Exactly one year ago today, 9/29/2023, I wrote the first lines of code for Ballionaire. It didn't even have a real draft - the board was hardcoded.
Today, exactly a year later, I'm making the first cut of a release candidate for the Steam demo.

It's a real-time hacking game inspired by the board game Bullet<3 and the hacking mini game in

This is only ~12 hours of work so I might dip back into the jam to try some other concepts!

the crazy part is Electra 2000 goes even harder than this album. they were a great synthesis of chicago noise rock and louisville post-rock. see also: Poster Children (contemporaries in the Champaign scene)

Non-answer, because there is no answer. A system which *by design* disintermediates any authority from gatekeeping transactions between two parties is fundamentally MORE open to bots, scalping, and in general, automated/inauthentic behavior.

The last sentence in your post is why it's a bad idea. This the "free marketization" of PTO, with "race to the bottom" results and will cause people to take less and less to not be viewed unfavorably. If companies wanted to give "unlimited PTO" they would just give 6-8 weeks.

as an old one of my favorite stories to tell is how games like Bard's Tale, Wizardry, & Ultima let you import characters from each other & that if you inserted a disk that WASN'T from the right game, there was no checksumming. it would turn random binary garbage into a character.

I worked in the game industry ~20-25 years ago, for a little over 5 years. Ballionaire is my first "real" game since then and also my first "real" game as a designer. One thing I did not anticipate: how hard it is to keep your entire creation in your head.

I used BSP trees for realtime (in-game) CSG for navmeshes in Savage: The Battle for Newerth back in ~2002. (Players could build AND destroy oddly shaped buildings at arbitrary angles, affecting nav, so, yea, had to do it.) Got away with a single size plane push-out. But --

899. it's not prime, it's not a square, it only has four factors, the digits are not strictly ordered but also not exactly out of order, it's annoying as hell to write in roman numerals (DCCCXCIX), nothing important happened in 899 AD or BC, and just look at it; it's fucken ugly

My tip to cope with plug pulls: write the save file with a temporary name, then rename it to an expected name after it’s successfully written. At some point, scan for and delete the files with temporary names. Never write straight to a live filename.
