Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, biotech entrepreneur who owns The Los Angeles Times, announced that his corporation and his philanthropic foundation would commit about $210 million to transfer vaccine and therapy technology to South Africa, where he was born.
This government suddenly realised the scale of our power problem and wrote a whole letter telling us they will work on a plan to address it… it’s like ANC leaders live in a different country and just visit occasionally.
Over the past two weeks, we have been working with the relevant Ministers and senior officials on a range of additional measures to accelerate all efforts to increase our electricity supply.

Go get vaccinated!

South Africa is receiving 325,260 doses of Pfizer vaccine tonight. The delivery lands at OR Tambo airport just before midnight tonight. Same number of Pfizer doses expected to arrive in SA every week this month. This is a two-shot vaccine, unlike J&J, and requires cold storage.
Registered on last night when it opened for my age group. Walked into a vaccine centre this morning. In and out in 2 hrs.
The nurses said today has been the busiest they've been since the start of the roll out. The 35-50 age group isn't wasting time!
The

Infrastructure in Johannesburg is so bad that the city can’t provide water to key hospital. A charity had to step in to help supply.
Meanwhile, the mayor talks about the Fourth Industrial Revolution…

What on earth is long COVID?
1/ Long Covid is loosely defined as symptoms persisting weeks after COVID. Everyone has their own definition.
First, there is no single disease called "Long COVID".
Its a colloquial term given to a variety of conditions following COVID.

My son has been volunteering at a Covid Vaccination site. I asked him what was the difference between his work today (when 18-35s became eligible) and earlier this week?

why they didn’t act to prevent the burning of a drug factory.

Not sure how big a role 1 plays but Mearsheimer and Walt were huge. I think a fourth factor playing out now is that newsrooms in US and UK are much more diverse. Some of part of that is due to many Al Jazeera English slums across the industry but also just broad shifts...
Unbelievable that anyone needs to lay out arguments for why people should not congregate in a pandemic but here we are.
