Linux when? Linux now. 🎉🐧
For the last 6 months, our team and our open source community have been working hard to bring Zed to Linux.
As of today, we've released our first, official, stable build of Zed on Linux!
> come out as a trans woman
> immediately become twitter’s main character for the day
> for being upset about being compared negatively to nazis
Sometimes I really fucking hate everything.
This is the empire that shaped the west, whose symbols we still use and whose ideology is baked into every part of european culture. A despicable slave empire whose descendants went on to spread to every corner of the globe.
Ancient Roman slavery is fascinating because it's so, so bad, but also utterly blasé in execution. You're talking about an unqualified meat grinder and they basically didn't think it was a big deal at all. It was very nearly pet logic.
@zachcaceres
@mattparlmer
not a single bit. This state of affairs is only possible because of a massive and continual infrastructure program combined with zoning laws which make any other form of transit impossible to do efficiently. This is an artifact of state power.
@laplacetransgrl
@CamelSpyd3r
@keffals
it’s not exactly a direct declaration of violence, it’s ‘just’ a total denial of our existence and an explicit ban on acknowledging our existence in any way.
@mycoliza
@nativejacklang
IMO, the inability to trust its answers combined with the massive hand holding it needs makes me just prefer to do it all myself.
@AnaMardoll
While I'm on one, here are more members of the Sandra Newmann circle joining in today, retweeter is one of her co-authors. Funny that they call your exhaustive and grueling work 'cherry picked', when you literally cross reference the whole book together.
It’s interesting reading SCP foundation articles now that i’m an anarchist. It’s like the ultimate fantasy of statism, of the immense, brutal, bureaucracies of violence, legibilizing the unimaginable at gunpoint.
@elsecaller_
There are other reasons it’s good for to (inspiration, new art forms, etc.) and some things it’s really bad at (continuity, specificity, meaning) but being able to just make dreams visible with no effort is an incredible expansion of human potential.
@JeremiahDJohns
Because they all centralize the cost of bandwidth and our networks are poorly organized. Torrent style downloading is mathematically, vastly more effective at moving bits through a crowd. But you can’t lock that content down in IP and it’s been pushed to the margins.
Network is potentially unlimited in size.
deeply buried servers
"... there will be hundreds of millions of simultaneous users, able to read from billions of stored documents... either you see it or you don't."
@visakanv
Arab Spring, Syrian Civil War, BLM @ Ferguson, Units the Right, Trump’s election, Obama’s election, Brexit….
Can’t think of anything properly global though.
@rechelon
The 'control == love' lie is so devastating and omnipresent. Reading 'The Dawn of Everything' and how he traced it back to the Roman (slave) family was just.... ugh.
@faecuddlebug
Competing directly with other women is always gonna fuck you up, because of the implied linearity of desirability. If desires could be mapped onto one specific, universal form, then we would be screwed. But all evidence points to the contrary
This is the surest sign of the collapse of trust in the police. When even the fucking cops realize that no one takes them seriously and they need to try to convince people that they’re still dangerous.
While the anti-LGBTQ crowd tends to be older with the exception of the Patriot Front members, the pro-LGBTQ crowd has a wide range of age representation.
@mycoliza
Calling them weird also normalizes the democrat coalition, particularly queer people, and I think that’s generally a good thing. And frankly, we should be othering and suppressing these people, they’re cruel and awful.
A lot of people are incredulous to this, because leftists have absorbed years of MRA propaganda that "family court is biased against fathers". The reality is the complete opposite: the family courts are a protection racket for men who abuse their wives and children.
MrBeast is such a strange phenomenon. Like this is genuinely an incredible act of generosity, and the fact that he can recoup his investment by telling us about it is great! He can do it more!!
here's a 10-minute attempt to summarize my 300 page book
@introspectVV
into ~500 words. didn't precisely meet the brief of "in one breath" but i'll try again multiple times
*Maximizing power* is such an important reframing of how capitalism functions. It frees you from constant debates over basic economic principles while simultaneously revealing the rot at the core of the systems we live under. When I say I'm anti capitalist, *this* is what I mean.
-- there is a very important degree to which point of capitalist competition is about maximizing *power* not maximizing "profit" (in the abstract economic sense of net pro-social value). Better to be king of a small pond, even if that means draining the ocean to a pond.
