I want to cry every time one of my patients is denied knee/hip replacement because of their weight. Happens daily around here. Some are even told to have bariatric surgery before orthopedic surgery. Makes no sense.

The other day I got to sit and watch while another provider yelled at a patient because said patient sometimes forgets to take meds. We have to do better. I apologized to patient later and helped them tackle the issues.

Can honestly say I have never been able to directly trace a hospital diet to the need for insulin long term. There are many reasons that hospital food is the way it is. I suggest you offer your assistance in feeding sick patients on the typical food service budget.
