@KCOA_Official
Delayed posting of Clinical Officer Interns has subjected many patients to untold suffering. These interns are critical in filter clinics and inpatient management of patients. They also ensure proper and timely follow up of patients thereby increasing positive patients outcomes.
Health is no longer an essential service in Kenya. When the government found itself short of resources to pay salaries, they only paid teachers, police and disciplined forces. Indirect privatization of healthcare is on course (I'll share more about this later).
The joint health Unions have today addressed the media rejecting extension of contracts for UHC and demanded for PnP terms going forward. We shall hold a procession next week to Harambe house, Parliament and MOH to present petitions. We shall advise our members on the day.
It's sad to see what our brothers and sisters are going through despite working under a very challenging environment. Mental health problems arise from such man made frustrations. Sad!
@Nakhumicha_S
these health workers are calling on you to intervene
@MOH_Kenya
Extending the term of UHC health workers under same terms for 3 years is utter unappreciation and contempt to their hardwork and sacrifices during Covid-19 scourge. We shall continue demanding for PnP terms, parity of treatment is not a privilege.
@KenyaGovernors
@MOH_Kenya
Good morning Clinical Officer Interns. We are following up on your delayed posting and will ensure it's done promptly. We understand your frustration.

Why do we always have to pressurize government so it can do it's duty.
The government doesn't seem to prioritize health as a matter of national interest
I condemn the heinous act visited upon
@kmpdu

@Davji
during interns demonstrations in the strongest terms possible. I see this as profiling and targeting Unionists to mute their voice. We shall not be cowed! We shall stand against unfair Labour practices.

Dear Governors
@KenyaGovernors
. The President has informed us that there is 50 billion lying idle in CBK because you are unable to utilize. I have a great idea; let's employ more Clinical Officers and other health workers to meet
@WHO
standards. Thank me later!
Unions are meant to entrench democracy at workplace. They provide a platform where workers can participate in their own management.
We are against extending UHC contracts under the same terms for another 2 years.

has been following on the posting of interns since Dec 2022. Yesterday, we met PS
@DrJ_Mburu
for a consultantive meeting on the same. The ministry will give feedback in a week's time. We must always demand fairness in both posting and pay.
@Nakhumicha_S
We are deeply concerned by the appointments done by CS
@MOH_Kenya
yesterday which portray MoH as an exclusive club. There was no competitive and transparent process used & one Cadre has dominated in a ministry with more than 20 cadres. Not just! Discriminatory! Unfortunate!
Mental health cases currently bedevilling health workers are caused by insensitivity and unresponsiveness by
@MOH_Kenya
and
@KenyaGovernors
. There is need to ensure prioritization of health workers' welfare. UHC staff and Interns do not have to demonstrate to get basic info.
In 2013, the CS for health signed a commitment note in WHO HRH conference to recruit 12,000 health workers annually to address staff shortage. A decade later, we haven't even employed 12,000 in 10 years.
@MOH_Kenya
and
@KenyaGovernors
please do the right thing
@Nakhumicha_S
We have been asking
@MOH_Kenya
to establish a policy framework to guide on annual employment of healthcare workers. For example, the country produces about 3000 Clinical Officers per year but has employed less than 3000 in the last decade

DELAYED POSTING
The delays in internship posting started in 2021 when the graduates from KMTC doubled and thereby exceeded the available internship establishment in Ministry of Health. This led to spill over into 2022 as they awaited expansion of establishment.
INTERNSHIP
Internship is a 1 year compulsory hands-on training for qualified Clinical Officers and 6 months hands-on training on completion of Higher Diploma in various specialties, which is a legal requirement to practice after graduation from an approved training institution.
Glad to join this power panel tomorrow morning. UHC achievement starts and ends with getting it right with health workforce from internship through practice and specialization.
Any soldier knows and appreciates that they may one day die in war but few ever imagine death would come while in pursuit of Peace and socioeconomic development.. Rest well General, may your ultimate price be and that of your colleagues be the last one to usher in lasting peace.
Had an opportunity to inteact with colleagues Lao, Sadia and Shukri working in Moyale subcounty hospital in Marsabit. It is humbling to see colleagues braving hostile conditions to assure health to a poor and marginalized community.
Just concluded a 2 day workshop on harmonization of Clinical Officers Profession across Eastern Africa and focussing on common curriculum, regulations and nomenclature. We are committed to enhancement of labour mobility across EAC to increase employment and business opportunities
Our public hospitals are severely understaffed. The skeleton staff available can barely manage to offer basic health service and care, with the ever increasing clientele whose entire hope and financial capacity limit them to these facilities.

Clinical Officers have been on strike for the past 90 days yet the President has never even commented. Kenyans feel the government doesn't care about them

Is Kenya broke or are we being managed for a few to siphon billions and then learn about the scandal later? Kenyans are back to work and taxes have been hiked, there is no way the economy can be worse than during Covid-19. Smells fishy!

Radical measures should be taken regarding management of health service. A time must come when we ask whether it is really working. Our county facilities are just shells of health facilities, no drugs,health workers have gone without pay for months

It's a tough time being in civil service . Cost of living keeps rising as inflation deepens. While
@srckenya
is increasing state officers perks, it is either declining any salary enhancement or even recommending removal of some allowances. Industrial actions beconing
Health Act provided for a KHHRAC which has the mandate to plan and effectively manage internship. It has never been operationallized since 2017 leading to annual internship placement challenges.
@Nakhumicha_S
@MOH_Kenya
it's time to sort this once and for all.
No Gov. Muthomi, health workers and teachers don't suffer same problems. Teachers are employed annually, health workers are not; health workers are engaged in abusive contracts earning half pay, not so with teachers. Health workers push for better terms is bastardized
Muthomi Njuki: Health workers are facing the same problems that teachers are facing. It is a general unemployment problem because we have not been able to create systems that can be able to absorb people as fast as possible

I wonder. Plus;
1. Delay in resolving Clinical Officers strike which is on day 86 today.
2. Neglecting interns for months
3. Refusing to honour agreement on enhancement of risk allowance
4. Engaging Clinical Officers on discriminatory contracts.
It is extremely mental how the people in power demand that we must love them for:
1. Not Implementing the Drs’ CBA/posting interns.
2. Not paying JSS teachers.
3. Increasing University fees for the poor.
4. Exporting youth abroad for slavery jobs.
5. Showing lavish opulence

. We discussed many issues concerning partnership between NHIF and Clinical Officers in realization of UHC.
Following a series of lengthy meetings discussing the limitations by NHIF on our members an amicable solution was reached and the strike called off.
NHIF should work together with health workers to better services to Kenyans but not limit wanjiku from the same.

Yesterday, the 6th day of January 2024, an icon was laid to rest. Mr.Jacob Kisang Kilimo, HSC Clinical Officer 001 is a testament and an example of how one person can change the world.
A man who was greatly respected in the region, a society leader and a great mentor.

The role of Church and Clergy in our society is undoubtedly remarkable, especially in the provision of safe space for dispute resolution. Thank you Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit for taking it upon himself to lead the clergy in finding solutions to the health crisis.
