hey everyone, i hate having to do this but i started a gofundme because i owe columbia $6,000 that i need to pay before i can register for classes for fall. please share and retweet
@lodgepolepines
so many people have perfect test scores and get rejected too! after a certain point, getting admitted to an elite school is basically a matter of luck and random chance
the other day, i told my psychologist that when i was 12 years old i went on liveleak and watched the video of sadam hussein being executed and she was like “okay let’s move on to another subject”
@AlishaGrauso
@cmclymer
there’s really not much difference between trump and reagan. reagan was a racist and he even had a white supremacist, lee atwater, as one of his advisers! reagan used racist dog whistles, trump uses an airhorn. but their political views are extremely similar
@rtyson82
@EoinHiggins_
@chrislhayes
not to mention the cover up of kennedy’s various ailments that were being treated with stimulants, opioids, AND barbiturates!
i started watching the “holocaust and the US” ken burns series with my dad (boomer dads only ever want to history documentaries with you) and while i have known a lot about the isolationist movement in the 30s and early 40s, there was one clip that absolutely shocked me
it was a speech from charles lindbergh, one of the speeches i hadn’t heard before, and his talking points were literally almost indistinguishable from what people say about ukraine today. lindbergh said the british could never win the war, should surrender etc
lindbergh never actually wanted to peace; he just wanted europe to be under nazi occupation and the “anti-war” rhetoric served as a great cover for his pro-fascist views. by pretending to be “anti-war,” he could retain some sort of moral legitimacy in the eyes of the public
this is insane because palestinians have absolutely shown solidarity with the BLM movement, and even if they hypothetically hadn’t, they live under absolutely brutal conditions and many in the gaza strip can’t even get consistent food and medicine……
@jil_slander
almost perfect but it’s missing the black t-shirt that has been washed so much that the graphic (usually of a video game) has major cracks in it
@Foximoxi79
@p_splashartist
@FowlCurtis
medicare itself doesn’t deny more claims than private insurance. there’s a handful of services/care that medicare requires prior authorization but these are very uncommon. the red tape and denied coverage is from the supplemental medicare insurance sold by for-profit companies
i could be wrong but i don’t think this piece got the attention it deserves. kids are actually getting a FAR worse education with in-person learning because their teachers are out sick!!
@calvinjburke
sort of surprised he wasn’t prosecuted for some of those statements at the time because some people were convicted during WWII for being sympathetic or supportive of nazi germany and/or japan
When I was a kid, my mom, a speech therapist, sat me down and explained that every Warner Bros. character has a speech disorder, and went into detail about each one. Just reminded of that now
my dad, early 1970s: “i make more money for my employer every year, they pay me more money every year and a competing employer offered me more money and a company car if i work for them”
millennials, 2021: “my employer beats me everyday and pays me less every year”
one time some black israelite guys (i think?) were preaching on the street while i was with my friend and they asked my friend (who is white) “what color was jesus?” and my friend said “…ugh, black?” and the guy starts saying “EVEN THE WHITE DEVIL KNOWS THE TRUTH”
Maybe 6 weeks ago, I saw about 5 Black Hebrew Israelites demonstrating in a park & thought, "Man, you never see those guys anymore," and now Kyrie Irving is tweeting "Jewish slave-owners confess to devil worship." History from here on out is just the human mind collapsing
Dasha Nekrasova of ‘Red Scare’ confirms Charli xcx wrote “Mean Girls” about her:
“It’s a great song, she sent it to me a couple months ago and told me about…happy to be a muse whenevs.”
my piece about mormon socialists is in the july issue of in these times. you can now read it online as well. thank you
@sarahlazare
for being such a great editor!
@sparklmoder
i mean are you saying that the lives of americans matter more than the lives of ukrainians? because let’s be honest, when most people talk about blowback, it is a rhetoric used to value the lives of americans over the lives of people living outside the US which is messed up
@ScholarlySpoon
lol there are people in the replies to that tweet saying they recently joined CPUSA and now are cancelling their membership. how did they not know that CPUSA has told its members to vote for the democrats for years? they even praised obama back in 2008!
@ppmcderm
@BROTHERRon808
@willmenaker
native american boarding schools were part of the genocide of native americans. similarly china’s forced assimilation of the uighur population is genocide… genocides can happen without mass murder
one of the most surreal videos i have ever seen. like watching a recording of a strange dream you had. trump sounds actually kind of sad that ginsberg died and says she was “amazing”? and then tiny dancer is playing in the background. my god
WATCH: Trump hears from a reporter that Justice Ginsburg has died.
"She just died? Wow. I didn't know that, you're telling me now for the first time."
"She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman...I'm sad to hear that."
i am so proud of this. when we first started, our first meeting had two people show up, our co-chair joseph and then me. back then i could never have imagined that we would become an official chapter 🥲
We are excited to announce that our application has been approved and we are now an official DSA chapter (previously, we were officially an organizing committee). Thank you to everyone, both in DSA and outside DSA, who have helped us get here. We are so excited for the future.
when i took this i was still feeling kind of drugged up from the fun stuff the dentist gave me. anyway we need
#medicareforall
(it would even cover dental) and you should join DSA
you are definitely pro-palestine if you believe in a two-state solution. surveys show that about half of all palestinians believe in a two state solution. do you think you know more about being pro-palestine than actual palestinians living in gaza and the west bank?
you are not pro-palestine if
- your 'activism' boils down to only arguing irl and not retweeting online
- you believe in 2-state
- you think resistance groups (hamas) are terrorists
- you hate jews
- you argue and speak over palestinians
- you stan zionists and defend them
let me remind you that the california law on disability accommodations goes back to 1974. the ADA goes back to 1990. if a restaurant didn’t spend the money on proper accommodations, that was almost certainly a conscious choice…
@nytimes
nuclear energy: incredibly expensive, takes forever to build a nuclear power plant, and leads to horrendous nuclear accidents that everyone said wouldn’t happen “because they have really improved the safety this time”. sounds exactly like something steven pinker would support!
it was great to help push back against IYSSE’s anti-ukrainian lies at NYU yesterday. the IYSSE, WSWS complain that there isn’t enough “dialogue” about the cause of the war. there has been plenty. it’s just that the debate is over. russia, not ukraine, is responsible for this war
i think palestinians are showing this because they are good people who care about animals as well as humans. not everything is about white people, jesus christ
You know the dehumanization is complete when the Palestinians are resorting to showing pics & videos of animals suffering due to the Zionist Occupation's bombing coz the pics & videos of dead men, women and children didn't generate an ounce of sympathy in the white western world.
One of the most surreal moments of my life was when this picture was everywhere about the Nova party massacre and no one was like “is this a fuckin airstrike? what the fuck is this!”
I am excited to announce that I am running for DSA NPC on the Green New Deal Slate with
@ahSHEEK

