@afc78Wimbledon @9yrspodcast @bestformofwit For the red card that is what he's done, yes. Given how much holding usually happens at set pieces it's pretty harsh but that is the key point. The law changed a few years ago with the bit about it being a red in the penalty area only if there's no possibility to play the ball

@afc78Wimbledon @9yrspodcast @bestformofwit Later in the same section it says "the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off"

@9yrspodcast It's always funny when fans (and managers) talk about the letter of the law when most have never read them. The relevant section is in Law 12

@BBCArchive I remember Robert Robinson from the 1980s and later, when he looked exactly the same. In 1949 he was only 22 but in the clip he looks like he's 45+

@benatipsos While there's lots wrong with US healthcare spending, this chart seems misleading and below the standard I'd expect from the FT. Some analysis that controls for other differences would be much more informative. I assume that exists somewhere because it's a well researched area

@deb_the_dj @sid_lambert I was also at that game, in the away end. It's easy to forget how that rule change affected Goalkeepers. Veteran lower league keepers, like poor Scott Barrett here, were completely terrified when the ball got passed to them

@RealTimeWWII What's the town below Plymouth on the list? Looks like either Billingham or Gillingham but both of those are small to medium sized places when the others are bigger cities.

@BBCArchive Michael Parkinson should believe in God for one day of the year, at least. Anything less is pretty rude really.

@Damo259 @stusfootyflash Brian Moore's shirt is from Gillingham's 1995/96 promotion winning season so run up to Euro96 seems likely

@BobtheGoon5 @RealTimeWWII Fish and chips became widespread and popular in the C19. The growth of the railways allowed fresh fish to be transported from fishing ports to major cities. During WWII trawler fishing must have been pretty restricted I assume.

@BBCArchive The guy who talked about police harassment was so prescient. I had to check the dates - also November 1974

@TheGolfingRef @refsupportuk I do agree but I think it's worth asking why. Most 30/40-something mums never got the chance to play when they were girls like the dads did. That will slowly change.
