Hello to my new followers! I don't always follow back, becasue my TBI makes a simple feed a must, but I'm always happy to engage. Here to talk about books, writing, movies, kids, cats, disability and diversity rep, etc.
@coereba
This! Also, when no one on the design team has kids or pets who might be TERRIFIED of invisible stairs.
We had a lab who would literally piss himself every time he saw stairs with gaps between the steps. Imagine that + see through steps. 😅Nightmare.
@iltdesigns
@femininalvibes
@ask_aubry
This. Intelligent women who know their worth are framed as "aggressive", "Intimidating" or "demanding", while a man saying the exact same things would be called "confident" or "outspoken".
@ask_aubry
Wow. Obviously written by someone who has NEVER had sex, cause fam...that shit's amusing. You slip, you slide, you accidentally bop your partner on the nose. Bodies make weird noises...sex is ridiculous and fun and if you can't laugh, you're doing it wrong.
@AlixEHarrow
I travelled a lot for work when our daughter was young. We'd read up on each place I was going. When she realized the average life expectancy in one place was younger than my current age, she was heartbroken.
"If we were there, you'd already be dead!"
Hard conversations.
@MamaSitaa__
My husband and I have been wondering if COVID behaves like Toxoplasmosis and inhibits risk mitigation in its hosts. It would explain why so many previously cautious people stop protecting themselves after infection.
I'm so sorry you're experiencing this - so unnerving!
For anyone who doubts Ottawa residents when we tell you about the Convoy people...the people threatening
@nilikm
are Convoy people. This is what they were like in Feb. This is what they are like now. This is what they stand for - anti-science, hate, and violence.
#EnoughisEnough
This is a threat from Saskatchewan in my election inbox. How many different ways can people threaten me before someone intervenes?
@RCMPSK
perhaps you can help? This is what hate-fuelled fanaticism looks like. I will not be silent in the face of this onslaught.
#EnoughlsEnough
@clhubes
Flying was the one and only time we let our daughter have unlimited screen-time. It made travelling a treat, rather than a discomfort. And why not? It's not like we weren't watching movies the whole flight too.
@ask_aubry
But I thought they liked thigh gaps, becasue it meant "skinny". But now thigh gaps are bad, becasue...not-virgin? Have any of these men ever actually seen a real woman? I'm starting to wonder.
@DavidHamer_1951
We live within earshot of it all. Horns at all hours. Flag-waving hooligans speeding down streets in trucks. Garbage everywhere. Big men wrapped in flags threatening pedestrians and workers in stores. It was the most distressing 3.5 weeks of my life.
@ask_aubry
As someone with anxiety-some of which focuses on cleanliness-what this roommate is doing is totally unacceptable. My family & I have agreed on basic rules (no food outside kitchen & living room, clean counters, etc.) but I'm responsible for managing my mental health, not them.
My brother-in-law caught COVID at an outdoor meeting. 8 people in attendance, 6 of them ended up infected.
Given how things can linger & spread, wearing a mask outdoors is perfectly acceptable.
@ask_aubry
The black belt should lose his belt (and be arrested). Part of earning a belt is understanding the responsibilities that come with it, and this man clearly did not. No honour, no discipline, no belt...end of story.
@ask_aubry
Even if a guy washes, intercourse can move bacteria up the urethra. Doctors recommend women get up & go pee after intercourse to flush things out.
@LauraRbnsn
I'm on ADHD meds for TBI-induced fatigue, and over the past 2 years, the tech at my pharmacy has:
-cancelled the prescription
-given me the wrong meds
-refused to give right meds without a 'no sub' from dr.
-commented negatively on my dosage
@JortsTheCat
, please send some of your pro-union, orange-cat energy our way in Ontario tonight. Our government just passed legislation forcing a contract on workers and removing their right to strike. It's horrible up here.
WHO statement on long Covid/“post Covid condition”
“An estimated one in 10 infections results in post Covid condition suggesting that hundreds of millions of people will need longer term care”
Hundreds of millions 😟
Not one in 10 people
One in 10 infections 😳
@Jt82pdx
I'm from Ontario, and "housecoat" is the ONLY word my family ever used for the warm, fuzzy thing you wear over PJs. "Robe" is a different kind of garment.
Housecoat: Robe:
@benji_smith
@ZachRoseWriter
You deeply misunderstand authors and the creative process if you think plagiarizing our work for an AI that will spit out poor copies for grifters to market would be "fascinating" or "useful" to any of us.
@JortsTheCat
Oh Jorts, what did you do?
