If you teach phonics in Yorkshire, you probably already have an inkling of where this is going…

shouldn’t have gone for a walk, alone, in a quiet, secluded place. Women exercising their basic rights and going for a walk are NOT the problem. Absolutely ridiculous. Praying for her safe return. ♥️
@ClaireEMcD
I go to card factory every September and buy the 10 for £1 cards x3. 30 cards for £3 and means every single child gets at least 1 birthday card a year!
Everyone in my sons swimming group today got star of the week. Everyone EXCEPT my son. Can’t decide if I’m being *THAT* parent or if that’s absolutely unacceptable. All I know is I’d never dream of giving an award to every child in my class bar one.
Honoured to have another student starting with me next week. Such a privilege to be entrusted with guiding our future teachers! Made her a lil pack to welcome her to the team, so important that students feel they belong 🥰❤️

Given this idea by my head this morning. We tried it out today and it’s slotted straight into our routine!! Chn tap the sound then say the sound as they walk past in their lines. I chose a sound the majority struggle with and will change daily!

Absolutely love this. My sister died by suicide - not this method but nonetheless. When I’ve seen things on social media recently, esp poor people jumping from road bridges, all people do is complain about the hold up. Where is the compassion? The basic humanity? You’re inspiring
Just asked my 5yo not to throw toys down the stairs. Long story short, she’s currently “packing” her clothes up because her Nan and Granddad don’t tell her off so she’s off to live with them 😳🙃🙃🙃 kids…
Was going to write a to-do list in prep for my SENDCO time tomorrow but decided to do a reverse - a “what I’ve already done list”. Amazing for my well-being to see how far I’ve come in 6 weeks 💪🏼♥️ we need to focus on what we have done rather than what’s still to do sometimes!
Read this book with my 5 year old the other day. I’ve been quite open with her in regards to money been tight. We were at the shops today and she said “I know it’s a no money day mum, I won’t ask for anything” 🥹 NEVER underestimate the power of books on our little minds.
Bought this dress over 3 years ago. It’s gathered dust ever since, I was too scared to wear it due to my size. Lost over a stone the last couple of months and am FINALLY starting to feel comfortable in my own skin so the dress made the cut for the first time today 🥹✨✨
Love this
@EnglishHeritage
👏👏 inclusivity and equity at its finest. Majority of the benches at Scarborough castle were like this meaning wheelchair users can actually sit at the table and not end up shoved at the end. Love love love!
@jon_cube
It’s heartbreaking hearing a just turned 4 year old tell me it’s because he wasn’t quick enough or good enough 🤯 I can’t get my head around it.
The absolute POWER of a visualiser and a modelling book. Incredible. For reference, this is the FIRST time my Year 1s have ever written in a maths book. Sheets stuck in by themselves. Blown away 🙌🏼🙌🏼 these tiny wins make this job the best in the world.
I’ve been putting these little notes in my daughters packed lunch. We started with little quotes - she acts like she’s not bothered but then last night she said “why don’t you do the alphabet for my notes this week?” so that’s what we’ve done! 🥰🥰
No one ever told me the thing I’d find hardest about being a parent is keeping my cool when people don’t bother with them. It hurts when it’s you but when it’s your children it’s a whole other level 🤯😳 my heart hurts for them
Heading towards the end of half term means my learning walls are full 🥹 I have so much fun creating these and its so lovely to see the children use them independently to help support their learning! Sad to take this down but excited for the next one.

