In church attendance, I’m in a tough spot. I have been attending an ACC parish for some time, but I feel the need to serve the ACNA to help it grow into orthodoxy. There’s a MDAS parish not terribly far from me but further than the ACC parish. I ask for discernment prayers.

Part of me wants to just drop the Anglo-Catholic label due to the connotations. Yes, I adhere to sola fide and sola scriptura (not solo scriptura btw). The Anglo-Catholic label seems to tell people I don’t adhere to those. But yet I also believe chasubles and chanting are good.
Though I’m in the ACC, I wonder if I’m an actual Anglo-Catholic or just an old high churchman with some Anglo-Catholic touches. Part of this comes from my preference for the REC

Anglicanism could’ve become Presbyterian or Presbyterian-adjacent. But St. Charles died for the Apostolic Faith. Laudians were vindicated, and the Anglican Church solidified itself as an Apostolic Church, both Reformed and Catholic.

I do sympathize with Martin Luther more than John Calvin generally, but I will say that Calvin asked for bishops in Geneva from England at the end of his life, which implies that he saw an importance in the episcopacy. That’s something he has over Luther.

Probably the Anglican liturgical calendar. The 1928 one is probably the best but it still isn’t perfect in that it omits saints past the Apostles. The ACC calendar has jesuits on it for some reason, and the ACNA calendar has heretics like MLK

I think it says a lot about where Protestantism was that there were at least two different movements to restore their respective denominations to something each saw as more Catholic: The Tractarian movement for Anglicans and the Mercersburg movement for the German Reformed.

There’s a huge jump between “saints are with God” and “I can ask saints to pray to God for me.” Saints being with God doesn’t mean they can hear us necessarily. Note that I am saying this as someone who holds to the saint advocacy view (as promoted by Bishop William Forbes).

I doubt this when it comes to the Episcopal Church. TEC was into ecumenical relations with EO, which is certainly not theologically liberal.
The mainline churches are less theological liberal than they were 100 years ago, but more socially liberal.

I had someone tell me that Bishop William Forbes, 16th-17th century Anglican divine, said that transubstantiation was not heresy. He obviously would uphold the 39 Articles against it, but he didn’t believe it was inherently heretical. I find this view interesting.

It doesn’t make sense that people claim that the 39 Articles are strictly Calvinist. Multiple of the Caroline Divines departed from Calvinism and they certainly didn’t reject the Articles. Some were even more Arminian leaning, and some were probably more Lutheran leaning.

This isn’t viable. Even the Tractarians held to them as a confession. It’s one of the things holding Anglicanism together, alongside the BCP.
The 39 Articles cannot, are not, and will never be received as a confession but rather a delineation between Puritan and Papal, showing the Church of England shall be neither. They are not binding on the conscience of men and should be left as the mistake they were.

Do not bring affirming stuff into the ACNA (as you suggested in a comment). The ACNA split because of that stuff being accepted in TEC. Also, you’ve compromised Biblical morality to support homosexuality, what’s stopping you from compromising on this too?
Polyamory is not Christian, and I will leave TEC if it is ever officially endorsed.

I have already established myself a bit at the ACC parish and seemingly have committed myself, but the ACNA needs help. I struggle with praying myself but I hope my and others’ prayers can help me make a decision (once I get a consistent job to help with gas money that is).

It’s so funny how the International Edition of the 1662 BCP has many more saints on its calendar than the 1928. The 1928 only has Apostolic/Biblical saints while the 1662 IE has quite a few later saints.

The Hebrew Bible explicitly rejects this. The NT doesn’t say a word about it, but early Christians debated when a fetus became a person & Augustine established the consensus that would last until the 1800s, which was that it didn’t become a person until the quickening.

Unrelated to the main point but the Sacrament point is why I can’t attend even many TEC churches. Either they have female clergy or have apostolic lines with female clergy. This makes the Eucharist or any other sacrament except for baptism invalid.
Don’t claim to love Jesus if you won’t attend church. Church is where you encounter Jesus in Word and Sacrament. You don’t just encounter Jesus mentally
Skipping church on Sunday (assuming you’re able to go) is a sin
