How did Telugus manage such a long painful journey to the city of light? By storytelling. kāśī majilī kathalu(stories of halts en route to kāśī) are such story chains people used to share among themselves to forget the exhaustion of walking. These are very famous even today

The art of Avadhaana is quite exquisite and is truly one of the greatest measures of one's literary acumen, genius, focus, and memory power. Here, this Samskrutam scholar poses a unique challenge to Sahasraavadhaani Sri Madugula Nagaphani Sharma to use the popular Hindi song

Greatness of a Telugu padyam. When a singer sings it, it becomes a kīrtanā. When a vedamantrapāṭhī utters it, it sounds like a mantra. When a village man hums it, it becomes a song. When a drama artist performs it, it becomes a part in an act. Its abt how you see the rhythm.

Lyrics below are actually reappropriated from basavapurāṇamu, a 13th century shaiva magum opus by pālkuriki somanātha kavi. There is a saying that unless its not poured from a śaṅkha(conch),its not tīrtham. Likewise, unless its not from a movie, its not worthy for Telugus.

Happy caitra pūrṇimā! On this day, people celebrate hanumān jayantī at some places and perform hanumatpūjā. May hanuman bless us with prosperity and give strength to uplift dharma. (Verse from my sahāyavalli. Loosely translated.)

The origin story is this: A scholar named maṇisiddha wanted to go to kāśī. But no one wanted to join as it was lengthy and no facilities were there. Then he finds koṭappa,an orphan cowherd near śrīraṃgapura. He agrees to come on a condition that he shouldnt feel any fatigue.

Weekend read. Remeber finding it a while ago, now reading it with fresh mind. This work, which aims to introduce Indian culture, takes a different approach at it, which I liked. It starts defining basic tenets viz dharma, karma, vigrahArAdhana, bhakti, dAmpatya etc which+

This sage, who could cure diseases and calamities by uttering a Vedic mantra and a poet of par excellence, is from Andhra. He was greatly respected and known in TN, gokarNa, kharagpur all over India except in Andhra. The irony.

Remarkable essay by @WorldMisfit .

We lost this style of chain handwriting in Telugu. I have seen this style all over in older hand written notes of scholars belonging to a couple of centuries ago, including my great grandfather. The strokes are absolutely beautiful. కరక్కాయ/myrobalan black ink was used then.

How many of us know that there is an authoress who published a harikatha on Ramayana 400+ pages? Her pen name is శ్రీరామపుత్రి (Daughter of Sri Rama). She never mentioned her real name in this work even at the end of chapters where writers usually do.

Someone should do a research on women's writings on Ramayana in Telugu. No, I am not talking about retelling or telling with just slightly changed format. Works that belong to different art forms, on Ramayana, written by women. In Telugu. These are many. Mind blowing stuff.

While someone performing Indian classical dance and her aura gets noticed instead of her hāva, bhāva, mudra, līnatā etc even to a point where viewers say "OMG, I am screaming, she is a freaking goddess" then we can conclude for sure that its not at all the Indian classical art.

Agreeing to that maṇisiddha tells so many stories with sub plots, twists and turns. madhira subbanna dīkṣitulu published these stories in 12 volumes. First print was out in 1926. His son finished last parts. Yes, there are that many stories!