*UPDATE* I didn’t expect this to blow up like it has but appreciate all the kind words. I spoke with the receptionist who said it was “out of character” but agreed unacceptable and would “look into it”. Will be following up with an email this week if I hear nothing.
At no other point in my entire life would I ever have worn this outfit. I’ve struggled with my weight and body image since I was a teenager and up until now have let that define me and the clothes I wear. Today I said NO MORE and put the shorts on and nobody cared!!!😬

A hill I will die on: displays are NOT useless, they are NOT waste of time and they are NOT for the benefit of certain inspectors… When done correctly they are an incredibly supportive tool for children and encourages them to work with increased independence.
My 4yo has been off poorly today. I say poorly… I walked into my nans to collect him and he was in a den she made him of all the sofa cushions, with a blanket, cheese sandwich, glass of milk, iPad and new teddy she got him for being “brave”. Something’s off… 🫠🤣🤣
If you don’t have a visualiser and modelling book - WHY? How I’ve managed 6 years of teaching without them is beyond me. Look at this presentation as a result 🤩🤩 autumn 1 year 1 children. INSANE.
Made the difficult call to the doctors today. Fed up of going through the motions just because I have to, being here but not actually here, on auto pilot almost. Pick up my medication this afternoon. Onwards and upwards - hopefully.
Another ✨ lil hack ✨
10 cards for £1 at card factory. Just bought 30 of them. Three quid for every child in my class to feel seen and special on their birthday - worth it a million times over.

Left school at 16:33. Home, pjs on, coffee in hand and bum on sofa by 16:47 🥰🥰 a wild start back to routine, going in to the weekend exhausted but happy ✨🙏🏼
Organised a Phonics Morning today where parents/carers came to watch a phonics session then read with their children. First event like this and parental positivity/engagement has got me so excited for the next one 🤩🤩 was a fabulous morning! Super proud.
Spent my afternoon putting an ECT survival pack together for my incredible student. I feel so lucky to be able to be part of trainees journeys, such an honour to work alongside our next generation of teachers. I hope this brings a smile to her face when she leaves next week❤️🌈
When you’re training to teach, everyone talks about the planning, the assessment, the underfunding and the workload. No one talks about how difficult it is each year to say goodbye to your class of little people.
Lil ✨ life hack ✨ for phonics teaching staff. These little folders are AMAZING. I have one for each set. Take the words out when teaching that sound, put them back when done and BAM 💥 less prep time sifting through piles of green words.

How do you manage work-life balance? I made a promise to myself when I had children I’d never be too busy for story and bedtime. These moments every single night 🥰❤️ the best.
I adopted a penguin for my class for Christmas and it finally arrived today 🥹🐧 the children were so excited as we discussed ways we need to help protect our world and it’s inhabitants! Tomorrow we will be voting for a name! Don’t tell me this isn’t the best job 🥹🥰🥰
Spent lunchtime today finishing this document that will save staff so much time trailing through handbooks/lesson plans for hold a sentence! A lunchtime well spent I’d say - every hold a sentence here from red ditty all the way to grey! 🥳

UPDATE: my student GOT THE JOB 🎉🎉🎉 I am absolutely over the moon for her. She deserves it so much and I am so proud of her! Gutted there isn’t a job here for her but what an asset she will be to her new school - they are very lucky! ✨✨

My incredible HLTA brought me some lunch in today. She had stuffed peppers for tea and knows I love them so saved me one, with some potatoes her granddaughter had grown. I can’t tell you how much this made my day. Little things are never just little. 🥹❤️❤️❤️
Another learning journey completed. This is the first time I’ve taught “toys” and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it - as have the children 🧸