@is_gustavo_a
. We are core organizers & national leaders of the DSA GND + PRO Act campaigns.
A better world is necessary.
Let's get to work🌹
it shouldn’t be surprising but it disgusts me that almost any american discussion of japan and WWII completely ignores the millions of vietnamese, chinese, and korean murdered by imperial japan. they have just been completely erased from american memory and it’s so sad
@revmagdalen
the vast majority of DSA endorsed candidates actually run as democrats so this doesn’t even make sense. DSA is entryist and it is not a third party

@mollycrabapple
story about her great grandfather was definitely one of the best i read this year. it is an interesting intersection of jewish history and politics!
@YPTActual
it’s so funny because in a way these people are doing the CIA’s work for them. there is nothing the CIA would love more than you to think they are omnipotent and omnipresent, in control of everything!
Disclaimer: I took a year of classical Greek at Stanford
I was an average student, definitely not as good as the experts here, including Wilson herself. I couldn't translate it myself
But I think you will see that many of my criticisms don’t require any knowledge of Greek
lots of problems with the criminal justice system in this country. “actually, we are locking up too many people who commit hate crimes” is not one of them
@YPTActual
not too mention that idi amin was super pro-israel until they stopped giving his government weapons and military aid. once that happened he immediately become anti-israel lol. he had no principles whatsoever
@LILBTHEBASEDGOD
EMU PX7’s are pretty cool when it comes to sampling and sequencing. this link has tons of info....including a download to upgrade the OS. i think there were expansions for PX7 as well, might be wrong on that tho
@davidfrum
i don’t think it is fair to try and characterize the people fighting against colonialism as being controlled by moscow or whatever. the US and israel even supported the rebels as well
majority of people in taiwan support the “status quo,” where taiwan is in practice a sovereign state but doesn’t have actual international legal recognition as such. this does not mean they don’t favor independence 🙄
70 percent of Americans are in favor of Taiwanese independence, but the majority of Taiwanese are against independence. ROFL.
Americans care so much about the people of Taiwan that they refuse to listen to them.
for the past week or so my tinder bio has been “i want someone to run me over with a car” and now all the messages i get are like “you are so handsome, i will run you over with my 2006 honda civic 😍”

They have free healthcare, free higher education, rent control, no affordable housing shortage, & the best Manufacturing jobs for the biggest international companies. Brother, I would PAY YOU if you could help me trade in my American Empire citizenship for a better life w the CCP
@timeforjaya
that was absolutely my experience when i was living in california but since moving to NYC i will say that the vast majority of service workers wear masks whereas they didn’t in CA. not sure if that’s for cultural, legal, or (purely) medical reasons
fourth ketamine infusion done just now. (the doctor increased the dose this time). i feel like i don’t have the words to express just how helpful this treatment has been for my depression
@mjcboston
@GarbageApe
@JordanUhl
we knew masks worked back in march. china was telling everyone in china to wear masks back then. hell they wore masks during the original SARS epidemic. we could have followed their lead but that would’ve meant admitting that MAYBE “the west” doesn’t know everything
i reviewed “owning the sun” for
@theprogressive
. the book is out today and it is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of medicine and science. thanks
@kassidy_tarala
for being a great editor
@timeforjaya
they don’t really help with anxiety as much as they can help reduce some of the stuff that comes with anxiety (increased heart rate, sweating, etc)
It is true of course that there is a difference between colonial cultural genocide and the modernisation of a people by their national project. I think the journalist, like many people in the West, simply did not grasp that distinction.
houses sell for much cheaper than usual if someone was murdered there (has to be disclosed in the listing) and so basically my plan for affordable housing is to have a murder occur in about half of all american homes
i wrote a profile of a new DSA member for democratic left. kiara is a super cool person so please read it. it will appear in print in the winter issue of democratic left which will be in your mailbox if you are a DSA member
