These kinds of posts always show a misunderstanding of how few spots there are available at these schools and how many 10s of thousands of applicants there are with comparable credentials.

Imagine Boeing fired everyone who built and sold airplanes, and people said, "those people must have been useless since planes aren't crashing yet"

Median is the right measure for lots of things - like, for example, household income. The average would be much higher and thus more misleading.
Spoke to some colleagues in Berlin and Barcelona this week. Their lives are normal: restaurants, bars, shops, theaters, schools (with some restrictions) are all open. This is true in much of the world.
I'm not sure that most Americans really understand this.

I’m part of an HOA, and I’m shocked how the owners shriek every time they are asked to spend a dollar, even if it’s only to maintain existing infrastructure.

You could certainly add more resolution if the question you are asking required it - for example income by decile or quartile instead of midpoint.
@EricTrump
Alright - so you aren't going to even bother to argue that your dad is innocent, but instead to claim his impeachment doesn't make good TV. OK, that's one way to go...

Imagine you live in a place with zero natural beauty with terrible weather 10 months a year.
The other 2 months you want to find the least sucky place around and spend a fortune to spend time there.
And even your best day there is worse than an average day in California.

People under 70:
- Can die or be permanently disabled by the virus.
- Can spend days in the hospital.
- Can kill other people by passing it on.

Kids who are too young to understand?
Kids who have emotional or developmental problems?
Kids who have high sensitivity to noise or stimulus?
Parents looking after someone else's child because the child's parents are in crisis?

The measure of a company isn’t whether they keep a site running - it’s whether they developing new products, signing up new customers, growing revenue, expanding to new markets, etc. Although I do agree with the general point that they were way overstaffed.
@Carnage4Life
If this were greed it would at least make sense, but he drives down the value of the company every time he makes a decision like this. The good news is they’ll reverse it by next week
"If you can't measure it, you can't manage it" is one of those quotes that sounds correct the first time you hear it. Then one day you realize it's completely wrong.

Although I love me some Trump bashing, over 30 athletes have accepted this medal under previous administrations, as well as many actors, musicians, and even CEOs.
I keep hearing that “techies are destroying San Francisco,” but I’m fairly certain that the loud, drunk frat boys and party girls currently puking green St. Patrick's Day liquor on Union Street are not data scientists.
@realDonaldTrump
Within a month of the election you were taking credit for the strong economy, but after 20 months in office and controlling all branches of government, including all of the relevant enforcement agencies, you are suddenly *not* responsible for immigration?
@OrinKerr
To him, you’re either pro-Trump or anti-Trump.
If you are anti-Trump, it can never be out of a larger principle or the rule of law.
Its never a difference of opinion. It’s always out of personal animosity, and you always deserve scorn.

Bay Area reactions to the college scandal:
“Why not just donate directly to the school like normal people?”
“I know half those people.”
“That shit starts in kindergarten around here.”
Once we have a COVID-19 vaccine, a large % of the U.S. population will refuse to take it since they believe all kinds of conspiracy nonsense.
The ensuing shitshow is going to put all of today's shitshows to shame.

Throw a picnic on the lawn for 10,000 military families. Corporate sponsors would cover most of it, and it would celebrate and honor our soldiers in a way they'd actually appreciate.

Why get mad at the US government specifically? Why not get mad at the German government or the Chinese government or the Peruvian government?
Overhead: "San Francisco is doing great other than a few neighborhoods. Just avoid the Tenderloin, Union Square, SOMA, Financial District, Fisherman's Wharf, Van Ness, Civic Center. . . . . ."

Mueller is not investigating Republicans. He’s investigating anyone who may have committed a crime, including Democrats, Independents, Russians, etc.
Don't plan your career assuming that AI's flaws (like not being good at drawing hands) are persistent.
The flaw could be fixed a month from now.
And once it's fixed, it's fixed FOREVER.

Lack of time.
Lack of the right skills.
Lack of a team.
Lack of an idea.

Hard work.
High failure rate.
Kind of amazing that anyone does, really.

Yup, he got someone to pay 3x what the company was worth: amazing outcome for shareholders. Now someone else can clean up the mess.
Too bad that ship didn’t get stuck in San Francisco. Every single flatscreen TV, bicycle, and pharmaceutical in those containers would be stolen by now, and the empty ship could just bob away.
“The rich keep getting richer” is largely explained by compound interest, which Albert Einstein correctly described as, “the eighth wonder of the world.”