Mutant Cat 1 sometimes chews on his tail and turns it into a sloppy wet weapon-of-mass-ick that he drags across his humans, eliciting cries of "Ugh! Slug-tail!"
@ask_aubry
🤮My husband and I taught English in Japan for 1.5 years, and the number of CREEPY American men who came over hoping to find a girlfriend because they were convinced women there would be desperate for a western life was...icky. Joke was on them - everyone saw right through them.
@ChristineGuent8
Is this person still a friend? I'd never be able to look at them the same way.
We lost a family friend because someone came to a funeral infected and unmasked. He and his wife both caught it & he died 3 days later.
@maosbot
I have come to the realization that it's mostly us weird people who are still masking, which means our immunity to peer pressure is a survival skill. We're weird in all the right ways.
@raggismaggis
@ask_aubry
Even if she wasn't aware, that very lack of awareness is an automatic "no". So yep, "drunk" is irrelevant to the heading. "Drunk" is always irrelevant.
How do you keep writing when you realize you don't have what it takes? Not in terms of craft...but in terms of that secret sauce that lands book deals.
My stories are: too soft, too slow, too character-driven, too scary, not scary enough, too weird, not weird enough...😢
I went for a booster today. No one (not even the nurses) were masking. The volunteer told us it was very important to sanitize our hands on the way in & out, but no concern about raw-dogging the air in a small room with zero ventilation.
The disinformation campaign has won.🙄
@ClyveRose
@iltdesigns
@femininalvibes
@ask_aubry
I'm sure one can...but it's hard when the people talking are senior management, who then promote "confident" men and harass, abuse, belittle, and gaslight their best women employees into quitting.
PS - my office lost 5 senior women (including me) in under a year due to this.
@JortsTheCat
We love you too, Jorts!
Mutant Cat 1 says "Hi!"
He chews his own tail and once got stuck head first and upside down in box. You are a sweet potato, he is a lovable turnip. 🥰
@1goodtern
People in my officer are so sick, all the time. Vertigo, "colds" that never go a way. Random nausea. And yet some of them want to have an in-person holiday party. That's a big NOPE from me.
@ChrisAlvino
I'm so sorry you mom went through this! I skipped 2-3 years of appointments as a teen after a dentist knelt on my chest & had the hygienist pin me down so he could pull out two teeth with no freezing. When I struggled and made noise, he implied I was overreacting.
@BlkCrownAuthor
@AuthorLMDavis
There's a whole series that came out in the 1990s featuring a sun-based magic system. Relatively famous author. It's not unique & thus, someone else doing a new twist on sun-based magic is NOT an infringement of your work.
@britneyslewis
OMG, this is totally top tier bizarre. I never thought I'd be sitting here watching someone role-play an epic blow-out fight with their own self-insert villain.
@_BillieBelieves
My husband actually works in the intelligence community. There's not much he can do from home, so he volunteered to take overflow call-centre calls answering questions re: Canada's emergency COVID payments. Transferable skills, man! 😂😂
You know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see everyone involved with the whole kids-in-cages thing brought up on international human-rights abuse charges.
@vanoralawless
This is the way! My 16yo purposely carries extra so she can be of help if someone gets caught out. She's given them to people at school & to women at her rock gym.
@314UXHolly
@CoachSloanT
@ApondiJOdhiambo
@cg_canning
Years ago, we used to run with our 8yo biking. If she got a bit ahead of us, she said other adults on the trail would check in with her (you ok?) and when she said yes, they'd smile and keep going. Concern without oversight. Care without policing.
@AuthorKati
Ugh. The presumption and entitlement of overly confident men knows no bounds.
We had a someone try to explain rock climbing to our daughter. Our daughter the competitive rock climber.
@JessPected
The number of men just gagging to humiliate their wife on their wedding day is scary.
Good people don't enjoy humiliating someone they love. Good people don't get a kick out of someone's pain and embarrassment.
Why are these dudes getting married at all?
@laylahersch
@katheroony
I'm a gen Xer, so it was offered as an elective when I was in high school. (Woot for 90+ wpm)
It's not on my 15yo's curriculum, but luckily she randomly decided to learn when she was 8, found an online typing tutor, and taught herself.
@spoonfulofhan
This! I had someone at work once say "I'm going to be lazy like Megan and take Wednesday off" and I was like WTF??? I work part time becasue I NEED a day off to recover from working two days in a row. It's not "lazy", it's exhaustion.
@TeoDamiano
@ask_aubry
Thing is, this guy comes across as an average human being. This profile isn't graphic design or stand up comedy...it's honest, modest, creative, and fun.
Women don't have high expectations - just a very basic minimum standard like "don't be a horrible person".