This is it! There were 4 in the group. 3 got sent up to the star for their clap and L had to stay in the pool 😭 either 1 person or all of them surely?
I hate having an overly anxious mind because I read far too much into things that are probably nothing but end up worrying I’ve done something wrong and my head immediately goes to worst case scenario 🤯
When you’re in the midst of teaching and worrying about where the children need to be, it can be hard to step back and look at the bigger picture. This progress from September until now - wow. Absolutely blown me away🥰🥰
Actual footage of me trying to juggle 2 young children, the house work, make healthy meals, remember to eat, do data drops, fill in paperwork, phone parents, drink enough water, reply to my friends, keep on top of my planning, reply to my emails, work the printer… WOW 🧐🤯🤯🤯
Led my first whole school assembly today and spent the majority of my time trying to avoid eye contact with the adults 🤯👀 room of 300 children? No problem. Chuck a few adults in and I crumble 😳🥹
Me at the start of the hols: so glad I haven’t made any plans, I want to just chill.
Me today: why don’t I steam off my wallpaper, remove my skirting boards and redecorate my living room with two kids in tow?
Why. Am. I. Like. This 🤯🫠🫠
I had spent time in the summer creating phonics packs for staff so whatever book they were teaching, they could grab and go. No prep, no stress - everything was there. We had nowhere to store them so this is the before… Messy and uninviting in the corridor… (1/3)
Almost 20 years, yet I remember the events of the day as if it was yesterday. Always blows my mind that the line between their birth and death represents their lives. Such little time here, yet the biggest mark on the hearts of all who knew them. ♥️
A child brought me in this. I spoke to parents to show my appreciation. Turns out it was all the child who decided she wanted to get me this to say thanks and asked grandparents to take her for it last night 🥹❤️ made my day, incredible.
Was on a fab course today that finished a little early. I was going to have an early finish but decided to go back to school and update my displays from lessons taught this week and I’m so glad I did 🥰 going into the weekend feeling prepared!

This time of year I always see lots of negativity about report writing. I’m here to change that narrative. I cannot WAIT for the adults of my children to read their reports, beaming with pride just like I am whilst writing them. I want every adult to know I know their child..
Year 1 is a HARD year to teach, such a huge step up from EYFS. It’s also, in my opinion, the most rewarding and the one where you see the most progress from autumn to summer. Look at this in just 3 days 🥹🥹 work to do, yes, but what wonderful progress already!

Mum hack: invest in one of these larger divider plates. On those days you have to stay home, fill it with snacks and tell kids you’re having a picnic at home. My two LOVE it and I get to drink my tea in peace. Win win!
That time when we get to the end of a half term and I have separation anxiety from my displays 🤯🤣 we have LOVED this geography topic but I do have a sneaky feeling we will enjoy our next one even more! 🗺️

On a positive note, these holidays I became an auntie 🥹🥰🥰🥰 the most precious, dinky little dot who I cannot wait to shower with love for the rest of my life ❤️
Same task, same outcome, same knowledge - different adaptions and scaffolds to enable that to happen. Followed by quality modelling, we reduced cognitive overload by: printing sentence stems out for some, sticking the sentences in for others, providing key vocabulary for all.
Well… this was scary 😳 saying goodbye to my beloved history leadership but hello to becoming SENDCO. Telling myself to be kind - I’ve been in my new role for six hours. Rome wasn’t built in a day, or something…
Said it before, I’ll never stop saying it. The correct use of a visualiser has changed the presentation in my class in ways I cannot describe. Providing models and examples that are modelled live for the children results in a high success rate and work like THIS ✨✨✨
I am beyond excited for my babes to wake up in the morning. All I ever wanted was this, to be a mum and have a reason and goodness me do they give me that 🎅🏽♥️✨🎄 so special having littles at Christmas time.
My son starts nursery school tomorrow. Built myself up all day to ask for a bit of time to take him. Needn’t have worried - it was an instant yes without the explanation I’d prepared. Let’s normalise schools doing this. We can’t be our best if we resent our job! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
If you’re not using dual-coding and icons to support with recall… why not? This will support the children so much in their retelling of the Creation Story this week and again when we revisit in weeks and months to come. I can’t wait to see it in action! 💫
One of my fave moments from today is walking a child down the corridor to do her PSC and I said “we’ve got this, we’re so ready” and she said “I was literally born ready” 😭🥹 the swagger down that corridor has absolutely made my day.
Well what better way to end a Thursday than to find out I am officially a HOME OWNER 🏡 ♥️ brought up in council houses, thinking it would never happen for someone like “me” - especially in todays climate. I’ve done it and can’t wait to make memories with my babes 🥰
We CARE. Your children are our children. We want the best for them, just like you do. We go above and beyond for them, just like you do. We worry about them at night, just like you do. It’s a hard job, but I am so incredibly proud to be a teacher ♥️🌈

