alderperson received just 25 responses, records show.
@wttw
On maintaining economic vibrancy in the 12th Ward: “In the 12th Ward, we’ve had politicians decide what we want without asking us. We want to make sure people have OWNERSHIP over their business, and to ensure they have the resources to stay open.”
Julia started organizing at the young age of 18. On public safety: “Public safety is my highest priority. I will make sure our communities have holistic solutions to public safety like youth jobs and expand programs like ONE summer Chicago.”
Our campaign is committed to accountability and accessibility. We are disappointed, but not surprised, that our opponent is continuing the tactics of Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who appointed her. We will be at both forums in the upcoming weeks.
🚨ATTN Southwest Siders🚨 If you live in the 12th, 13th, 14th or 15th Wards,
@swcollectivechi
is hosting an Aldermanic Forum at 7PM tonight at
@CurieHS
. Block Club's

Where to watch:
“Our families were deeply impacted by the pandemic and the issues they were already facing were exacerbated. We met the people where they’re at, which is the most important. That way, if crises like these ever happen again, we’re ready.”
We are excited to be endorsed by Urban Environmentalists! I believe city leadership can and must do more to protect our green spaces and increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users. The southwest side deserves affordable housing and safe public infrastructure.
The 12th Ward Democrats (
@aldcardenas
&
@Anabelfor12
) love to lie to their residents about
@Ramirezfor12
. It's such a pathetic attempt to stoke fear that I know our neighbors will see right through it.
Ryan was the first door I knocked after getting on the ballot! And now he’s out here door knocking for our campaign! ✨✨💜 Love making all of these relationships along the way. Join us:
@RossanaFor33
@VickoFor15
Inspired by both of your relentless fighting spirits to care for people! Thank you for leading the way and creating space for candidates like us! Hasta la Victoria
Loving the people power this Saturday morning! We got volunteers from all over the ward ready to listen and learn from our community at the doors. Join our canvasses here:
Julia plans to continuously engage with residents on-the-ground as an alderperson for the 12th Ward.
“People have felt unheard. It’s about doing more than quarterly open houses at the ward office. In ADDITION to town hall meetings, we will meet people where they’re at.”
Julia’s approach to zoning reform will start with community education:
“Zoning processes are something a lot of people don’t know to participate in. We need to connect people with government and work hard to make sure historically disenfranchised residents are engaged.”
“In fact, there is a forum in February organized by community organizers at Kelly High School. My opponent is choosing not to attend. I call on Anabel Abarca to attend this forum so community members can hear from her within the ward.”
“Too often, council members are career politicians and not community advocates. Let’s get rid of the old and start with the new — it’s about having a collective vision not of what we haven’t been able to do, but instead a vision of what we can achieve if we work together.”
I mourn for Tyre Nichols, his family & the lives taken from us by state sanctioned violence. Too many times we’ve witnessed the violence perpetrated by police w/o justice. We must hold our systems accountable for the trauma & harm they cause our communities
#JusticeforTyreNichols
The family of 15-year-old Brandon Perez, 1 of 2 students killed Fri. outside Juarez HS, needs our love and support: "No person of Brandon's age should ever be taken away from their mother, father, family, and friends..."
Neighbors of the 12th ward deserve strong leadership! Supporting small businesses and expanding opportunities for startups and entrepreneurs is critical to growing our local economy
Hey y'all, been a crazy few wks but I am excited to share that my partner & I are going to host a little fundraiser/HP for

Everyone deserves access to high quality education. We must invest in our youth, our neighborhood schools, and offer more adult ed resources opportunities locally. Read more about Julia's plan for a robust 12th ward here:
Julia knows the issue of public safety extends far beyond funneling our budget into the police. “We need to make sure the money we’re pouring into CPD actually works for us and reevaluate how those resources are used.”
