Um…no. I lived in Highland Park from 2017-2018. I did see gentrification occurring rapidly- not because of a light rail station but a continuously constrained housing supply.

I have had enough with bike education campaigns. Cyclists are maimed and killed because our streets are designed for fast moving vehicle traffic, simple as that.
In addition to the sign installation, OakDOT will be working with city and community leaders to share bicyclist safety education videos directed at both drivers and bicyclists, available in English () and in Spanish ().

A lack of housing = a lack of affordable housing. When there isn’t enough for everyone, those with more money will be able to access it and those who do not are left behind. The constrained housing market drives up prices, and only the more affluent win.

The median home price where I live is $1M. Those who bike are majority students and those who cannot afford a car. Occasionally I see a recreational biker, but of course they deserve safety too.
It's well known that in many cities, bike lanes are associated w gentrification. That doesn't mean they are intrinsically bad. I think they're good. It simply means that their specific social and economic meaning .... DEPENDS ON CONTEXT.

I live in Berkeley, which is very walkable, but I don’t live right by a grocery store or next to other amenities. Next time I move these are a priority. Cleveland has some cool older walkable neighborhoods, not surprising Lakewood has become popular in recent years

This is gentrification. Reinvesting in properties, upgrading them, and raising the rents - all without increasing the housing supply. When enough housing isn’t built, those who have more $ will always be able to access it first, displacing those who don’t.

This happened right in front of my apartment, I saw the direct aftermath out of my window. The impact was so loud it sounded like the driver collided with another car.

Point is, a lack of housing creates a lack of options for those who want it, and especially for those who need it. Blaming infrastructure projects for gentrification is not effective, as communities can be both to be improved and densified to avoid displacement.

I was so broke at the time- my apartment was $450 a month and rent controlled. My roommate kept the place filthy dirty - a terrible living situation. But I loved living next to York because it was walkable, one of the few areas in LA that is.