My Nan and Granddad are two of the best people in my life. They knew I was teaching “toys” in history so have been snooping the charity shops for old toys 🥹 they’ve just dropped this off. They are so wonderful I can’t even put it into words.
Representation MATTERS. It’s about the kid in your class who has to visit the food bank on a weekly basis. The kid who has two mums but doesn’t talk about it because it’s STILL an issue in society. Windows and mirrors…Lucky to work in a school and Trust that promotes this!
Another half term, another learning journey completed. The children have LOVED our plants topic in science 🌱 🌸 🌳 it has been so lovely to see their enthusiasm and genuine love of learning!

I absolutely don’t expect any of my children to be handed anything on a plate. But he turned 4 last week. He isn’t thinking “I’ll show them next week”. He’s thinking “I wasn’t fast enough today mum” 🤯

Don’t know about anyone else but if my kitchen is clean then everywhere is clean. Doesn’t matter that a literal whirlwind has infiltrated the rest of my house. If my kitchen is clean the rest of the house doesn’t exist x

Classroom as ready as it will ever be. Can’t wait to see those seats filled with my new children 🥰❤️ year of learning, love, laughs and memories awaits.
But yesterday we had the best delivery - our Kallax units 🥹😍😍 so this is this after… everything in its place for ease for staff, nice and tidy for our children. I am over the moon with this 🤩📕 x2 units to fit all the book packs in them and it looks BEAUTIFUL! (2/3)
Becoming SENDCO has been a baptism of fire and I have a new found respect for all doing the role. This week, after weeks of hard work gathering evidence and liaising with professionals, I had my first EHCP agreed 🥹 very proud moment, so glad the child will get what they need❤️
So many tiny things we can do to challenge stereotypes - a picture of a Black male nurse instead of a stereotypical White female nurse. If chn are exposed to this in such effortless, discrete ways it can only be a positive thing 💪🏼🌈
My AMAZING student leaves us today 😭🥹 what a privilege it has been to support her and watch her grow from a student to a fully fledged teacher! I made her a little ECT survival pack - can’t wait to hear how it goes 🥰🥰
Over the last few weeks we have been compiling our autumn book nook as a class, collecting the right books and coming up with key vocabulary together that represent the words that come to the chn’s minds when they think of autumn. Obsessed with this 🍂🌰🥰
Alan Turing… a thread.
This is Alan. Alan ended his own life. He laced an apple with cyanide and ate it. He did this because the British government chemically castrated him for being gay. Some believe he is the reason why a chunk is bitten out of the Apple logo…

My daughter is obsessed with these books. We have them on display at our school (she attends where I teach) and whenever she gets a reward for something she chooses one of these so she can “build her collection like schools” 🥰

Does anyone else struggle a bit with the unstructure of hols? I feel like I itch in my seat if I have nothing to do. So used to being on the hamster wheel at a million miles a min, I really struggle when I’m allowed to run on my own schedule 🤣🤯🤯
We are now September ready! Super excited to welcome 30 new children into this classroom in 5 weeks time - blank canvas ready for more learning, memories, love and laughs 🥰
Is anyone else itching to have a massive deep clean 🤯 the mess is causing absolute chaos with my mind I can think of nothing else! But don’t want to detract from the magic of it for the kiddies! 😳
Well, this is an unexpected (but totally expected cos I ordered every single one) parcel of absolute goodness to come home to on a Friday ❤️❤️❤️ I’m thinking “the teacher” first! Happy Friday to me 🌟🤩
Cannot wait to get these out tomorrow. Bedtime book boxes 📦 📕 🌙 I hope the children and their adults love them as much as I do!
