"We’re not going to subsidize other people’s businesses for free," said the CEO of a message board whose entire business model is predicated on people contributing content, moderating, etc. for freeeee.
@Voultar
I've read every single one of his interviews about this and it's astounding how delusional he comes across. Reddit deserves much better leadership.
@Blackheart_Opus
@ChiseHatoriFan
I’m Puerto Rican. This is a thing. You could not pay me to play this slop but switching back and forth is 100% a thing.
@Dreamboum
It goes back even further. BioWare was criticizing JRPGs as far back as 2009. I briefly spoke to Casey Hudson about it on the sidelines of E3 2010. Social media wasn’t as much of a thing back then but folks were still upset.
@bcmerchant
I'm so bored by this AI stuff.
A year ago I was pretty bullish. "This is incredible," etc.
Now I'm like, "In what way will any of this be useful to me?"
@SeanMcCarthyCom
That’s what bothers me the most about the current day: talking to us as if we’re children. “Inflation Reduction Act.” Sure, ok bro, thanks. There’s zero sophistication or nuance in any sort of discussion. I might as well be watching WWE, at least that’s nakedly fake.
I don't have a SoundCloud but you should subscribe to
@ConsumerReports
. If you've ever Googled "blah blah reddit," well, we (real humans, not AI nonsense) actually buy and test stuff, all day, every day!
Also, listen to HourTime, my watch podcast:
This is why everything you love gets destroyed (via
@tomwarren
).
If only Nintendo would pursue relentless growth at all costs, rather than being content with a healthy business!
@visakanv
There was a guy on Flickr (Gage Skidmore) who did the same thing, taking photos of prominent people (politicians, etc) and licensing them freely even for commercial use. Pretty cool and came in handy many times!
@Patrick_Wyman
@TheAtlantic
Finally! I've been waiting to read something like this. How many wealthy, like, car dealership owners or lawn maintenance or construction company guys are out there that have basically zero in common with the NYC or DC set?
@nw3
@coldhealing
That’s what excel modeling means. “What if we cut this many people? Or maybe this many?” This is why our GDP is so high, people copy and paste in excel all day.
"The settlements include a $7.5 million pact with a former wrestler who alleged that Mr. McMahon coerced her into giving him oral sex and then demoted her and declined to renew her contract in 2005 after she resisted further sexual encounters."
I typically use Google to search for all of our articles on a given topic.
Now Google has taken it upon itself to insert other publications smack dab in the middle of the results.
I obv have nothing against Cnet, Wirecutter, etc (they're good!) but I'm explicitly looking for
"Let it be noted that F1 acted with unprecedented speed to cancel the Russian GP within hours of their invasion of Ukraine yet has not batted an eyelid to what is happening in Yemen."

@MyLordBebo
One of the few examples of Brutalist architecture in NYC. Reporting a few years ago revealed that its codename is Titanpointe, allegedly used an an NSA surveillance thing. Was an AT&T building back in the day.
@ChristianSelig
I remember listening to a recent
@reckless
interview with Reddit's product chief and making this face the entire time: 😬
Was clear to me then that they have no idea what they're doing.
Literally no idea where
@HardDriveMag
came from but it's right up there with
@KayfabeNews
as one of the few sources of light in this dark world of ours
@videotech_
Being able to play this whenever I wanted was a huge reason why I got a Series X at the beginning of the year. Still can't believe a PC version never came out.
@coldhealing
Good eye. I think it's missing music, for one. Also: nothing here looked super glamorous. Taking the bus in Chicago during the winter isn't quite the same as sitting poolside in some sun-drenched resort-style building.
@sloppyNOseconds
@visakanv
Oh I'm blind haha, yes that's him! I always wanted to interview him to see what his deal with. His photos were very helpful! Total internet hero.
@bog_beef
Was it an old Seinfeld joke? Some comedian in the 90s. “How do you get a job as a children’s author? ‘The blue dog ran fast.” Great stuff, I can see why you’re uniquely qualified to write this stuff.”
@mayfer
This is Instagram’s and HGTV’s fault. We’re stuck where gray is the only acceptable accent color. It’s like how brown was the only acceptable color during the Xbox 360 era.
@FromKulak
Are you telling me young people aren't interested in defending things like a broken dating market, 8% interest rates making houses unaffordable for just about everyone, and the threat of bankruptcy if they have a medical emergency? Weird!
FTC says "Google and iHeartMedia paid influencers to promote products [the Pixel 4] they never used, showing a blatant disrespect for truth-in-advertising rules."
@Vera_Verse
@stephentotilo
Which is super interesting to me because Bethesda games aren't super well-optimized at launch usually. Curious to see if that's different this time around!
@bog_beef
I've always wondered how that works. Let's say you're picked for a jury and you just straight up tell the prosecution, "Yeah, no matter what evidence you show I'm not convicting this guy." Not sure if that qualifies as nullification lol.
@GmanLives
I’m a big fan of that account (honestly it’s probably my favorite account nowadays) but felt they were way off base with that tweet. People can respectfully disagree but imo games were better in the past for many reasons.
@matthewstoller
One criticism that was off for me was the "selling things they don't make."
Do Toyota or Honda or Ford have the ability to sell directly to consumers? Do you buy your butter from the Land O Lakes store or from a grocery store? Even Rolex uses dealers. Retail is a skill!
Love this idea. "Apple Music will be adding new Dolby Atmos tracks constantly and will be curating a special set of Dolby Atmos playlists to help listeners find the music they love."
@RMac18
I don’t cover advertising but I do look up watch news all the time (and have a watch podcast), so it’s funny to me to see ad after ad for literal fake Rolexes. They started popping up a few days ago. Thisisfine.jpg 🔥
@pkafka
I’ve paid $10 per month, every month for pro wrestling podcasts (and newsletters) since 2009. I feel like
@bryanalvarez
and
@davemeltzerWON
deserve a ton of credit for building a new media business. Paid newsletters? Paid podcasts? They’ve been at this for a while now!
@mjgault
I'm not going to mention the outlet, but someone the other day was like, "Imagine how awesome it would be if we shut down WhatsApp." It's like these people have never traveled outside the US. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but it's the reality.
@bog_beef
I swear to God my mom used to tell me "A hero ain't nothin but a sandwich." I think there were a lot of good samaritan types who got jacked in the late 80s/early 90s in NYC. Message received: Mind your own business. To this day one of my most used phrases is "not my problem."