@julietwildeside
Wow, this is super creepy and predatory. No one is owed a follow-back. I don't follow everyone who follows me, becasue I'm disabled and I need to keep my feel simple.
@mikemwilson
This. My father told me whatever career I eventually chose, a good liberal arts degree would help me learn how to learn. Critical thinking, research, analysis, writing, etc. Best advice ever.
@aebrossbooks
This. Blocked her account. I'm all for writing community, but I have no patience for people willing to sell us out to capitalism for attention.
@theBrianaMills
My dr. is now charging a 20$ fee to renew prescriptions over the phone or via their electronic portal. The fee is waived if you come for an in-person visit. It's a policy that will hit disabled and marginalized patients the most.
@_eat_pray_lift_
Yes, becasue many of us would rather not catch an illness that could kill or permanently disable us. We would rather not spread it to our vulnerable friends and relatives. We want to protect each other.
@RevDaniel
I love (sarcasm) how just existing is "shoving it in peoples faces", like the world isn't full of images and stories about hetero-normative relationships.
Just for her, post more photos! Gloriously cute photos!
@hollyblack
I've told this story before, but I made my then 12yo daughter ugly cry so hard she had to leave the room with the big feels ending of one of my novels.
Writing win, parenting fail.
@AndreaBerthot
@RebeccaPodos
My 13yo daughter is constantly screaming at horror movies about this. "Stop! No kissing. Run first, kiss later! This is not the time!" Darn, I hope she never outgrows this level of common sense! 😅
@ironbow
The kids CBC is now interviewing. Without pointing out the fact that these kids are the one actually being indoctrinated. It breaks my heart to see kids reproducing their parents' bigotry and hate.
Hi
#WritingCommunity
. I write dark fantasy and horror, with a penchant for Northern Gothic (monsters in cottage country, anyone?). You can find my work in various magazines and anthologies, including
@CosmicHorrorMo
and Bodies full of Burning.
Mayor
@_MarkSutcliffe
is a disappointment. He won by pitting suburban drivers against urban pedestrians & cyclists & has continued that rhetoric. I don't think he cares about Ottawa at all.
Catherine McKenney was our chance for a great city & we lost it.
@ScottJCollette
This! Did Sudowrite give them a contract with all the fine print about using their work to train the AI? I highly doubt it, and in that case, Sudowrite did not provide informed consent.
@ghostcatbce
@JillFilipovic
Same with concussion and traumatic brain injury. I think I was one of the only ones in my support group who was still with their partner. Women are more likely to suffer from post-concussion syndrome, and apparently some men have trouble dealing with the changes in their spouse.
@nilikm
@OCDSB
@CBCOttawa
@ctvottawa
@OttawaCitizen
Time to sue. Very seriously. They have created a harmful, hateful, dangerous work environment & are trying to scare/harass you into quitting. Sue the ever-loving crap out of them.
@NjbBari3
My team at work are CONSTANTLY sick now. There hasn't been a day since Sept when one of my colleagues or their kids aren't sick, and usually it's back to back infections with only a few days in between.
The link - they've all had COVID.
@clairewillett
@yokatykatikate
My daughter and I went to see Birds of Prey.
When we got home, we watched Fury Road, because I wanted her to see a REAL feminist movie.
Fury Road is so beautiful and powerful. Max is the antithesis of toxic masculinity, and I love it.
@OneNerdyOpinion
It's warmth-comfort sleepy. On your chest, it's warm and they can feel your heartbeat. In the box it's lonely. That's a very young kitten...you are now replacement "mom" and they want cuddles and comfort.
@wirewalking
Yes! We were told on two separate occasions by separate relatives that once we started "making good money" we'd let go of our "leftist" views and vote conservative.
Well it's 20 years later, we're comfortable, and our politics have not changed. At least not in that direction.
@Hockeymom_84
@Scribulatora
I was overseas when Trudeau was first elected, working on a project with people from at least 15 different countries. They all cheered. They were so happy they were crying. All of them.
Trust me, Trudeau is VERY well regarded internationally.
How is he embarrassing to you?
And before anyone starts harping about civil servants, Service Ontario was outsourced to the private sector. Essentially a franchise. But yeah, tell me again how the private sector is better.
"Toronto police say the information of hundreds of drivers in the province was trafficked to suspects allegedly running an auto-theft ring involving employees at ServiceOntario."
@1goodtern
Our 16yo is probably one of the only kids in her high school still masking. She rock climbs competitively and is the only one at comps still masking. Her strength and dedication to keeping herself, her family, and others safe a daily inspiration.
