I was doing some research for a lecture I'm putting together and TIL that these may be the first ever drawings of #neurons by Otto Deiters published posthumously c1865 . Anyone know of drawings that pre-date these? #neuroscience #history

An important point that I brush up against often: you can't understand the exact storytelling you want to do until you start exploring it in 3d. I try to use phases of development storyboard > animatic > render, but have started to see them as components that progress in parallel
Instead of using storyboards, I design the scenes directly in 3d. This is necessery because of the long shots where the camera is moving a lot. I explore a rough version of the set with a virtual camera, often finding unxpected discoveries, almost like on a live-action film set.

@manorlaboratory Lucky for us that most of the scientific literature from the past century along with all of the code on github was all written for AI unintentionally.

Ever noticed that mixing colors digitally doesn't behave as you'd expect? Check out this new color mixing solutions to approach how pigments are mixed. In python / matplotlib (and many other languages). Too cool, this type of stuff is why I still come here.

Happy New Year everyone! Here's a mashup of some of my favorite clips from this year, set to old-timey ragtime piano. I hope you enjoy having this song stuck in your head as much as I do. #SciVis

Great thread on developments in #connectomics using expansion microscopy with self-proofreading technology:
E11 Bio is excited to share a major step towards brain mapping at 100x lower cost, making whole-brain connectomics at human & mouse scale feasible (🧠→🔬→💻). Critical for curing brain disorders, building human-like AI systems, and even simulating human brains. 1/N 🧵
