I do sometimes wonder if people born after circa 2004 are aware that people used to have meetings about things that were not universally agreed about & they talked and sometimes went to the pub with their opponents afterwards. This is a thing that happened and it was good. 🙏 1/

🧵No, what the judgment confirms beyond doubt is that our govt in Scotland lied to us through their teeth for years, causing an intense and appalling cultural schism that has led to enormous harm. Women have been proven 'valid' in our concerns time and time again. Enough. 1/

🧵 Today's judgment confirms beyond doubt that devolution is fundamentally flawed. The Court has confirmed that legislation passed by a majority in Holyrood can be struck down by Westminster. The only way to guarantee we get true self-government is through independence.

It doesn't take an illustrious university career, loads of research, or careful 'nuance' to state strongly & clearly the obvious point that males should never, EVER be permitted access to female-only, trauma-centred, rape crisis services. What it takes is guts. 1/

When I speak of "fragile thuggery" this is a perfect example. A near-hysterical claim of emotional damage from even SEEING a book one disagrees with, in a culture where women have *literally* been punched in the face by activists who think this way. It has to stop being indulged.

@RooneyRachel @blablafishcakes @LitScotland Here is the paragraph from the 'Resources' page of @LitScotland . It is as ludicrous to defend a male claiming an ability to produce female breast milk as it would be to defend a female claiming an ability to produce sperm. However, because so many (inc some women) view being female with such disdain, here we jolly were are, I guess. 1/3

@LitScotland It's not merely "unsuitable" - it advocates for illegal belief discrimination & the hounding of (largely) feminist writers. You need to be clear that you, & your Board, do not agree with it in order to provide any kind of assurances, and to help overturn this censorious culture.

Being a woman in a position of power does not mean you are a feminist, no matter how much you 'fought for' your place to be a woman of power. If you are using that power to deny women are definable & legislatively important, your 'to the fingertips' feminism needs a manicure.

Women are materially definable, legislatively important, & do not deserve to be categorised as bigots, deserving of violence, or live in fear for asserting their rights and boundaries. Particularly their sexual boundaries. That this view is deemed controversial astounds me.

Cancelling an entire show based on one of four performers beliefs is discrimination on the basis of belief, a very repellant guilt-by-association tactic, & punishes that performer, yes, but also the promoter & audience. Could Edina venues TRY to understand the law, please?

Thinking back on all the Fringe shows I worked the bar on in the noughties that I hated, that were full of misogyny and offence, where I was still able to pour drinks for punters and not have a hernia. Social media didn't exist then, of course. What power this mad invention has!

I refuse to act as if I'm not extremely lucky to live in a democracy. If you like living in a democracy too, stop going along with this awful shit, stick up for women being treated this way & for god's sake get out of the arts if you hate freedom of expression & political women.

Absolutely chilling how quickly the industry has mobilised to unperson Roisin. This seems as much like a warning to others, as it is a punishment for Roisin’s unauthorised personal views.

Women globally are being harassed, assaulted, being financially targeted, by activists who do not believe women are definable as a sex-class, nor that they deserve *anything* female-only. To me, this is global misogyny & an insidious backlash. Of course #IStandWithSallGrover x

@English_DrumCHS As a former high school teacher, I would argue that this tweet is against GTCS standards for professional registration. You have a duty not to call the profession into disrepute, and spreading misinformation or false suicide narratives is both grossly reckless & unprofessional.

This is most impressively written but foundationally demented five star review I've ever read. The album must be incredible to have received them despite the clear internalised terror of the reviewer at liking such a kitten-hating wrong-un's exceptional talent 👏

I truly believe this is one of the most offensive articles in the shitrag that the Guardian has become on the gender madness. Shame on it and what it has become:

@genthewren @FiLiA_charity Glasgow @womenslibrary included placards from those hounding myself and one of their former writers in residence in their collections. Men yelling 'fuck you' at global women are more important to them than supporting actual feminists. They are utterly and entirely lost.