@Gpete8
@JennMGreenberg
1) Lots of autistic persons are not condescending. 2) Being autistic is not a get out of jail free card for being an asshole. 3) Regardless of why he behaved the way he did, women & girls are not obliged to spend time with people who make them uncomfortable.
This is...literal insanity. People infected with chickenpox are at risk of shingles later in life. I've had shingles twice. YOU DON'T WANT IT. THE PAIN IS UNBELIEVABLE!
The alt-right politicization of disease mitigation is driving public health back into the dark ages.
Flanders, Belgium: 'Children with chickenpox can go to school from now on'.
Reason: pre-symptomatic transmission exists, so symptomatic transmission should be allowed too.
@xenonmusk
@TizzyEnt
Black-only, women-only etc. spaces are meant to create safety for marginalized populations. No one needs a "white-only" space, becasue white people, unlike marginalized groups, can move without fear through the larger public space.
THIS!
I'm disabled. My Dr told me I need to seriously consider the cost-benefit of pushing through till I can retire. Unfortunately, disability supports in Canada and Ontario are so low I can't afford to stop. I have no choice but to keep going, and hope I survive it.
Your right to be alive shouldn’t be conditional on your contribution to society. No one should ever have to prove they are “deserving” of their humanity. Whether unhoused, unemployed, or unable to work — capitalism shouldn’t get to decide whether your labour makes you human.
@ask_aubry
You can absolutely guarantee her daughter is held to higher expectations & does way more work than the boys. And is also the scapegoat for anything that goes wrong. Why even have kids, when you hate girls so much?
@ChristineRHunt
They also "froze" the prices at significantly higher than they were before. Small no-name tissues frozen at 2.59. The same box was 1.19 not so long ago.
@OttawaMorning
-insufficient space
-ergonomic requirements - do we have to bring our equipment from home every other day?
-How do we handle ergonomic requirements in a hoteling situation?
-lack of COVID protocols
-lack of any guidance on how to seek exemptions or accomodations
@TheMansquatch
@edgar_a_bitch
@Elaralara69
I had a TBI 5 years ago and now have fatigue. If I push too hard and crash, I'll be crashed for days.
And pushing myself can be as little as and extra half-hour of work, or folding a basket of laundry, or continuing a conversation.
@JortsTheCat
You're not alone, Jorts. In university, our Siamese dragged his tail through a bowl of butternut squash soup and then dragged said tail across my sweater and face. We all needed a post-soup-frolic bath.
@QuinlanQuinlan
@tomflood1
Did I say that? No. I said I'd rather share the sidewalk with cyclists than see them killed. You are trying to pit cyclists against pedestrians, which is a non-issue. The pedestrian injuries we've seen in the past few weeks have been from cars.
@danielmaycock
I got shingles twice in my mid 30s, and all I can say is that the pain was significantly worse than childbirth. Definitely worth getting the vaccine.
@dreamsofskies
I forget what it's like to have energy. I remember going for runs after work. I remember socializing without crashing. Exhaustion is so normal that I start wondering if it's all in my head, because I don't remember what it felt like to have the energy to do those things.
@UrsulaV
My husband got a warning for wearing a shirt with a pirate flag and the slogan "the beatings will continue till moral improves"...while he was acting manager in a government office (non-public facing)
Senior management was not amused. The staff, on the other hand, loved it.
@NJGeneralsUSFL
@dubidubidapat
@drunkestsocks
Or maybe disabled people know what it's like to be vulnerable and left behind by society, so they're more likely to vote in support of policies and programs that protect the vulnerable and marginalized. Like good people should.
@salamasinamusic
My colleagues with young kids just seem to have accepted it. After the 1st COVID infection, their kids have been sick non-stop...and they just...do nothing. Complain a little. Gripe about the "cold" going around. It's a bizarre form of deep denial.
Great video & 🧵
I got chickenpox as a child before the vaccine was available.
I had shingles twice in my 30s. The pain is...something else. Way above childbirth...just below migraine.
Did you know that the same virus that causes chickenpox also causes shingles? It's called the varicella zoster virus. Chickenpox is usually a milder illness that affects children, whereas shingles results from a reactivation of the virus later on in life.
@RRBigBang
@langston_120
Similarly, I told my VERY YOUNG dr. I was struggling with weight gain and fatigue despite eating the same and exercising. She told me everything was normal and that I was older now and should just get used to it.
No empathy whatsoever & now I'm reluctant to talk to her.
@maryaverling
An acquaintance asked me why I didn't just go into Chapters and ask them to sell my (currently on sub) book. Like they have a printing press in the back room.
So few people understand publishing.
