Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance and we pray for all people who are ill at ease with their gender, seek to change it, suffer for it and have been persecuted, and also killed. All people are loved by God and valued in their inherent God-given dignity.

It's very clear that, following official advice and in order to keep each other safe, save lives and support the NHS, at this time we must not gather for public acts of worship in our churches. This will begin from Friday evening, 20 March 2020, until further notice. 2/5

We celebrate today Christ's ascension to his eternal glory in heaven and express our Christian hope that where he, our Head, has gone before us, his Body, we will one day follow, to live for ever in the Kingdom of our Father

The announcement of a new ‘national lockdown’ in England will, we know, bring hardship, distress and suffering to many. We must hope and pray that this is an effective strategy against a growing pandemic.

On 4 May 1535 in London, there died three Carthusian monks, the first of martyrs of the English Reformation. Of these martyrs, forty-two have been canonised, and a further 242 have been declared Blessed. The true number of those who died for their faith cannot now be reckoned.

Looking back to Christmas Eve when priests and volunteers from the Polish community helped 1000s of truckers parked at Manston Airport unable to cross into France. Some drivers faced Christmas in their cabs. Catholic priests provided confessions, blessings and pastoral care.

Anthony was an Augustinian monk, but he became a Franciscan friar so that he could preach the gospel in Africa. His preaching career later took him to Italy and France. His shrine is a centre of pilgrimage, and he is also the patron saint of the lost and found.
