This Bugs Bunny Show episode entitled, Ballpoint Puns, is the 7th episode of season 2. This is a 16mm scan of the episode wherein I overlayed Mel Blanc's recording session (from the Golden Collection DVD) with the 16mm print's soundtrack. #LooneyTunes #bugsbunny

@ActualAero I remember with Golden Eye, they kept delaying until it was right, and now with Metroid Prime 4, they ditched the company making it because it wasn't up to their standards and went back to the company that did MP 1-3 (makes me wonder why they didn't just stay with them).

In both of the new cartoons, there wasn't any notable instances of the still frames that featured so prominently in the original, except for one example in the opening title sequence and end title.

While Swing Wedding isn't shown on TV today due to depictions of stereotypes from the era, I find it regrettable as they're not inconsistent w/the caricatures of other celebrities from the time & it effectively encapsulates the essence of jazz from that era. #animation #16mm

Betty Boop Be Human cleaning done for @fleischertoons . This scene had badly damaged frames and missing frames (with background motion). Had to stitch multiple frames together for repair work but only a DVD print was available to replace the missing frames.

I could have missed them, but there was little instances of smearing as well. Much of the animation of the reboot is shot in 2s, so the lack of extremes causes the animation to lack dynamism.

Took the time to color grade this frame. Obviously there are strong opinions about this cartoon, but amongst the ugly there is beauty too. Remember, context matters, and it's crucial to approach these artifacts with sensitivity.

Tom Tom Tomcat (1953) 16mm scan This cartoon has not been broadcast on US TV since the 1990s (nor received a DVD/Blu-ray release) due to stereotyping. It also was not included on the Golden Age of Looney Tunes laserdisc collection. #LooneyTunes (scan credit: Jerico Dvorak).

Here's a new 16mm of scan of Time for Beany (aired 1949-55). Magnetic tape wasn't used for shows until 1956; many shows were recorded with a kinescope (16mm camera pointed at a TV). The horizontal scanlines & the interlacing artifact from the different frame rates are visible.

Cab Calloway ( @TheCabCalloway ) released 'Minnie the Moocher' 91 years ago today. This scene from the Max Fleischer produced cartoon was my favorite part to restore from this 35mm print. You can watch the whole film here:

This turned up on eBay a few months, and we pooled resources to acquire it. A 16mm BW print "Of Thee I Sting" that has the cartoon's original title sequence (WB's restoration has BR titles). A very capable friend is working on coloring it right now. #LooneyTunes #animation

The Krazy Kat comic strip was animated several times. In 1920, Bray studio began producing Krazy Kat shorts. This is from a 16mm of Krazy Kat in The Hinges on the Bar-Room Door (1921), made for home viewing. Released Jan 8, 1921 and directed by Vernon Stallings.

Beany Meets the Monstrous Monster (1960) is from episode 5 of the 1962 Beany & Cecil cartoon series. The print has quite a few splices and is pretty beat up. It is very red as well, but the colors correct nicely at least. #animation #cartoon #bobclampett #16mm

Alice was filmed on a white set (A roll), which was also used for roto to plan animation around her (B roll). The 2 rolls were printed w/B roll in front. Due to this double printing, Alice was not as "sharp" as the cartoon footage & the doubling of film grain is often noticeable.

Bosko's #Easter Eggs (1937). MGM wanted Harman's Bosko changed as the first design is related to WB. Stereotyped vernacular aside, the redesign was a visual departure from how blacks were typically shown in the era (e.g., the characters are acting like regular kids).

Columbia's Up N' Atom (1947) reissue 35mm scan was written by Bob Clampett & directed by Sid Marcus. It's about a dimwitted dog who chases a very Sylvester-looking cat. Film scanned by @kinekovideo . You can watch the whole cartoon at the link below.

Ray HarryHausen is best known for Jason & the Argonauts, but he first started w/George Pal on Puppetoons, and after WWII, he salvaged several rolls of surplus 16 mm film from which he made a series of fairy tale-based shorts, including Little Red Ridding Hood (1949) ( @RockinPins )

Frankenstein's Cat is the second in the mighty mouse series. Then he was named Super Mouse, which was later changed in The Wreck of the Hesperus. You can see that the character design follows closer to Superman. scan by @kinekovideo Full 16mm scan:

In 1958, Max Fleischer revived Out of the Inkwell Films w/animator Hal Seeger & made 100 color Out of the Inkwells (1961–1962) for TV. Larry Storch was one of the voice actors. This is a bw TV print from the series. Full cartoon can be viewed here:
