@FL1NTZ @JayWood2010 @bdsams It’s going to overtake ps4. That’s almost guaranteed at this point. PS4 was on sale by year 3 at a reduced price. Pro was out a year earlier than this gen. So it’s not like for like. Ps5 is the most profitable ps gen, so I don’t think they’re complaining.

@Expat_Matt @oliver_drk @Nick_Marseil Bend skipped the entire ps3 gen and only released days gone in ps4 gen. Is likely to skip all of ps5 gen too. Again a miss. It comes in cycles but that’s the norm in AAA development

@Expat_Matt @oliver_drk @Nick_Marseil On the flip side insomniac, housemarque, Santa Monica are on their game for a much better gen that last gen. Only Santa Monica game last gen was god of war 2018. We got Ragnarok and will likely get 2 more games (second studio) before gen ends.

@DaveP2611 @kjngamer Means 4m new customers added in the holiday quarter. And 5.5m that chose to stay in the ecosystem and upgrade to new hardware (ps5 or ps5 pro).

@XboxSho1986 @MM2K @DeekeTweak Highly doubtful. How can Xbox have more profit than ps when they make $8B less annually and have double the operating costs on first party studios (22k employees vs 11k). That’s your biggest cost, labor for game development. There’s a reason Xbox doesn’t disclose profit.

@DeekeTweak Profit margins don’t really have a trend here though. They highly fluctuate just on the nature of the business. As soon as a first party game releases it’s a huge boost in profit for ps. Holiday qtr didn’t really have that which has why you see a dip.

@MikaDima1 @astaranx Even those statements are misleading. Xbox can manipulate their financials as they incorporate the Xbox division in the more computing division. If you just compare like for like, hardware, services, labor in first party it’s not impossible that Xbox is even profitable.

@astaranx And this is holiday quarter profit without releasing any big first party games. Previous quarter ps made $1B (when Astrobot released) and profit margin was 11%. Either way ps continues to make money and gain market share. Can’t say the same for Xbox.

@chaosprimeZ @Septic_Sauce The damage control was trying to paint the Xbox numbers as an industry problem: gaming revenue -7%, hardware -29%, content and services 2%. What’s the damage control for ps.

@enigma_57 @Zuby_Tech @DeekeTweak Take 2 numbers also lines up with this. Said 94m shipped by end of November 2024. Ps sold around 4-5m units in December so you can assume 70m in November 2024. Again leaving Xbox with 24-25m.

@FL1NTZ @JayWood2010 @bdsams Down by 2% overall. Like for like, ps4 pro launched a year earlier than ps5 pro. Ps5 has not seen a price drop ye. Like for like I would say that’s essentially in line with ps4.

@RealGamer27 @RGamerB_ Xbox revenue has only grown through acquisition of software publishers. But there’s cost to that too. Xbox makes 8B less than ps but has double the operating cost in first party studios almost 22k employees vs 11k.

@AsbjornSynfan @giuntacateno @bdsams Yup but that’s how Xbox inflates their numbers. They count everyone playing their game once as a MAU even on other platforms. Which is not wrong but can’t be compared to how MAU is measured on ps and Nintendo side. PS and Nintendo report on high value MAUs.
