John Humphrys retires after an unrivalled career. When I was a student he told me never to aim to be a ”presenter”. That was in 2014. This month I’m marking 2 years doing the best job ever, hosting breakfast on local radio (

). To all hopefuls: work hard & go for it!
Your new

committees - congrats to all. Jobs for both Alderney reps, but last term's P&R President (Chief Minister) and Vice President have no committee roles at all. Every Presidency changes hands. 8 men as Presidents, 4 women. Enthusiasm from newbies. Now it all begins.
I met Paddy Ashdown once, in 2014.
He said “the great challenge is whether a tolerant, international and outwardly-engaged Britain can survive. Or is it going to become inwardly-looking and isolationist? Is it going to turn in on itself?”
Insightful, principled, committed.
The Guernsey Arts Commission and ESC are working together to make a record of the pebble towers which lined the island during lockdown, but your help is needed. If you have pictures or videos of the towers, please post them on social with

Some people are awesome. 14 year-old Holly has just had her hair shaved off for Cancer Research
@CR_UK
and she's smashed her fundraising target. The best bit? When she looked in the mirror I asked her what she thought. She said "it looks kind of cool!" 👏😎
Happy

Guernsey. Today's the day when just about everybody seems to put the radio on... from here and far, far away. Do tune for a little bit of 'home' with

Morning - a sad day for

, its staff & customers. Obviously a concern for us in Guernsey & across the Channel Islands. Please follow this thread for updates throughout the morning. First, here's a link to our live breakfast programme on

An interview between Phillip Schofield and Amol Rajan will be available to watch on BBC News and as an episode on iPlayer from tomorrow morning, the BBC says.
A first: a personal note! A year ago I joined
@thegtta
& last night at the annual hard bat tournament it went very well 😊🏓 I love Guernsey’s community.. despite the housing laws here which mean we non-locals have to leave after 5 years 🤔❤️🇬🇬 It’s great when things go well!
Always inspired by everyone doing charity fundraisers. This weekend a group of us are going to the Arctic Circle for a while to raise money for
@CombatStress
. Any pennies or pounds will go a long way ✌️
By the way,
@stellacreasy
has been talking publicly about the need to address harassment since 2013 (and probably before). Is the media only just starting to listen?
Has
@UKLabour
shot itself in the foot by staying put on a second referendum? If you’re a remainer, you can vote Lib Dem. Leaver - then it’s the Tories or the Brexit Party. Why would anyone vote for a party that wants another vote when you could simply solve it in one? 🤔🗳
2 months ago Emma Raducanu didn’t even rank in Britain’s top 10.. No matter the result tonight she’s the number 1️⃣
Just hope she can block out all the media interest/scrutiny and enjoy the night

Why is the (collective) media consistently introducing their coverage of the racist abuse directed at Rashford/Sancho/Saka by saying “after missing their Euro 2020 penalties…” as if to explain/justify why the abhorrent messages are being sent to them? Genuine question.
Exactly 9 years ago - in November 2013 -

Today: ‘Royal Mail to stop Saturday deliveries’
Common but still extraordinary to see this kind of analysis from those once in high office. It's commentary on "behind the scenes" ongoings which they would never share when captaining the ship themselves. Hope you understand my point & this doesn't come across as inconsiderate.
This statement - notably unattributed to any political spokesperson - has the look and feel of staff tearing hair out, trying to sweep up after the chaos created by treasury lead and reconcile as positions as somehow coherent. I feel for them.
Watching the

Ok but maybe half a point would have been more appropriate (does TS ever give out half-points?) If you're up for chatting about this on
@BBCGuernsey
then let me know: a Sark football match is big Bailiwick news - considering what else makes the headlines here...
