My son graduated from high school yesterday. Not only am I so proud of him, I feel lucky and blessed.
Not every parent gets to see their child graduate from high school and go to college, and especially not every parent of a Black male.
As a young attending physician I used to shy away from wearing colorful outfits to work. Not anymore!
Stepping out in color, ready to handle the challenges of the day!
I am excited to announce that I will be the new Physician-Chief of Student Medicine

Today's my birthday! It's been a year of transitions, a year of exceptional highs and lows for this libra ♎️ ⚖️ !
But the overall sentiment that I have today is gratitude: grateful for another year under the sun, for my family and friends. The best is yet to come.

Got to work yesterday morning & my boss, who is a white male physician, had left this book as a gift on my computer.
I am the only AA woman physician in my practice. I was touched!
In 1864

became the 1st AA woman physician in the US & wrote this book in 1895.
Yale Health is thrilled to welcome Dr. Philomena Asante, MD, MPH (

Thrilled to share my 2nd "Diversity In Medicine" blog on

Just thinking about the profound effect my premed advisor's words had on me
@Harvard

Asked my neighbor if I could pick a few branches of her Magnolia trees and nearby bushes for my Easter table. She said yes and voila here's my Easter table centerpiece. Cost: $0.

It took me 3 hours last night between 10 pm & 1 am to put up my Christmas tree(Please clap! 😆). In the midst of all of the chaos in the world, I am determined to remain positive & keep doing things that bring me

during the holidays. Each ornament brings up a special memory!
During my freshman year in college I realized all my dormmates had never seen the sun rise! So I organized a "sunrise trip" at the footbridge of the Charles River. It was magical!
The sun will rise everyday even if you can't see it! Today 3/5/23, I'm making sure you can see it!
My greatest accomplishment of 2022:
Raising a child who successfully graduated high school, entered and successfully completed his first semester of college, happy, confident & well-adjusted.

Just. Hold. On.
I promise you that it's worth it!
Just hanging out with mom on Christmas eve. She's 88, a former nurse midwife & army captain, seamstress & entrepreneur. She owned her own clothing store aptly called "Asante's Boutique." Most importantly, she gave her children love & taught us to believe in ourselves!

decision was expected, but it was still a tremendous blow. I was trying to find the words to describe how I felt but couldn't. Thanks
@MichelleObama
for your words. Sometimes it's better to be quiet & let your elders speak. Today we press on.
I went to the garden center last night, and these poor blue hydrangeas were calling my name. So I did what any self-respecting hydrangea-lover would do--placed them in a cart, and brought them home to a well-loved garden.

To help neutralize bias in the residency selection & interview process, use a structured interviews & ask the same questions in the same order to each candidate. Free flowing conversations can be alienating to applicants from backgrounds that differ from the interviewers.

During the brief respite from the rain today, I created a few "harvest" bouquets from plants harvested in my garden. The garden never fails to lift up my mood. Hope these pictures do the same for you.

It's the middle of winter and I'm missing my flower garden! Here are a few floral arrangements I did from last year's blooms. Can't wait to create more bouquets in 2024!
In the middle of the winter, these are the gardening days that I dream of. I am so proud of these perennial flowers for giving me their best show!

It's the end of September and my dahlias and zinnias are just now in peak bloom. Sometimes the best things in life come at the end of a season of growth. Gardening brings me joy.

I love good before & after pics, don't you? Last fall, I got rid of the grass in my front garden in preparation for flowers this spring. The top pic is that brown patch today. And I'm not done yet transforming this 8-year abandoned 19th century farm!