Red flag laws allow us to take action when someone who has a gun begins to act erratically.
Red flag laws still require due process, and any removal of weapons is temporary.
I think patriarchy (understood as rule-by-father) is so resilient because it promises *everyone* (except the slave) a piece of the pie. Stay in your lane, and you too will have power over someone, someday. only children are disenfranchised, until they grow out of it.
@faecuddlebug
And because of that particularity of desire, that every man is different and desires different things, the goal is to find men who desire you, because it’s you. Being more flagrantly yourself is the only way to find and attract those kinds of people
This thread is such an excellent example of how large corporations make their money by enclosing the commons. They inject massive inefficiencies into the world and then feed off of the waste.
There's a difference between a con-artist and a grifter. A con-artist is just a gabby mugger, and when they vanish with your money, you know you've been robbed.

I’ve finally learned the trick of walking in heels:
Don’t!
Heels are for 3 things: sitting and looking pretty, being driven places, and dancing. All other uses are discouraged.
Holy _fuck_. Russians are kidnapping and conscripting desperate people en-masse across multiple countries. MASS KIDNAPPING AND CONSCRIPTION. FOR RUSSIA. what the absolute fuck.
Incredible story in Le Monde about Indians who thought they had accepted a job offer in Dubai and instead were forcibly recruited into the Russian army and sent to the frontlines
Something that always strikes me about copganda is how little responsibility they take for *anything* that happens. Their example of being attacked *literally shows them pointing riot control weapons at people*.
@judgementshae
I’ve had some mild existential crises over the potential culture changes to our communities if we win. Adult transitioners (like me) will become super rare.
@fasterthanlime
What? It’s the opposite. It was only possible to find this _because_ there are enough eyeballs. Open source is not a solution to security, it’s a weapon.

I think our partners can tell somehow, something about boymoding just screams girl to them. I had an ex tell me she felt like a lesbian for our relationship (while both of us still thought I was a guy)
I think it is extremely cool that the internet has shattered age segregation to the point where old people can participate in 'youth culture' 😄 end the arbitrary calcification of generations, fuck time and aging 😤😤😤
@AnaMardoll
Apparently this thread has become 'archiving everyone who participates'. Here's a blog post from lithub that makes the compelling case that 'This decision by Lambda Literary is nothing more than the worst kind of “guilt by association.” And it is bad.'
I'm loving the fact that there's massive religion discourse in radical spaces rn. I've long wished there was a mass, militant will to fight against cultists of all stripes.
@not_a_hot_girl
y e s. And further, sometimes depression can be *induced* by a life that saps you of your agency and joy, or even just by normal life events like death and breakups.
Yesterday on the YouTube channel Timcast, Terry Schilling said that "transgenderism is the precursor to transhumanism" and that trans people have separated our souls from our body, "and that's called death." When will the NYTimes stop considering this guy a credible source?
BREAKING: President Biden will sign an Executive Order that will allow the U.S. Government to deny asylum and deport immigrants who cross the border illegally. Reminder, Republicans voted against the toughest border security legislation in decades.
@maidensblade
Right??? this kat discourse makes no sense. Everyone’s acting she violated consent or something when all she did was say ‘we sexted a bit, here’s our discourse convo, he sucked at it’. Incredibly normal shit.
The fact that the rust project has cultivated a space where *every* person involved has to live in an aura of fear around every word, just in case someone will go and make it everyone's problem *is the whole problem*.
@NonMurkyConsqnc
@Nizzybean
we’ve been trying to figure that out for a while. Attrition is a beast and we don’t know how to care properly for each other or maintain a coherent focus.
san francisco is 46 square miles and has 398,000 homes. paris france is 40 square miles and has 1,390,0000 homes
its not only serious, its flat out possible
But today, in 2023, the game has changed. The rust community spans from major companies to so many trans girls that it's a meme in our spaces. Treating all of these people as a threat, as an angry mob about to tear you down, isn't just disrespectful
This is where I've been working for the last year and a half! We're building the best collaborative coding platform in the industry, and we just fully open sourced our code editor and server :D
Zed is now open source!
Our mission is to revolutionize developer collaboration, building the world's best code editor in the process. After working together in Zed as a small team, it's time to scale up to transform Zed into a collaboration platform.