I doubt it is possible to fully explain how it feels to see people who were *feverishly* involved in trying to ruin your life remain silent when you are proven right about the things they said you deserved hounding over. But this IS why humans invented Malbec, isn't it?

For those outwith 'the debate' who reckon these women must have been up to no good: they'd just had a meeting to talk about women's rights in law. The normalisation of women such as Helen and Maya getting mobbed in the street by abusive numbskulls is utterly insane.

1/ As many women have pointed out, it doesn't matter what tone you use, what words you say; if you are compassionate & calm, or more confrontational: gender identity activists will respond in one way regardless - all out attempts to destroy you & anyone who supports you.

One day, the fact that many women had their lives upended for knowing women are materially definable, legislatively & culturally important, & that they do not deserve harms of all kinds for saying so will, surely, be viewed as insane. I do hope so. It's been quite mad. 🙏💜

Should've guessed this Cabaret guy was involved. Not content with posting misogyny about women's looks after they have a party, or trying to shut down poetry events, he's now protesting a global network of feminist women who come together to advocate for ourselves. Nice.

@ryanjjvance One day, you and others are seriously going to have to engage with the morality of your tactics. If you don't like us/ our themes? Don't come. Stop trying to make ppl & venues terrified. Women have every right to a venue and a space to meet & I've a right to make a living.

This is the type of censorious, hectoring, malicious, libellous nonsense that has been affecting so many women's lives, careers, incomes and sanity in the arts, academia, politics and beyond. I am tired of it. I am more tired of the supposed adults who bow in fear to it. Enough.

@RosieKayK2CO @jonronson @adambuxton8 Given Ronson's pretty good early foray into exploring public shaming of those whose views arguably cross a line, it's been pretty disappointing to see him contribute to it when it comes to women whose only 'line' is that we are materially definable and important on that basis.

If I can be slightly spikier on this, after a gin: if you're choosing to ignore this outcome of largely left-wing women organising to meet, speak & freely discuss their rights, you already know what you would've been doing during the sufragette movement. In case you've wondered.

I'm wondering how people square in their minds, given the history of this, that it is now seen as 'progressive' to protest meetings of women and, moreover, to ostracise women who wish to meet to discuss the law that protects them? The cognitive dissonance must be a high, I guess.

I've just read yet another thread by a self-appointed spokesperson for yet another 'writing community' celebrating harassing a lit fest to no-platform a writer forever, for a speech they didn't hear, based on one person's interpretation of it. These people think they're kind. 😳

I am very tired of the small group of Scots male columnists targeting Forbes for her personal stance (that she does not force on others or seek to ban) re: abortion and gay marriage, when they also back male rapists in female prisons & women being un-fuckin-definable. Eejits.

I find the inability to separate Forbes’ religion from her politics bizarre when people are happy 2 do this for others. The fact so many in SNP didn’t know her views on equal marriage etc b4 she ran last year (hence the upset) surely shows her beliefs don’t colour her politics?

I have no idea where this is going to go next, but what I do know is this: I will never vote for any legislator who cannot see how appalling & divisive a situation has been created by a shocking lack of leadership from govt, a majority of parties, and cultural leaders generally.

In matters of the pronouns one is expected to confer on a rapist, I tend towards respecting the victims. Adam Graham was not an 'individual' who raped and terrorised two women. HE raped them. Two women. He did that. HE. In a system almost impossible to convict. He. He. He.

The process of this Bill has been a travesty of democracy. Reckless legislators, riddled with self-interest and in hock to lobby groups, voted against amendment after amendment that might have taken the sting out of unfettered self-ID. Ludicrously, @ScottishLabour voted FOR 2/

I think two things are correct simultaneously. First, that it's galling to those of us who are skint, precarious, not well-known at all, to see someone wealthy not stick to their guns due to the mob. It is hurtful, frankly, when individuals and institutions capitulate due to 1/
