"All society was complicit" The clergy who made our theatres, dancehalls, pubs and homes their business. Who marauded around lanes, streets and roads intimidating young couples. A culture of fear that was hardwired into decent people. And they were complicit? Get ta fuck.
"Magdalene Laundries are ultimately a service provided by the state. It's not the same thing as thousands of children being sexually assaulted by the clergy" - John Bruton in 1996, presumably.
Leo Varadkar concedes some Direct Provision accommodation is substandard but it is "ultimately a service provided by the state… free accommodation, food, heat, lighting, education, and some spending money. It's not the same thing as a man being killed by the police."
I know it's a cliché for people to say that they hadn't prepared a speech but I genuinely had not prepared a speech so massive thanks to
@AcornTV
and the cast and the crew. I'm so sorry, I'm not used to this craic at all and was wearing trackies from the waist down, forgive me.
Still hilarious that they rushed Game Of Thrones because they were so keen to get to their Star Wars show and fucked it up so badly that they lost their Star Wars show.
Wolfwalkers opens in Irish cinemas today. It's a tonic for the soul courtesy of
@tommmoore
,
@RossStewartArt
and the team at
@CartoonSaloon
. I got to do a fun double act with Jon Kenny which was very cool. It's a gorgeous film, go see it.
Beyond excited to bring this macabre craic to the screen. I'm a very lucky man to be working with such a cracking cast and crew. 6 episodes of death and photography in Victorian Dublin landing next year.
This last month has me so mentally beleaguered, bereft of joy and all hope crushed to pieces that I’m finally in the perfect state of mind for an Ireland play off match.
Wolfwalkers, the new feature film from
@CartoonSaloon
, premieres at
@TIFF_NET
next month. I'm positively howling at the moon to be part of such a cracking cast.
@tommmoore
and Ross Stewart have created something very special.
Wasn't expecting the first Dead Still preview/review to come from

but hey, I'll think twice about writing in tracksuit bottoms and thermal vests again.

Adam Driver, not yet 40 and he's worked with Scorsese, Eastwood, Spielberg, The Coens, Jarmusch, Soderbergh, Gilliam, Lee, Carax and Scott. Got to swing a lightsabre for 3 movies and all. Next level run.
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words about the show since Sunday. First episode can be watched on the

I wrote a short film based on my old summer job of tracking down illegal dumpers in a bin truck and it's getting a premiere this autumn. Directed by the always brilliant
@ImogenMurphy
and starring John Connors and Ann Skelly.
The legendary Tom Murphy out the gap. A hell of a writer and a giant of the Irish stage. May he be pouring curries over the heads of sex pests in heaven.
Have playwrights forgotten to think big? Never have I wanted a headline to go fuck itself more. But shur, how could we ever come up with big ideas unless we’re thrown into the fucking Hunger Games? If we didn’t have that we’d be making our poxy cheap two person shows forever!
€345g at previous Storyland rates would commission nearly 12 episodes of a half hour show. You could get two different 6 x 30min series on TV and employ a lot of people. It's not massive money but would help develop and elevate new screen talent. Never much of a priority though.
The Regent in Kilkenny. First film I saw there was Harry and The Hendersons and the last was Lost In Space, the final film to screen there.

The sun is out! Summer has surely arrived. Here are four nice things you can do in the sun today.
1. Not watch Eurovision.
2. Say to yourself, aloud and often '"Fuck Israel"
3. Not support apartheid and genocide by watching the Israeli shit show unfold.
4. Buy an ice cream.
Dead Still lands on
@AcornTV
on May 18th with the first two episodes straight out the gate. Entirely relatable viewing fodder for anyone who has lost their camera back ups and/or been stranded in Dun Laoghaire when they don't want to be.

How we described the show in funding applications when we didn’t want to say “the women have guns and shoot gangsters’ for fear it’ll sound too entertaining.
The Roaring Banshees is an original, stylish and funny new play highlighting the forgotten role of women in the political landscape of the early 20th century.

Did a wee interview with
@IFTN
about
#Deadstill

@ClaireEGormley

Done and wrapped and now very hungover. Well done to the epic cast and crew on Dead Still. Very excited about the episode where they commandeer an ice cream van. 😵📷🍦
Getting to play a lead role in a feature is one of those actor bucket list things to do and
@LOCfilm
is one of my favourite things I've worked on. First Dublin screening is March 7th at

in

The queue for Krispy Kreme out in Blanchardstown is one of the most disconcerting things I’ve seen in a long time. Hundreds of people, dead eyed, waiting for their bog standard donuts. Burn the world down.
Willie Meighan was a friend, mentor and honestly, the pure creative heart of Kilkenny. He embodied the best of the place. He'll be missed beyond words.
Kick-start the week with a new box set 🙌
Macabre comedy,

Maeve Ingoldsby was one of the first mentors I had and she taught me so much about writing plays. Some of my first acting gigs were in her wonderful plays for children. She was an amazing person and such a brilliant writer. She’ll be sorely missed.

Thinking of the night this is over and people descend into town in droves like the last day of the Leaving, Christmas Eve and a good World Cup result all in one, blitzed to heaven and you end up on a packed dancefloor with 100 people you know, everyone deranged with pure joy.
There's something very uncomfortable about watching Bono's daughter playing a working class, single mother, from the flats, in her new film Flora and Son.
I know its made to tailor to an American audience, but my god. It's a shocking, out-dated, out of touch performance!
If we can't shift tickets for a play about a rogue Cumann na Mban unit taking on Al Capone's Outfit, we might as well give this craic up and start bootlegging.

This is an excellent thread that articulates so well what many artists go through. May the well worn "we're all in this together" maxim be given a wee rest for a while in place of some actual listening. Also, I would add, answer your emails.
It only takes 15 minutes waiting for the green man on the Parade now, down considerably from its pre Covid time of 3 years. I hardly recognise this new Kilkenny.
My play 100 Everyday Menaces won some gold over at the New York Festivals International Radio Awards and

A lot of my research for Dead Still often involved the fun game of “which person is the dead one in the photo?” Great fun for all the family. I recommend.

Still having a wee chortle to myself every time I see the title of Nick Cave's new album. Here's hoping that Ghosteen is indeed about a tiny, adorable Irish ghost.
Fair play to Nicola on calling this shit out. She's one of the hardest working people I know and has busted her ass to get where she is. To be critiqued in this manner is disgusting and tantamount to bullying. Fuck that guy.
A chap called Andrew Egan reviewed Locus Of Control in which I play a character named Andrew Egan. And boy did he knock my movie star aspirations down a few pegs.

Gonna have a McDonagh opinion here. Wasn’t mad on the film but that type of article has been done a million times already, it says nothing that hasn’t been said since the mid 90’s. All it does is feed into a tired narrative of begrudgery.
It was the coolest bloody thing to see Michael bring this part to life. The last episode of the series lands on
